  1. Good question. I think there would be an argument against counting those votes because they would include non-tribal members living in that area. But, I would be curious to see when Chewey and the others think.
  2. Over 17,000 signatures. Looks like it's the Fighting Sioux...again. Time to change my avatar...again. (It's groundhog day...again) http://www.inforum.c...icle/id/350054/
  3. Appears so.. It just keeps getting weirder and weirder. What did Hunter S. Thompson say? Oh yeah, "When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro."
  4. Heck, they didn't even have to drop their name and bring it back and drop it again and on and on and on... http://www.hometeamsonline.com/teams/default.asp?s=hockey&t=c&u=SOUTHSHOREMENSHOCKEY
  5. Well, it makes a bigger difference in North Dakota (4.8% Native American) than Florida (0.4% Native American). But, you might be right in the fact that even strong Republican politicians in North Dakota never made much of a fuss over losing the name. http://www.census.gov/population/estimates/state/rank/aiea.txt
  6. I wonder if that group of congressmen, Democrats all, misjudged the support of Native Americans on this issue? Let's face it, as a politician, they probably saw the strong Democratic tribal support as critical to them and may have figured that the tribes were very opposed to the nickname, thus, allowing that name to be thrown under the bus. (I, myself am a Democrat and am just thinking about the political angle here.) They may have errored greatly in that decision.

  8. It seems to me if they are saying that they are 1000 signatures short of what is necessary at this stage of the game they are either: A. Horrible at petition drives. or B. Running into people in the state of North Dakota who understand what is at stake and are avoiding putting their signature on the petition. Either way, 1000 short is more like 3 or 4000 short. They'll need much more than the number necessary to get over challenges to the names put on those petitions.
  9. never mind...got it.. http://www.inforum.com/event/article/id/349472/group/News/
  10. I am a bit confused. How many signatures are needed and how many do they have?
  11. I actually get the daily big city paper delivered for about $4.50 a month. To me, that's just giving it away, and I still like to read a paper. But, I peruse the websites too to get updated information. Trust me, if that price went above $5 a month, I'd drop it! The GF Herald drives me nuts with their log in to use it function. I ignore it for the most part. All I want to read about is UND sports and between this site, uscho, undsports.com, I'm fine.
  12. Forgot about slackerradio! Got a new laptop and forgot to bookmark it! Cable systems that embraced internet services were smart, smart, smart. I wonder if newspapers who set up websites will survive. The paper version is doomed.
  13. That too is going to vanish soon. I don't like it, but it is reality. You see, reality is something that adults have to face.
  14. But, there is no such thing as Sioux hockey anymore! So, they wouldn't find it in any form. Well, except through rebroadcasts through online streaming!
  15. Good points. I am in your age range also. I also stream video and have an extremely cheap cable package from my internet provider. But, I have a digital TV antenna and am ready to cut the cord on my $18 a month cable. Heck, my TV picks up up over 35 digital channels over the air now! As far as quality goes, streaming will improve dramatically. The problem will be bandwidth. But, even that might not be a big problem. I just got a letter from some broadband carrier that bought out my cable provider. Bad news, my internet is going up $2.50 a month. Wait...GOOD NEWS! I will now go from a 12 meg download speed to anywhere from 30-40 meg for the same price. Hey, ain't technology grand!
  16. Who cares about people over 55 who are set in their ways? Basic marketing principles say go after the younger market, the 18-35 year olds who haven't established their spending trends. That is where the real discretionary spending is located.
  17. Here is something to ponder in respect to online delivery. Not only does it work, but it works in larger numbers than you would think... http://blogs.reuters.com/felix-salmon/2012/01/23/udacity-and-the-future-of-online-universities/
  18. Well, it's a change thing. People / Organizations are sometimes aren't as quick to adopt change. Plus, there is a fear that something different may even take the place of something like online streaming. (Anybody got an old Betamax machine in their attic?) I was back in Nodak this past summer and set up my 82 year old mom up with her first HD television. Now, she can read what's on the TV again and absolutely loves it. But, my brother and I had to program it to work almost like the old TV, or she wouldn't go for it.
  19. I understand that many people haven't embraced this technology. But, I guarantee that educated folks 30 and under ALL know how to do this. Heck, I just run an HDMI cable to my TV system from my laptop and get the games that way. It won't take that long. I would say just a few short years and we'll see the shift from cable TV to live online streaming.
  20. That's the way I watch the home games. It's not bad, but I am jonesin' for some HD! Getting greedy in my old age!
  21. It looks like a good recruiting class. Not a clue how it stacks up against SU or the conference rivals. I'm sure some ranking system will come out. I remember the UNC game this year in Greeley. A friend came with, a grad of UNC and we both enjoyed it tremendously. My first FCS game after watching the Sioux for many years in D-II. We both agreed that even though these weren't top 10 FCS teams, the level between the football we saw and the football we saw when they were in the NCC was much improved. Even though it's not FBS football, this should be a fun ride in the Big Sky!
  22. I think whatever embarrasses the NCAA is good enough for me. Although I am an ACLU member, I also am a member of the NRA. I'm a Bill of Rights kinda guy.
  23. Bingo. As a card carrying member of the ACLU and a nickname supporter (although, I only see the issue resolved through the courts with the SL tribe) I don't understand why those on the extreme left and right feel this is an entirely political issue. Granted, I would say most of the opponents lean left and many supporters lean right, it's not a straight left wing/right wing issue. Also, Chewey, have you changed your mind and decided now that we have to strike while the iron is hot against the NCAA? Or has that been your opinion for awhile? Just wondering.
  24. Well, I guess that boy won't have to worry about that again, eh?
