Yes. He is a great spokesman for college hockey and is a genuinely good guy. He's not a good announcer, but neither was Barry Melrose. He's way more likeable than Barry Melrose.

I agree with this 100%. I don't know if Smaby is the best guy or not, but he's from Minneapolis, played at SSM, and is coaching in the USHL (plus he played in Europe). We do need some US connections because the US kids are really good. Look at how many USNDT players get drafted in the 1st round. Those are the kids that Michigan, BC, BU and UM have been getting.

I don't know where you are going with this, but Tarek Howard is about as good of a person as you will ever meet. He's a class act and very ethical.

I'm not sure I agree. Hunter Johannes was at UND only 1 year and appears to bleed green. I suspect that there are others.

I have never been opposed to the portal. UND has grabbed some very good and impactful players out of the portal--Connor Ford, Zmolek, Pyke, Chris Jandric, Ashton Calder, Driscoll, TJ to name a few.

Playing Devil's Advocate, but the decision to not bring in Scott Morrow backfired, as did the decision to not bring in Rizzo, who after sitting for a year, flipped his commitment to DU. There were some who thought Oshie wasn't ready at 18 and straight out of HS and I shudder to think about what would have happened if he decommitted.

Western Michigan did it successfully. 6 players from the portal and 2 flipped commitments from Hampton and Bump.
