If I am recalling correctly, there was a set of criteria that had to be met for names that got forwarded to the voting phase. One of the criteria was that it had to be unique to North Dakota. Had they followed the criteria, Hawks would have never made it. For my part, I still advocate for Northern Pike. It is the state fish. There are no major college teams with a fish as a mascot or logo. It is easily shortened to "Northerns" or "Pike". The logo opportunities are excellent. Etc. I see NDSU is offering 3 game mini plans for football tickets. I wish UND would offer something creative. Also, you can get tickets for the UND game in Fargo for $45 plus $6 in fees. Quite a bit more reasonable on the fees.

I like the NDSU game being the last game of the season in 2026. I hope that becomes the new normal both in Grand Forks and in Fargo.

I would love hockey to be done by Memorial Day. Today is the longest day of the year and tomorrow we start loosing light. Pierre Lebrun had a nice column in the Athletic on this matter, but I am sure it will fall on deaf ears.
