I think what Darell is saying is that NDSU sees UND as their only threat. Lets say UND gets hammered in Fargo this year and then SU goes on to lose the FCS title game. Next year NDSU is down a little and UND is on the rise and UND wins a barnburner "upset" in Grand Forks. In just two seasons the whole paradigm and perception of things changes. That's what NDSU does not want to happen.
Should be a fun one this year! I'm picking Red River, Minot, Century, and Grafton to win their first round games. With the exception of the RR game, all the first round games should be pretty competitive (of course Jamestown's goalie can stand on his head...).
Its a good schedule no doubt based on how good the teams are. But there is no exciting, bring the house down types of match ups. A #3 ranked Miami still wont generate the same excitement as as an unranked Minnesota.
Yeah, the Frozen Four championship game has about the same number of people in attendance generally (~20,000) and quite a bit higher TV ratings on average from what I've been able to find.
It could be argued that UND and NDSU have been very reliable partners. Afterall, they play in every sport except football. Neither school has ever bought out a contract with the other with the exception of NDSU and a baseball game. This is absurd that NDSU fans think UND is a bad business partner. NDSU's AD has signed deals to play UND in almost every sport, and UND has never bought out a contract.
So some thoughts.... Perhaps UMKC moved to the WAC with inside knowledge that the Summit is going collapse. It appears that Creighton will not be leaving the MVC. WashingtonPost
Now if that happens, there will be no going to the MVC for the xDSUs. Perhaps Taylor's words aimed at the BigSky and the commissioner are not so much a result of MSU backing out, but rather a result of the BigSky turning down NDSU recently...
Who knows... Just some thoughts. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out.
