What Mr. Englestad would have done is mere speculation. Maybe the Sicatoka is right. Maybe not. It doesn't really matter. Preventing further damage to UND and continue playing in the NCAA is what matters now. What is in the best interest of the athletic department of the school and the school itself is what is important to me. The vast majority of us on this website are stakeholders in one way, shape or form. My stake is my loyalty to the school where I received my undergraduate degree. I believe it is in the best interest of the school and the athletic department to choose a new name and move on. Not choosing a name, leaving it at "North Dakota" creates another distraction that has the potential for further litigation by the NCAA. I am not saying that it will lead to further litigation, but it does put UND in a potentially actionable position. Weighing the pros and cons of this leads me to believe it isn't worth the risk. So, IMHO, it's time to move on and choose a name. To leave it at "North Dakota" has the potential to further damage the school and the athletic department. Why risk it? It's not worth it. Let's put this to rest once and for all.

I'm with you on that. But, I think it would end up being shortened by slang to "Nokes" for all practical purposes.

Naw, this is the one I was thinking of: I could live with that. Let's go Nokes! Let's go Nokes! Hey, nothing will ever replace Fighting Sioux, but this isn't too bad. Just my $.02 as a member of the unofficial committee set up by the Sicatoka!

I like it because it has prior tradition and is representative of the state. I prefer Roughriders. Charging Nakotas is one I am warming up to. If we could use that logo somebody brought up earlier with the Nakotas, that would be a good selling point.

I wouldn't mind Flickertails. There/they're/their is history and tradition with that name. I doubt it would happen though.

hmmm.. ermines is dead. But, that list also killed Rough Riders and RoughRiders. None and No Nickname also died according to that list... Screaming Weasels still has a chance!

Why, you are correct. Their is a high school over their. You know, their in Grand Forks. Roughrider High School is their, where there name should be left alone over their. Their you go.

Not me. I want the Screaming Weasels. Not erniemine or whatever the heck that is. But Roughriders is fine too.

A lot of those schools are not regionally accredited, which automatically denies them membership in the NCAA.

UND undergraduate degree...U of Wyo for my masters. And I have tons of Fighting Sioux gear. But enough is enough. I'll wear my gear whenever I feel like it, but it is time to let a new generation have their nickname. To deny them is just being selfish and pigheaded. (Maybe we can be called the pigheads?)

Not wanting a nickname reminds me of some little brat angry that they didn't get the sprinkles on the ice cream they wanted, so they lay on the floor kicking and screaming for attention. Time for some "fans" to grow up.
