I was going to ask the same thing jk with regard to the recent drought in scoring. It seems like we're getting good opportunities, but are just missing the mark. Running into a couple of strong goaltenders recently doesn't help. I think that if the boys keep grinding and make their plays, the points will follow. Generally, I'm pretty pleased by the team's overall effort and cohesion compared to last season. I'd love to see more offensive production, but I'll take 2 pts anyway we can.

UPB, welcome to the "other" board. I like POI, and appreciate that you and Sal run it very well, and keep the bomb throwing to a minimum. As well, it's nice to allow a few Sioux fans to bring reason and lucidity to the discussions.

Taz, I believe Jethro's animosity is derived from the fact that he's upset that UND's dating scene doesn't revolve around farm animals, so he went to the "target rich environment" at 'SU. Besides playing with a thesarus, I think Jethro needs to buy a book on writing style, as well as a dictionary. FWIW: There was a big Indian, not "Native American", protest in Mpls yesterday covered by the Strib concerning crime, health services and related matters in the local community. Looking at the pics this morning, I didn't see one sign complaining about UND's nickname, even though the protest was led by Clyde Bellecourt, Vernon's brother. I also didn't see the name "Native American" but "Indian" was pretty common. Maybe the people that need the "protection" of the name change crowd have more important concerns than soothing white, liberal guilt.
-
Is anybody but me, perhaps, surprised that the only people who really push the nickname issue reside in academia? They tend to see themselves as "tolerant", "diverse", and/or "sensitive". However, they routinely berate, threaten, insult or demean those who disagree with them. Add in the "racist", or whatever "ist", label and you have the complete package of myopic intolerance. It's probably no wonder most of these people can't exist in the "real world" outside of their ivy covered walls.

Herb Brooks bleeds Kelly Green and White!!!!
-
So if the SU student senators and some admins are so against the Sioux name, does this mean they can't play Notre Dame, Florida State or Illinois when they make their "splash" in D1? Not that they ever will in this lifetime.
-
I suppose when your school is replete with losers, you can leave the conference, head to another division or decide to not use the nickname of your closest rival. When do these idiots head to D1 obscurity again?

I have few heroes, but Jim Archibald is one. A tough, physical forward who wasn't afraid of the puck. I see glimmers of him in Mike Prpich, and I'd expect that to become more apparent over time. I have $5 that says Archie tries to beat up Wisco's bench again, and maybe their fans too, just for old time, blood on the ice, sake.

I love the UND-Wisco battles like no other, as they have a history dear to us who have been around beyond the past Title or so. It's better than dealing with the cow-humping scumbags at 'SU. It's nice to see that Eaves seems so focused on Parise, and respects his skill, and I just hope he forgets about the other guys on the ice. I'd bet we have a typically tough series with Wisco, and I hope we turn on the jets and destroy them accordingly.
-
That, folks, is what Matt Greene has in penalites/PIM so far. I knew I liked this guy. UNDStats

I agree that if people focus too much on Parise, it could cost them. What is nice though, as this focus allows guys like Spiewak, McMahon and Notermann to score or set up a goal. I think the better teams will know you can't focus just on Parise, but you do have to keep an eye on him.

The only thing I know was that Brooks was a big proponent of expanding D1 hockey in this state, including SCCC and eventually BSU. I hadn't heard of the Minnesota bigshots trying to thwart the expansion of SCCC's program or the building of the NCC. However, if they indeed did run counter to Brooks' views on the subject and actively worked to stunt SCCC's emergence in D1 hockey it may have contributed to the bad blood he may feel towards the school. I understand that Brooks has a lot of regard for Blais, and for UND's hockey tradition even though he fought like hell to beat the Sioux whenever he could. He's pretty much of the "old school" in that fashion. It's really too bad if indeed the quote is entirely accurate. Brooks is often mentioned in the same awed tones as Mayisich and Mariucci around here for what he did for the program. Then again, Brooks isn't the first alum of a school to have some degree of ill-will develop.
-
I have it on pretty good authority that Brooks left Minnesota on unpleasant terms related to his compensation, as well as control issues over the direction of the program. Moreover, Brooks did not really mesh with the admins and academics who exerted some influence over the hockey program, as well as the athletic dept in general. Herb's a nice guy, and he doesn't mince his words ... about anything. Was at Mariucci last night. "The Quote" was definitely being discussed in our section, as well as in the can. It got even louder as Minnesota fell deeper into the hole too.

