  1. I think Mr. Engelstead would be so upset with what has transpired that he would rather see a AHL team use the facility & name, than change the name of his team

In the end of it all, I don't agree with this.
  2. No problem pal. I've brought us the same amount of National Championships as Hakstol has. And I'm doing it for FREE. He has had the most talent in the last decade than any other team in the country and still has produced SQUAT.

You "happy to be there" fans can take all of your frozen four "appearances". I've been a UND hockey fan for 2 decades and expect NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS from a program with the history that UND has.

Hakstol CHOKES time and time again and gets outcoached by Hockey East time and time again. We don't need to pay a coach an arm and a leg to do that.

So again, my "resume" for you includes ZERO National Championships. The same that our overrated coach has. Good enough for ya?

You can have your opinion. I'm a Hakstol fan, despite the postseason disappointments. The man has done a great job, is one of the most respected coaches in college hockey, has built a program that is respected in the pro ranks, and I'll bet he himself is as respected in the pro ranks.

He understands there is more to the "program" than just talented kids. He's maintained and perhaps enhanced a program that attracts great players, where former players regularly come back (or speak fondly of once they have moved on).

He brings in players that we can cheer for.

He's not been perfect, but he's as close as I could ask for without winning the last game of the season.

I've no problem with him as the coach. We're pretty lucky. We could do so much worse.

  3. Does anyone remember what Trupp, Frattin, Malone, Hextall, LaPoint, and Marto, looked like in game 2 of their freshman years? Hell, you couldn't find Frattin with a search light until his Junior season. R-E-L-A-X This team will be better as the season goes along.

Would everyone on this board rather UND scheduled Maine in the early season or Sacred Heart like some other loser schools do? I would rather the Sioux play quality opponents for non-conference.

    Amen

  4. For $15K a month, he had to deliver something. :glare:

May as well just stay in the f'ing WCHA and keep McClown around as Commissioner.

Actually, as someone pointed out to me, you've traded AA, MTU, Bemidji and the WCHA leadership for Miami, Western MI, and hopefully a decent conference leadership group.

Not all that bad of a trade, considering how much we belly-ached about McLeod for years. And none of us thought the WCHA was an inferior conference at that point.

  5. I can't believe that some of us have hung out on this board since 2001.... A guy could grow old on here.

    I think I did

Good to hear PCM's voice again. I can't believe his post count his still so high!

  6. A large percentage of us also live in Colorado; don't forget that. SCSU is a joke and they have consistently thrown us under the bus when it came to the Sioux name so I am all for a little extra travel. last year there was just as many Sioux fans in Colorado Springs for the CC series as tyhere was Tiger fans; i was even able to buy a green beer!!

Actually, until a court of law declares it unconstitutional, it isn't. Carlson is right in that the University should not be moving forward with actual actions to retire the Fighting Sioux name. They should be moving ahead with developing plans on the course of action to be followed if the law is repealed. If UND were to move ahead with any specific action retiring the name at this point, they open themselves up to a lawsuit by anyone and everyone that they are violating state law. That would waste more money and resources and create more employment for lawyers. Plan to be able to move ahead, but do not execute anything until the law is actually changed. Whether or not you support the law is immaterial. Moving ahead prematurely could just create a whole new set of issues and costs. As individuals and institutions we are not at liberty to choose which laws to obey.

And you are correct. I can't separate the fact that my own personal preferences may leach into my opinions from time to time. I would think, however, that there are more here in MN than in CO. But your point is still valid for the many UND fans in the CO. area.

    .

  7. I'm not knowledgeable enough about the financial dynamics of which school should or should not be invited to be in the NCHC but I would take St. Cloud over Tech. Sure, Tech has tradition and the McNaughton but St. Cloud is typically a better program, has some good fans, and is upgrading their facility. It's ok not to like St. Cloud, but I think they are a decent program, even if they lack the resources and some of the commitment of programs like UND.

Plus, their location is a lot better for a large % of UND fans that live in MN, vs having to travel to Michigan or Colorado or (insert outstate location here).

  8. On the Herald site one poster recommended the new name be "Sundogs" which is a cold weather phenomenon and would be a completely unique name with an interesting opportunity to create a cool logo.

I love the Fighting Sioux name but I think that we can't get away with simply no nickname so what do you guys think of this name/logo idea?

    please, no.
