  1. My kingdom for a video of Bill Butters going after fans at the SW corner exit off the ice at the old barn (coal plant corner). Prequel to the water bottle fight. Woulda been the '71-72 season, I think. Not even Blackheart can pull this off.
  2. Wow. Whole package--skill, work ethic, character. Sounds smart, too.
  3. I should probably try to get my hands on the penalty box bench now that my wife wears the stripes in all home games.
  4. Are you guys talking about liability insurance or insurance for income lost as a direct result of natural disasters, such as the cancellation of the season? Something like professional athletes do to insure against their own injuries. The latter has to be very expensive.
  5. Would see him at the handball courts at the fieldhouse. He could play.
  6. Yeah, we had plenty of time to watch those games we wanted to watch. Thx B;ackheart
  7. Watching the old games, I was reminded how Oshie had that lumbering stride. He even looked heavy on his skates, yet he could cover ground.
  8. The boy with the magic wrist shot.
  9. I think you have brought us more than good memories. So much is said on this site about the the players, the team, and the game relative to what it once was. Watching these games from different eras and coached by different coaches in serial fashion really helps with perspective.
  10. He looked good, didn't he? Could turn on the jets. And the Cooperalls Driver wore. Never seen those in a college game before--and only a few in high school years ago. A little surprised Bob Johnson allowed it, but I guess it says something about the man.
  11. It sounded like it was the Dane County Coloseum.
  12. Watching these old games you really notice how actively involved the fans are.
  13. Yeah, good for him. Hope he blossoms there.
  14. Probably, but you have us as company.
  15. Time and space. So much goes into creating that in addition to the physical gifts.
  16. Siembida played great, but that was one sloppy hockey game.

    Hobey Baker

The wonderful thing about Kawaguchi's near miss on the Hobey is the contrast to his first two years and the improvement he's made. He's always had talent, but things just didn't click for him until this year or the latter part of last. The decisions he makes on the ice have improved dramatically. Next year should be a treat.

This thread is predictably a model of good sportsmanship.
  19. If the forwards play their role, which I think they will. Watching those games (all winning, which makes them easy to watch anxiety free), when the team was strongest, our forecheck and backcheck game was amazingly good. Other teams just could not get comfortable. It made our D game easier, and I think it led to more scoring from D, who skated up into the play a lot.
  20. After what Blackheart has done for us these past weeks, this thread should have an audio caption of Harry Nilson singing "Come on baby let the good times roll."
  21. I was at one game at the KC when he made a diving, half breakaway shot for a goal to win the game. Crushing but a fantastic play. Someone on the Badger staff should have guided him more on the diving stuff, though. It did him no good in the end.
  22. Some health issues that were pretty serious, from what I recall, though it didn't all come out til later.
  23. Too bad he was a diver. Great talent.
  24. I didn't see Roche in person much, and your really need to be in the rink to get a full idea of someone's play in all areas of the ice. That said, I did not think Roche was at Patrick's level defensively. But he had those wonderfully soft hands to go along with his on-ice intelligence, which would serve him even better in today's college game.
  25. I agree that any tendency the rules changes have had to make the game more speed and finesse oriented is a good thing. Embellishment is a tough call to make, but it would be nice to see it used more to deal with those players who try to abuse the obstruction rules to their advantage.