The DOJ investigation at SCCC is different than what transpired at UND. DOJ is conducting an active civil investigation into SCCC's policies and practices regarding treatment of minority students and faculty. DOJ's Civil Rights division is heading the investigation, unlike the relatively toothless Dept of Education group that looked at UND. If action is warranted, the feds could bring an action action SCCC. Moreoever, SCCC is also the subject of a number of private, civil rights suits brought by some former/current faculty. Private studies and reports from "independent" third-parties will probably mean little at the end of the day. Saigo and the rest of the SCCC admin are probably of the opinion that if they protest UND's name, it will somehow make them look more "progressive" and less like a bunch of jack-offs who can't handle their own affairs.
-
Yep, those paleo-liberal, white do-gooders at SCCC still haven't done too much about the systemic racism on their campus. Perhaps they've been too busy protesting UND's nickname to handle their own problems. PioPravda

No. Blais actually uses tarot cards, horoscopes and a 1979 Fifty Cent piece to determine lines. He uses a roulette wheel and dartboard for the goalies.
-
Excellent photos, Melissa. BTW: Is anybody else nauseated by the Nike "Swoosh" on our sweaters now?
-
I think most UND fans were fairly certain that Sandelin would get the Bulldogs shaped up. He took a lot of flak in the Duluth area for dropping local players and bringing in his own recruits. I don't hear too much complaining now. I hope he keeps it up, except when we play them.
-
Last night was definitely a needed win for the team. It not only breaks the "NCC Curse" but it also gave them a nice dose of confidence finishing a tight game in a tough arena. It was also nice to see the scoring spread around a bit more this weekend, rather than relying on Parise and Bochenski. However, it's nice they can score too. Question for anybody who saw/listened to both games: Did Siembida play better Saturday, or did he get just more help upfront (17 SOG)? Either way, a nice win for him.
-
Dahl has recruited some of the best players in the WCHA in the past, only to have them leave early without a Title. So, does this "Junior-Senior" league nonsense mean that UND, Minnesota and other teams with alot of younger players are screwed? Then again, "talent only takes you so far" ... like a short-return ticket from the NC$$ tourney with a "Participant" ribbon. What an idiot.
-
I think most of us were concerned about goaltending and this game proves us correct. However, hockey's a team sport and apparently the rest of the guys weren't doing their job in keeping the puck away. That said, we have a serious weakness in not having consistent goaltending. Not sure if it's time to bring in another minder, but this is an area that cannot be ignored or downplayed by an emphasis on Parise, Bochenski et al. or big d-men. This is a serious gut check for the team. They really need to bear down and play a tough, focused game tonight to come away with the split. Not an easy task, but I think we can still get two.
-
I agree entirely Jim. It's ridiculous that a state North Dakota's size has so many four-year schools. I always thought it would be best to keep Minot, 'SU and UND, and maybe DSU, as the four-year schools and make the rest "feeders" like Minnesota does for its State University system and community colleges. However, as was pointed out, that will never fly. Meanwhile, the state will still face the fixed costs of having too many schools with overlapping missions and a shrinking student base.
-
While it is nice to get a win, it seems that the team slopped it through. I would hope that the other lines would have contributed more to the effort. I'd guess Blais might start doing more "cut and paste" to lines 2-4, or perhaps one of his famous "paint off the walls" sermons might light a fire under some people.

BRIDGES and that ilk merely seem to be preaching to the choir. They bring in people of like mind and don't encourage a rational dialogue regarding the name, or anything else. I wonder when they're going to bring in somebody to talk about other issues in NA culture, e.g., crime, alcoholism, gangs, health issues, poverty, etc. Perhaps those issues just aren't "sexy" enough for the PC crowd.
