  1. Agree wholeheartedly with the previous posters. NDSU hyped a D-I game against Valpo as if it were the Rose Bowl, and has managed to significantly boost attendance. SDSU has similarly experienced an attendance surge through the transition. The excitement around a D-I transition and new opponents presents a rare opportunity that UND can't let go unexploited. No question D-I hockey will remain the big moneymaker and attendance-grabber for the school for the foreseeable future, but UND needs to leverage that success and fanbase to draw attention to its new D-I sports. Hockey may have the largest revenue, but IAA/FCS football and D-I basketball have the largest growth potential; don't kill the goose laying the golden eggs, but don't ignore the growth opportunities, either.
  2. I think it's highly amusing. My struggle is that I would work in the other direction -- rather than search to find something for 1454, I would go through lists of facts noting anything with a tie to a number under 1460, thus having a ready to go list. I'll probably invest some time trying to look for stuff between 1000-1450 soon.
  3. I know a few people in the Cedar Rapids area, though none on this board. Here's what I do know: You're a mere 3 hour drive from the UND @ Wisconsin games, best road series of the year. Cedar Rapids is always one of the cities participating in the "satellite" parties (they've been at Cedar Brewing Company the last few years), so there must be a measurable number of UND alum who still follow the Sioux. Wikis

Continuing to pursue and attempt to demonstrate the vision of the wiki, I've moved the first (of hopefully many) of the previously static SiouxSports.com pages over to the wiki. The old links page will soon be retired in favor of the NCAA Hockey Links wiki page. This allows anyone to add or remove a link, so should help make it a better directory. To make it more useful, I also removed all the blogs (which are indexed elsewhere) and official sites (which are trivial to discover via Google). As an aside -- one thing that really struck me while working on this tonight was the big decline in the number of fan sites. Five years ago or so, every major team had at least one, if not multiple, fan sites. Now, dedicated fan sites are actually quite rare. My guess is this a reflection of three things: 1) schools having better sports information on the web, 2) fans gathering on general purpose social networking sites, 3) students who want to build something on the web working on their facebook instead of building a site.
  5. Look now, Google is visiting the site as I write this!
  6. Two words: polar bear. You'll never see an armadillo living within 100 mi of a polar bear.
  7. I would normally always cheer for the Eastern team, but once it was either Pens or Philly, I just couldn't do it (I quipped to Mrs. SiouxSports that the only good outcome to that series would be some sort of natural or man-made disaster canceling the Eastern Conference playoffs and both teams losing). That said, Philly was dramatically overachieving, but Pitt really is that good. It's no secret that I'm not much of a Crosby fan, but he's been playing a solid setup role, Malkin has been awesome, and most surprisingly the Pitt D has been stifling. I think that will be the real question -- if Detroit (a somewhat unfamiliar and far more experience opponent) can crack the Penguin D, they could crush the Penguins because that's what Pitt has been riding for the last couple rounds. On the other hand, if the Pens can stay true to form...
  8. Funny, when I saw the head the first thing I thought was "that's one messed up turkey" -- not coming up with the vulture part. To me the biggest contrast was GeauxSioux's backyard vs. the view from my windows (where if I saw one of those birds, I might just call the police).
  9. The funny part is they already tamed the logo down from the original to make it more palatable to <ahem> non-Seattle </ahem> audiences. I remember being somewhat upset when they reintroduced the logo at how much they were selling out with the strategically repositioned hair concession. Original Starbucks Logo <-- Do not click if offended by hand-drawn, anatomically correct mermaids
  10. If you've seen someone personally attacking everyone who dares disagree with him, point it out and we'll look into it. We probably were inconsistent in letting that go on for too long last Fall, a mistake we've tried to corrected this Spring and that we'll try not to make again. Messages are posted to the board unmoderated, and we certainly don't read every one, so it's entirely possible we've missed such. We appreciate everyone's help in making this a place where people can have a debate and disagree without being personally attacked for holding the "wrong" point of view.
  11. Buning wanted to play the Bison, too; it was NDSU that refused to come to the table. When an NDSU administrator says "let's play UND", that will be newsworthy.
  12. Not addressed to GF_Siouxfan specifically, but this post reminded of a clarification I failed to make after the weekend... Just to be clear... a discussion about whether a coach should be replaced strikes me as squarely on topic; that thread was closed not because of its topic but because it had strayed from its topic to off-topic bitching and personal attacks. I would expect many people to disagree with such a post, and the best response would be for them to engage in the discussion and refute it with on-topic counterarguments, not attack the poster with whom they disagreed. That said, I personally wish people were a little more positive and wish everyone would have the good taste to post negative comments tactfully; since players and coaches and parents will see what you wrote, it's a good idea not to write what you wouldn't say to their faces. In that vein, while negative evaluation of public figures' public performance is permitted, an "official" thread dedicated to "bashing" an individual is just too gauche.
  13. When Notre Dame was down by two vs. BC, I tried to assure my friends that it was still possible because the Caps had come back from being down two in the third vs. Philly on Friday night. Turned out Notre Dame didn't have an Ovechkin and B.C. was no Philly.
  14. For the record, I'm pretty sure Triouxper was joking when he said that; he was trying to make fun of the fair weather/bandwagon fans.
  15. Since only one traitorperson picked B.C. to win it all, there is a runaway winner: Final bracket standings
  16. Thanks for another awesome season, guys. Thanks Dave for the list of memories, and thanks to everyone involved with Sioux hockey for making them happen. I know a lot of people were really down about the loss (me included), and some bristle at the negativity that always accompanies a disappointing loss (me included), but having finished skimming the literally over a thousand posts from the weekend, I was pleased to come away feeling the majority sentiment was one of appreciation. We always seem to blow the negativity out of proportion, thereby magnifying it and giving it more attention than the positivity. Here's to another great season.
  17. Without getting into personal lives or speculating as to anything that hasn't made it into newsprint, at the time he said she was sticking around through the AD transition but would "obviously join him later".
  18. That would be Danny's Platinum Fox
  19. Discussed a little bit here
  20. You omitted my favorite quote:
  21. The cookies are the important one. Every time I've heard of this problem and investigated it in-depth, it's been due to the browser having old cookies from when the board was at siouxsports.com/forum (the change in which I didn't realize would cause such problems or I would have been more careful! )
  22. I was as surprised as you that anyone would react that way and choose to spend their time and effort in such a manner. It was a rather unprecedented series of attempts to disrupt the forum and harass and annoy its members, which is why I felt it deserved explanation. No argument from me -- personal attacks against anyone are out of line, and will be dealt with by a moderator when seen or reported. That's certainly how we've tried to position it. Our goal has been to try to welcome disagreement, as long as those disagreeing can have a civil debate without resorting to personal attacks (as discussed above). Frankly, the more common criticism is that we allow people to say things that others would prefer we wouldn't (e.g. criticism of players' performance). We've never cared as much what people have to say as how they say it.
  23. The Sioux have three more games, what do you need
  24. And as usual, I'm right there, too. It's funny, this afternoon I was trying to pick an upset and had punched in Notre Dame, but changed my mind and decided SCSU was due (I know SCSU was the #2 seed, but nonetheless considered Clarkson the default pick)
