Boy, if so that's a recent policy change. I honestly don't remember if they did much for Duncan, but I'm pretty sure I remember official promotions for some of Blake, Parise, Bochenski, and Panzer for the Hobey.
-
I should've mentioned this before it was noticed here -- I made a change to the forum so when you reply to a post it only quotes the most recent post. This prevents big chains of 10 quotes forming in a post. That's a good thing, in that I think people often did so accidentally and it wasted a lot of time and space. However, it can also be a bad thing, because it's now a lot harder for you to quote back a couple posts, if you really want to. Feedback has been positive for this change so far, though contrary views are always welcome.
-
Yeah, we're trying that out. The giant 10-reply-quoting posts were becoming obnoxious and do slow everything down. However, I'm open to criticism of this scheme, too

Yeah, it's honestly a bit of a mystery to me. It was chugging along fine, actually setting a record for simultaneous use without really looking like it was breaking a sweat, then at a not particularly busy time it just became overwhelmed. However, it is true that once something went wrong and the server got busy doing something, people continuing to try to reload it caused tens of thousands of requests to queue up and it can never really catchup again. I need to modify that behavior so when it becomes overwhelmed, it stops trying to respond to new requests but instead just says "sorry, I'm busy right now", which would allow it to catchup and become accessible again quickly. I've tried unsuccessfully to create such a configuration in the past, and it's pretty tough to test, but that's the easiest short-term solution. Medium-term, I upgrade the capacity every 12 months or so, but am unlikely to make any huge changes before the hockey season ends, because they can be quite disruptive.

That's correct. PWR, which is just the selection committee's selection criteria expressed as a formula, has always correctly predicted the exact field of teams (including predating USCHO). USCHO's "bracketology" analysis of where teams might be placed, which unlike the PWR formula is subjective, has been dead-on the last two years but has been wrong in the past.

I offered this briefly again last Fall, but was getting awful score accuracy off the wires (see discussion) so shut it down. Basically, twice in the first three weeks on Saturday night the Friday night scores were coming across the wire. (That is, big sites like Yahoo! Sports and CSTV.com were showing the wrong scores, too). I don't mind offering a service that's a little hit or miss on timeliness, based on data availability, but was distinctly not interested in sending out incorrect scores. That said, a friend and I have been successfully testing it with no data problems since New Year's or so, so I'll probably give it a try again next season.

UND/SCSU fan social set for Saturday, March 8th
jimdahl replied to Dave Berger's topic in Men's Hockey
Just wanted to bump this thread and express some thanks to Dave for inviting SiouxSports.com and its members to participate this year. This get-together has been going on for quite a while in one form or another, so you're guaranteed to have Sioux and SCSU fans to chat with if you can stop by. The list of sponsors is impressive, and its a great opportunity for SiouxSports.com members to join in the socialization, grab a pre-game meal or drink, and win a prize. -
Some may remember this discussion that led to the birth of the SiouxSports.com blog. Though it's been pretty successful at covering hockey, and I've personally made a few posts about football, it would be nice if someone a little more knowledgeable could cover football a little more (& other topics/sports, if desired). I was swayed to support the blog because it seemed a good idea to have an alternate (to the forum) source of information and opinion that's a bit more civilized and easier for the casual fan to keep up with. That's still sort of the mission statement. The big benefits to wannabe bloggers of joining the SiouxSports.com blog are instant high readership from an established site and the reduced writing obligation of being part of a team (if you can only post now and then, that's ok, because others will be posting also). If that sounds interesting and you'd like to volunteer to join the team, just get in touch with me. All we'd be looking for from you is an occasional, informal blog post about UND athletics (particularly non-hockey!), though you'd certainly never be under any obligation.

I haven't dusted this off in a while, because we haven't been in the hunt in years, but it's amused me this Spring: WCHA final rankings possibilities

Hot off the presses: Sioux move into T-1

A blackhawks t-shirt with the logo reduced to monochrome, set in white on a kelly green t-shirt might appeal to Sioux fans with a sense of nostalgia. St. Patrick's Day Blackhawk T-shirt

Well, that's why I was saying it could get tricky for RedFrog . You're now going to be able to find sources that stick with the originally published box with Genoway, though the schools just link directly to collegehockeystats, which is the source most of us (and the league) consider official. 15 mins ago they said Genoway, now they say Oshie.
-
And indeed it has been updated -- the collegehockeystats box now gives it to Oshie (though secondary sources such as USCHO may not pick up the change).
-
Not sure what you're considering official, but the our box score is drawn from what the host school's scoring official sends to collegehockeystats.net, which so far gave it to Genoway (as does USCHO, almost certainly using the same data source). I don't recall ever seeing them change one of those based on later video review, but that's doesn't mean it couldn't happen.

In terms of the comparison to UND, this weekend's results shouldn't flip it but could set us up for a flip down the road. All of UND's remaining opponents are currently TUCs and UNH has two games vs. Vermont (a TUC) remaining, so UND's performance this weekend does matter in terms of being able to flip the TUC point. Plus, if Merrimack did pull two off UNH, Merrimack would be well on its way to becoming a TUC (it would push them up 4-5 spots on RPI). As always, though, the TUC cliff looms large. Mich. Tech could drop off with a poor showing vs. Denver, which will be a blow to UND's TUC. Mass.-Lowell is on the cusp, which could actually be a boon to UNH.
-
That actually fits with Walrus' info that we have Oct. 4 and Oct. 11 free, and the dates we know for all UND's other games. It seems both UND and UW-Lax were free on Sept. 13.
-
Not saying it's gonna happen, but if UND were to win out and sweep someone other than AA in the WCHA play-in, the regular season wins vs. AA would become negative RPI wins. Of course, UND would also likely have taken the lead in RPI so at least 1 or 2 in PWR, which would probably get the bigger press.
-
Thanks for the scoop. The new one that hadn't yet made the schedule wiki is vs. UW-La Crosse (one that I believe no one was keeping an eye out for). Nice to see the 5-5 split so far, and home breaking down DIII (1), DII (3), FCS (1). As has been pointed out in this thread, this is probably the toughest year to get anyone to come to G.F.
-
I think that's the same story that was posted in Standing Rock/Spirit Lake.
-
That's assuming status quo for lots of other things. For example, Miami has 2 TUC wins vs. Vermont, who wasn't even a TUC until the end of this 4-game winning a streak vs. Merrimack and Mass.-Lowell. A similar losing streak vs. Maine and New Hampshire would knock them right back out of consideration, knocking two TUCs back off Miami.

With a small amount of original material, I pulled together the bios from this thread into A look at UND's AD Candidates.

Since this is the second time in a month you've made an offhand remark about how much I should appreciate "the money" I'm making off of you, I should probably respond. I think (and hope) that many of our fellow members think of this as a community to which they belong rather than a business of which they are customers. I read the interest in identifying the community that brings them together as a reflection of that. To set the record straight, I've sunk thousands of personal dollars and hours into this. Every time you view a page, that's money out of my pocket; when the site doubles in popularity, I'm happy for the service I'm able to provide the Sioux community, but it also costs me twice as much. I've seen few other such sites, even a fraction of the size, that didn't require membership fees or donations to survive. The moderators, bloggers, contributors, and photographers are also all volunteers who donate their time and efforts to help make this a better community and source of Sioux information. We've thought a central source of information and community for people interested in the Sioux worthwhile enough that we've been willing to devote considerable personal resources to providing such to Sioux fans for over a decade.

I've been suitably shamed.

Since everyone's going to such an effort, any chance of getting each week's in a new thread?
