Having abandoned our offices by 10am or so, I remember watching tv in the hotel bar until about 11:30am when the genius manager kicked us all out insisting he had to start preparing for the lunch crowd. I don't think he quite grasped the magnitude of the event. I was in Atlanta, though living in Madison, WI, at the time. Atlanta and O'Hare being among the last airports to reopen that week, I felt reasonably stranded in Atlanta. I found out that two of my coworkers were from Chicago, so we just grabbed one of their rental cars and drove up to Chicago/Madison. The funniest part of that trip was when the two women I was driving with forced us to stop at an outlet mall on the way home (really, you need to shop now? One of them even called my wife to apologize that I'd be getting home two hours later.) I still remember the poor Hertz woman when I returned that car-- Her: This car wasn't rented by you. Me: Nope. Her: Where is the person who rented it? Me: Chicago. Her: This car was supposed to be returned in Atlanta two days ago. Me: Yep. Her: <dumbfounded silence> Me: Have a nice weekend. The next weekend (not the 15th, but the 22nd) I was in one of our private corporate hotels just outside NYC. I was apparently among the few idiots who actually followed through his commitment to travel to NYC that weekend, so my company was letting visiting rescue workers stay in all of our empty rooms. I got to talking to some guys from a SWAT team from upstate at the company bar, who offered to take me to down to ground zero. The story of how we managed to get through two roadblocks but not the third is too long for this post, but it's a good one. So, we got as far as the inner ring around the WTC buildings but not inside. At that time the trade centers were still about a 5-story pile of rubble. Mentally trying to process the destruction, it was the smell that really overwhelmed you because you were mentally prepared for everything else.

College Hockey Live They don't seem to have anything up for this year yet... (You could have found that link yourself either from the hockey page or the front of the wiki, by following the link for NCAA hockey links to reach: http://wiki.siouxsports.com/doku.php/hocke...aa_hockey_links) Update: When I started writing this, AZSIOUX's post didn't contain the link yet

For yesterday: N.D. House Bill 1393 put the name "Ralph Engelstad Arena" into the state Century Code, thus requiring legislation for any future change. Helping the Ralph stay the Ralph

OT: This thread just passed half a million views. Wow.

I think we've deviated from meeting the "of general interest" test. If you guys want to continue down this line, please take it to PM or email. Thanks! Forum Terms & Rules

It's working for me, but REALLY quiet. Since I'm on a laptop, I can't do anything about it (I've got it cranked). I guess next time I try it on a computer connected to speakers. Still, I'm excited about the prospect.

Hat tip to UND92,96 for pointing this out over in the football forum -- it looks like the Coaches' Show will finally be available on the Internet. It's available as of now in real-time, and a listen later (podcast) option will be added later. Fighting Sioux coaches' radio show begins tonight Those of us not in the G.F. radio market will finally have the option to hear the show. Thanks UND!

1-3-98 UND men's hockey beat Western Michigan 5-1, completing the weekend sweep. UND holds a 4-0 all-time record vs. the Broncos, with an astounding 28 GF and 12 GA.

Though I feel like I post the "everyone's reading what you write, be careful" caveat at least every six months, I'll choose to be happy that others are taking up the mantle, because it's an important message. Watch what you say, because thousands of people are reading (Dec 2002). Having GDM or me actually delete a post or even suspend an individual is really a last resort -- community enforcement of its own standards is better for everyone. While we've put forth a sizable effort to write up some guidelines, they can really be summarized as: It's a timely post for this forum, as the scrutiny that has typically been reserved for hockey at UND will shine more and more on other sports as they move up to D-I.

1-3-99 UND lost to the other UND in hockey, 3-4. Source: 1998-99 schedule Perhaps surprisingly, UND has an all-time 15-16-1 losing record to ND.

The refresh matches the style the blog & wiki have had for a few weeks, front will have it soon. Cleaner lines, packing more into each page, but better use of white space, new color palette, etc... There's a lot more thought and theory behind it, but too much for this thread. Anyway... nice to see the offense find its groove. Good first game, fun to be able to see the video, happy to see openers like this instead of Crookston or even Humboldt, record first game attendance.

This link does it automatically for me (I couldn't get it to work by selecting it from the menu on the fightingsioux page). It uses Windows Media, so you have to be on a PC (it may work with the older Windows Media on Mac, I haven't tested that yet this year). I think it also requires Adobe Flash, now. If you're on Firefox, you probably need the Windows Media plugin for Firefox -- test in IE if you're not sure.

Nice to see something that was a little drive, too (instead of one big play, like the Javelinas TD). 8 play, 41 yd, 3:37

Sioux broadcast (reg. required) It's on 96.1 in G.F., but I don't immediately see a link to listen directly to that on the net. I'm not really getting much of anywhere with TAMUK's broadcast, either.

If you don't know how to check it, this page will tell you your IP address: http://forum.siouxsports.com/whoami.php If you visit that, then get booted, then visit it again, if the two values are different that's almost certainly the cause. However, this is again quite unlikely... in fact I've never heard of happening. The cookie problem is much more likely.

Nope, not intentional, I stay logged in for months at a time on multiple computers. This is all related to some increased security checks they added to the software a year or more ago to try to prevent people from stealing your logon info, so I'm hesitant to lower the security and go back to the old scheme. The only times I've heard of this happening are as described above (when you get multiple cookies that interfere with each other). The solution, as described above, is to delete all cookies. That should be a one-time fix, but unfortunately, in IE it's very difficult to just delete the cookies associated with one particular site. Another remote possibility that would cause the same symptom would be if your IP address was changing while you were using the same computer/device. I've never heard of any common situation where that happens, but I do only see one login attempt from your current IP address -- at 2:13pm CT.

Thanks for that point -- that's a big part of what makes it difficult to moderate something like this away. A Bison fan makes one post about how he's surprised to see a D2 on the schedule and instantly gets half a dozen replies from Sioux fans mocking NDSU's transition schedules. At that point, you certainly can't prohibit the NDSU fan from participating in the discussion and defending NDSU. People who want to compare UND's first year schedule to NDSU's, which is certainly a legitimate topic, should be able to go to a thread for that and people who are uninterested can avoid that thread. I think the problem wasn't the topic itself, but that quite a few threads were being hijacked and turned to that topic. That's something we'd already put on the "watchlist" and will work hard to prevent, but your point that people also just need to learn to ignore some crap is a good one -- one person can't hijack a thread alone, it takes other people falling for being goaded into responding.

Since this was personally addressed to me... , a few thoughts: * If you see a problem post, hit report. That instantly dispatches a message to multiple people to review the specific post, whereas it was a couple days before I personally got the chance to respond to this thread (I sometimes think you guys somehow get a copy of my vacation schedule and always do something the first day I'm out of town). * We certainly share your concern -- in the past week it's become difficult for Sioux fans to talk about Sioux football without Bison fans trolling about the schedule. GDM and I had just been in communication about that issue the day before this thread. I had kind of hoped the topic of comparing UND's schedule to NDSU's 1st year would play itself out, but since it seems to generate endless banter, we'll certainly try to coerce people to stay on topic and prevent threads about other topics from being hijacked into that. Thanks for the feedback, I always appreciate it, and don't hesitate to report specific posts that need immediate attention.

1-4-08 -- UND men's hockey lost to St Cloud 2-3, putting them under .500 in WCHA play. That was also the last time they were under .500 in the '07-08 campaign, as the next night's win began an 18-game unbeaten streak.

Sorry to interrupt... One week to go! This is a bit older article, but gives some interesting background on TAMUK's quarterback situation: TAMUK hoping six-quarterback competition pays off
