God, don't tell me you have a degree from UND. Then again, maybe you got a degree from CAS which might explain your short-bus screeds. Anyway, what are some of the tangible benefits to UND and its student-athletes if UND was forced to keep the Sioux moniker? The sanctions have already shown some detrimental. tangible effects, and more will show themselves over time. So, maybe you and the other Stooges can lay out some of the tangible "postives", and don't rest on "it's the right thing to do" like it's a toilet.

I'd have a bit more respect for them if they had actually discussed the matter with Kupchella in 2005 or so. As far as I'm concerned, their opinion is about as meaningful as the rest of the "save the name" crowd. >>> They have no skin in the game at UND.

Does the truth hurt, Dave?

It's not as if it's your money, so stop whining.

Whatever "credibility" you think you have was just flushed down the toilet. And if your involvement in this issue only goes back to "before the Spirit Lake vote", whatever that means, you've shown yourself to be ignorant as well, which is par for the course.

Oregon Board of Education votes to ban Native American mascots

Don't give the NC$$ any more ideas ... -
Is it on You Tube yet? I can't access the site from work.

The fact some 'su fan is voting "No" solely to take a shot at UND should be evidence enough of the damage to UND from the NC$$ sanctions for some of these "Save the Name" knuckleheads. They obviously grasp the ramifications of the vote for UND, so I fail to understand why certain ostensible alums and "friends" of UND do not. Then again, I'd rather UND take a shot from our enemies to the south than fair weather fans of a moniker.

Davey craves the attention on this board he doesn't get anywhere else? -
They seem to be too stupid or too lazy to actually learn the history of this issue, which is pretty well documented from the earliest threads on this forum. Then again, they probably have the same limits in other aspects of their lives, and WalMart does need people to get the shopping carts ... so I guess it all works out.

Didn't Minnesota do something similar a few years ago? -
Kennedy wasn't the "saint" so many try to portray him as, even today, like most politicians. I recall reading a history of CIA which noted that "if they [JFK and RFK] had not been assassinated, they would have been indicted." The "politics", regardless of how you try to ignore them, of this issue are damaging to UND, regardless of the stupidity and hypocrisy of the NC$$ policy.
-
"Democracy", in whatever form, is of little import to the NC$$, or its member schools.
-
You do realize that SL leadership initially told Kupchella that the name wasn't their concern. The fact they now have leaders willing to take up the issue is irrelevant to the NC$$ and the courts. Moreover, SR's leadership, rightly or wrongly, has effectively prevented UND from using the Sioux moniker from day one by either openly disputing its use or preventing its people from voting on the issue. They're a sovereign nation, so "white man's laws don't apply". The issue has taken its course through litigation and legislation, and UND will suffer if it persists in its current state. Not sure why so many don't see that ...

Anybody trying to equate this issue with war, genocide, murder or whatever really needs to brush up on their history,or take a tour of Cambodia or Angola.

Part of the problem is, and will be, that the transients have little vested interest in the long-term prospects for these places. Therefore, they'll continue to trash and overuse local resources, and the long-term residents around the state will be left holding the bag. When somebody refers to this as a "gold rush", they may want to see what's resulted after the "gold" runs out from past rushes, and there's no economic diversity to support the bust.

At some point the NC$$'s own policy will come under wider attack for the exceptions it created, and the hypocrisy it maintains. I've perused a number of law review articles that effectively advocate removing the consent provision since it's unfair to the tribes, since they have been effectively been brow beaten into giving consent by the federal government's treatment of NAs over the years. Yeah, stupid and twisted "logic", but that kind of argument can carry the day in Indy.

Sure, and the guys talking about a housing bubble didn't make as much those who kept their mouths shut and shorted it. Here you have a finite resource being tapped by a growing number of companies picking the "low hanging fruit" before the easy money is gone and the peak wanes, and fracking becomes a bigger political and a health issue. California and Alaska's peak production has fallen, as North Dakota's has increased so the leap was bound to happen. But don't break out the Bud Light yet. At some point, the economics will, once again, tilt against North Dakota's oil boom. In a year or three the CDS spreads on bonds issued by the state and various local governments may be worth a play.

That's what they said about real estate a few years ago too.
