  1. BTN basically now holds the purse strings of the Big 10 institutions. They hold the rights to broadcast all sporting events for all of the schools, and they REALLY want college hockey to fill the black hole they currently have on Friday nights during the winter months. If they can find one more school to commit to a D1 hockey program (at least 2 could make the move rather easily), there is NO doubt that the Big 10 Hockey Conference would become a reality very quickly. Will be interesting to see how this plays out, especially with Alverez making a real serious push for it.
  2. Good point ......remember (again), that the NCAA awards these things to sites that guarantee the most $$$$, that is really the criteria.
  3. Not sure how they would have done that. The regional tickets sales are handled by the host school. where the Frozen Four tickets are available ONLY through the lottery system run by the NCAA. Denver would have had NO control concerning the Frozen Four tickets. Regarding the Final Five. Every WCHA school has the oppertunity to bid for the tournament. I have no idea how many do, but if you recall the few years where the tournament alternated between Minnesota (St Paul Civic Center & Target Center) and Wisconsin (Bradley Center), the attendance in Wisconsin wasn't very good. Badger games didn't sell out, or even come close. So, keeping in mind the goal of the Final Five is to make money for the WCHA, where else should this tournament be held ?
  4. He is 14 years old, and has yet to even step foot into a high school classroom http://www.startribune.com/sports/27208624...iD3aPc:_Yyc:aUU
  5. So.....among all of those players that you have listed that have been out of the MN system for a while (Chucko, Tallackson, and Taylor), which of these guys has lit the world on fire since they had "good development" with better coaches ?
  6. You are correct.......he has not graduated. He has all of the credits required for graduation.
  7. Not to play hockey. He forfieted his amatuer status when he signed with an agent. And he already has his degree.
  8. It was Wheeler's choice not to sign, and become a free agent, had nothing with the 'Yotes 'not wanting him'. It does seem a curious choice on Wheeler's part. Can only assume he had some kind of issue with the organization, and just did not want to be a part of it.
  9. I guess i am not clear as to why that was supposed to upset anyone...........
  10. This year was $35,950, plus an additional $4,000 if you are in the hockey program. And if you spend all of your time in the old arena............you will be less than overwhelmed.
  11. 14 years as an assistant coach is a lifetime in college hockey, and Guentzel has always said he wants to be a head coach. It really is as simple as that. The meeting between Lucia and Guentzel had more to do with how long Lucia planned on staying than Guentzel staying. As far as Ryan being at Notre Dame, he is there BECAUSE of his father, not in spite of him.
  12. Good argument..............in every situation, it is legal to use a kick to move the puck.........except when you kick into the net.
  13. Just wanted to congratulate your boys on another great run in the 2nd half of the season, and another Frozen Four. Maybe some day you'll get a draw that doesn't include BC. It was something to see all of the Sioux fans at the Pepsi Center on Thursday, there was certainly more green than any other color in the arena, a real testament to your fans. Not real keen on all of those high school age kids wandering around with the "FUBC" t-shirts....... Got to meet a lot of good people, and a great time with fans from all over the country including a LOT of really great fans from North Dakota. Hate to wish the summer away........but can't wait till October, and we can get started on another college hockey season............things should be pretty interesting next year.
  14. The biggest difference between the 2 is that Turris wanted to sign, and Wheeler wanted his degree first. He is on schedule to do that by the end of this term. Believe or not, some of this guys actually DO care about getting an education as well.
  15. That was pretty good.........

    Tom Pohl

I am sure that Jason Wiley feels horrible about what happened. If anyone has ever spent any time with kid, they would know that there is NO WAY that he would ever put himself in position to hurt another player. He is about as mild mannered as he could be, and always plays the game the right way. There was nothing intentional about happened, and what really caused the problem was when Wiley's eldow caught on Pohl's helmet and it came off. Great to hear that all of Tom P's issues seem to cleared up..............and hop e that Jason W will get over it too.
  17. You right........when a coach yells at a ref "there's no f'n way thats a penalty", that just fine. BUT, when he makes it personal, by saying "F you', or gives him the finger (which I think is the exact same thing), that coach is going to get tossed regardless of what sport it is or what level.
  18. I have to believe that Hakstol would get suspended 1 game for this. If Hakstol had SAID that to Adams, he would have been kicked off of the bench for the rest of the game. Suspend him, and forget about it............not that big of a deal.
  19. Best post on here. THe common theme here is that EVRYONE makes mistakes. The real issue is how you deal with these mistakes. At the end of the day, it's going to be up to Nate to decide which way he wants this thing to go. But, at the same time, remember, that people always have choices to make. In this case he made a choice to put himself in that position. Hopefully, he will now make the right the choice, and do what what is neccesary to live a good and productive life. Some people choose to do that, sadly, a lot people choose not too.
  20. Never looked at that before, but you are dead on. I just looked at this schedules for all of the 5 Big Ten schools that have D1 hockey, and Ohio State went to Minnesota earlier this year, and thats it. You have to remember that most place, hockey does NOT generate. Football and basketball are the sole sources of income for most athletic departments (outside of donations), so in order for a athletic department to operate in the black, these 2 sports must support x amount of other non-revenue generating sports, and that is VERY tough thing to do.
  21. Counldn't agree more, it is embarrassing. The only exception is the College Hockey Showcase over the Thankgiving week-end against Michigan and Michigan State, where they only have travel every other year.
  22. That was just plain stupid !! But, because of the day and age that we live in, that became a "gender equality" issue. Technically, Ridder Arena is the womens hockey arena............but beleive me, I hear what your saying !!
  23. Actually it IS an impenetratable barrier. The UM Athletic Department (aka. Joel Maturi) does not allow the hockey team to travel for ANY games, other WCHA games, or post season games. Stupid ?? Yes. But it is done, according to Maturi, to help balance the budget, which takes a huge hit in football, and in past years, bouncy ball.
  24. I hope your right, because if the BTN does make it (and that's a BIG if), it could get fairly ugly. The Big Ten schools do NOT negotiate seperate contracts for individual sports with the BTN. They have carte blanche, given them all the rights to all of the sports, although it does not supercede existing contracts, which really only come into play nationally for football and basketball. However, the Gopher hockey contract with FSN runs out next year, and after that the BTN controls ALL rights to EVERY game. If they choose not to broadcast the game, it is their choice if they want to sell the rights of the game to FSN, CSTV, or whoever, or just not allow the game to be broadcast at all. That could be pretty good bargining tool for them have, in terms of pushing for a BTHC. Plus it would give guaranteed revenue to some of the schools that currently don't have the resources for a D1 hockey program. I personally would hate to see it to see happen, because it could mean that we could end up playing the majority of games against completely non-conpetitive teams, instead of UND, UMD, CC, Denver. etc. (although this year, that may not have been a bad thing )
  25. Kangas will get the start on Friday...........no word on what happens Saturday yet. I am assuming the coaching staff is going to wait and see how Kangas fares. I am sure they are well aware of the Frazee meltdown at the Concrete Center last year,
