It broke my heart that Mike Mottau didn't win a Natty in 2000!

Thanks for letting us know who to blame if things don't go well tomorrow night! No matter what happens, Hak is now off the hook........

I think it is funny how you can see the photographer's reflection in the window. The PC police don't get it, or don't care that the banner was purely directed at the NCAA. Maybe this was just a stunt to get Time Out week more media coverage (maybe giving them too much credit). Unfortunately, Gamma Phi are the ones being sent to Time Out by Kelley and his self righteous staff! Embarrassed that my alma mater has found this new low! -
I think we should start a fund drive here at SIOUX SPORTS for them. If anyone got that going (not my skillset) I would pledge a lot of money! The next phone call from UND I get, and there are plenty, I am going to tell them that I will not be able to donate this time. This is straw that broke the camels back for me. No more dollars, aside from season tickets and champions club, will I give to the university until Kelley and his like-minded PC zealots are gone!

Now we cant say we miss our nickname and that we are still proud of school? The PC idiots are going too far! Article link http://www.grandfork...tion-apologizes GO FIGHTING SIOUX!

When I saw the headline in the paper today, I instantly had a heavy heart. Serge was a great guy. I had him as a gym teacher as a sophomore and always looked forward to being around him. He had a great sense of humor and was one of the classiest guys you would ever meet. Condolences to his family. Godspeed, Serge!

That was sweet! The music sounds like it was sung by Loverboy???

Lucia can thank Guentzel for saving his job! Now it is Mikes turn to get the opportunity to be a head coach for a div 1 hockey team. CC would be a great place for him. I am not sure if he would be as successful as a head coach as that remains it be seen, but he obviously is a top-notched assistant. I hope he leaves gooferville, and Hill returns! Haha

I spent a long April weekend in Anaheim looking for my hockey team. Couldn't find them anywhere so we went to disney and sea world instead. Fire Blais! Haha...
-
Now that's old time hockey! Thank you!

2006 wasn't as close as the final score indicated either. The game Jordan laid an egg! 2007 coin flip game that Shegos boned us on call against Finley 2008 embarrassing. I remember sitting in our suite during the second period changing my return flight from Sunday to Friday.

you should have added something about all the beat-downs that BC put on the Sioux in those "evenly-matched" games! how many beat-down wins have we witnessed our favorite hockey team experience during the national tourney in recent times? there are a few, but not that many!
-
None of us will ever know how many, if at all, Blais would have won had he stayed here through the Oshie years. The guy can coach an he proved it once again in Saskatchewan a few years back. What people fail to mention is that recruiting to Omaha is a little different than recruiting to ND and the REA. Can you imagine what a kid like Josh Archibald would have meant to this years squad? Why did he not end up a Sioux like his old man?

You conveniently left out Haks batting average in the Frozen Four. Before the Hakstol era, we were 7 for 14 at the Frozen Four. Not hating on Hak, just objectively trying to tell the entire story!

Nice post! Grew up in gf, went to UND....... First game I remember was the 1979 iwabuchi broten national championship game. I was 8 and was hooked on Sioux hockey!

Dave, You make it sound like their is a major coups out there for removing Hak if he doesn't get it done this year. I think you, like many of the others that pledge unconditional support for Hak try to make more out of this than there really is. Its kinda like your "I told you so!" moment. I like to think that I look at our hockey coach as objectively as possible, give credit where credit is due, and criticism when i disagree on certain aspects of the program. Many of us so-called "haters" have given him kudos for what he has accomplished this season. The more I think about it, the more I believe he has become a much better coach over the past three season, specifically on how he manages his team. What his team accomplished during the spring of 2012 was his best job as head coach. I have always thought he was a great ambassador for Fighting Sioux hockey and was a great life mentor to the players. Do I think he should be fired if we don't win it all this year? The answer is simple:NO! However, I do believe that he needs to meet the high expectations that come along with being the head coach of a program so rich with tradition of winning at the highest level. I strongly disagree with your logic when you wrote, "In my opinion, making it to the NCAA Frozen Four is the equivalent of making it to the title game twenty years ago or winning a national championship thirty years ago." It almost sounds like you are making excuses for someone that has not won a national championship. From 81' until the NC$$ went to a 12 team format, winning the tournament was very difficult as you had to essentially win four games. I don't think the 1997 Michigan or 1998 Sioux teams thought it was easier when it was only a 12 team tourney either! The formula for winning was the same then as it is now show up, play hard, get a bounce or go home! Another statement I slightly disagree with you is this, "He’s produced a Hobey Baker winner (Ryan Duncan, 2007), developed countless NHL players (including T.J. Oshie, Zach Parise, and Jonathan Toews), and continues to bring in high-quality talent year after year." While I agree he had a hand in signing these guys, I think Blais might make an exception to this claim as he was probably quite influential in these guys choosing Sioux hockey. I know some will blast me for being a Blais guy and someone that can't let go of the past. This is not the case. I feel for Hak being burned by many top end recruits that decommitted to play major juniors. However, this happens to a lot of top end programs. It is the major reason for our average talent level at the forward position. Has Hak ever had a team that was as average up front as we are this year? Maybe in 2012. Maybe! This has been my biggest criticism of his team this year. It seems like Year after year he gets burned by top end recruits, only to fill the void with third or fourth line talent guys. At some point don't you have to have better contingency plans in place? I get tired of the fire Hak posts, but the posts that state that he can do no wrong and those that question him are all ignorant "haters", IMO are just as bad. Here's to the boys skating to 8! Go Sioux!

Hak and his staff have done a good job this season. Anything from here on out is icing on the cake. While a beat down by the rodents or the evil empire would be hard to bear, most fans will have realized it was a great run. I had similar feelings two years ago after the regional in St. Paul. I gained a lot of respect for him as a coach that year, as it was the best season of coaching during his tenure. Unfortunately we have still not totally reloaded from Frattins senior year. We are very average when it comes to talent at the forward position, which begs a different question that can be saved for another day.

Great pizza! Was there in February. Now can we get back to being labeled as "haters"? Thanks for taking the heat for awhile FS4Life! :-)
-
Definitely a nail biter! I had Lowell winning the whole thing this year. BC has won 3 in the last 6 yrs and have been to the championship in 5 of the last 8. Parity applies to everyone but BC over the last decade.
-
This is spot on. With the d-corps and Zane, we will be tough to score on in the next couple years. We will need to be better balanced up front. This years top line should be at best second line talent. Next year we should be better. Hopefully someone makes the jump like Frattin did the last half of his junior year and senior year.
-
I guess both Jerry York and I are oblivious to the concept of parity!
-
We are playing with house money this year! If they get smoked next game they have already exceeded expectations. Hak has done a great job this year! People like you get bent out of shape when fans question his ability to finish a season with teams loaded with talent. I am not a hater, I just am not blinded by green colored glasses!
-
Like I have said before...... Are we measuring our success now on getting to the frozen four or winning the whole thing? Hak won his first F4 game and hasn't won one since. Don't get me wrong, I applaud what he has accomplished this season, but he needs to figure out how to win at the end of the year! Saying that, I believe his team has exceeded most fans expectations this year. It's when he has had the superior talent that frustrates us (Hak critics) when he doesn't get it done. I am not saying fire the guy, but he needs to be held to accountable for the success of the program. The question is how does Sioux hockey measure success?
