  1. Good question. Did North Dakota take it from them? Or did they take it from us? That insignia was also used by a North Dakota combat unit in the US/Philippine war, which was part of the Spanish American war. That insignia was adopted by the state of North Dakota in 1911. It's purpose was to honor the North Dakota combat unit that used the same insignia as the Roughriders. I would imagine they took it from the Roughriders then the state took it from that North Dakota combat unit. Really, it doesn't matter. It is the same. Because, North Dakotans wanted it to be the same. Go Ridas!
  2. Well, with the exception that the insignia/logo or whatever looks exactly the same, you are correct, sir! Oh, denial ain't just a river in Egypt.
  3. And their battle flag emblem is our state flag emblem. Yet, North Dakota has no official relationship with the Roughriders? (It's embarrassing to think some of these people arguing for North Dakota only and not the Roughriders because they supposedly have no affiliation to ND went to UND...)
  4. Great idea! Oh, wait...I got the battle flag of the Roughriders confused with the North Dakota state flag here! My bad. Go Ridas!
  5. Are you kidding? Staying North Dakota will not eliminate problems with taunts. People are pretty darned clever, they'll find something. And by not having a nickname, that alone will induce ridicule. Plus, that bonus with reminaing just North Dakota is...you effectively remain...the de facto....Fighting Sioux. Here, I will admit it's a grey area. We don't know what the implications would be. Why take that chance? Go Ridas!
  6. Here is the new logo design: naw.... Go Ridas!
  7. Ditto here. Although I am a progressive, I am happy to call myself...dare I say it... a LIBERAL! And I hate Sundogs and support the name Roughriders just as I have supported the name Fighting Sioux. Go Ridas!
  8. Wow. Sounds like you think certain people just got uppity in the 60's...
  9. I'll never forget the run n gun show of the 70s with Reggie Theus. If there was a three point shot they would have easily beat the Tarheels and then won it all.
  10. That woulda been pretty cool.

    Denver

Ft Collins/Loveland have the best craft breweries around the state IMHO.
  12. Private land is different. Public land ..get rid of all confederate flags. They can take that traitorous heritage and stick it in a museum where it belongs. They lost. Time to put that crap where it belongs.
  13. I don't agree that it should change either. However, I do agree with getting rid of all imagery of the Confederate battle flag on public grounds. To me, it goes beyond the racist significance. Why celebrate the history of traitors to the United States of America?
  14. I agree. He was such a competitor and drove us nuts. But I loved the way he would stick it to the NCAA by constantly referring to UND as the Sioux.
  15. Wisconsin would be lucky to have him. I wish he'd take over the Avs, but it'll take a couple of more crap years before Roy gets the boot.
  16. That would look good with a nice logo and UND above it!
  17. Fair point. I prefer to move on. Even without the NCAA, there will be calls to take away all Native American names and imagery. Ironically, it was really Teddy Roosevelt who started the NCAA.
  18. Exactly. Even if I would hear from the NCAA that it was okay, I don't trust them. They could tell me that the sky was blue and I'd go outside and look for myself. We don't want sanctions. If we don't comply with a nickname may end up on double-secret probation. Then, we'll have a toga party. Because it won't matter what we do...we're going to get caught.

    The Truth

Good point. I remember at my undergrad graduation the booing of members of the Sioux tribe getting their degrees from the Chippewas and vise-versa. Not exactly a love fest between the tribes.

    The Truth

Oddly, the Native American Studies programs at UND we're very good, while the outreach to the tribes in the state was horrible. A huge failure om the administration's part. It probably was the underlying reason the Fighting Sioux name is gone.
  21. Competition too. New and better options.
