    After Denver

Regardless of the penalties, the guys didn't put the biscuit in the basket and that is the name of the game. From what I have read here on the internet and the little I got to listen to the game, chances were created, but not finished. Remember this happened earlier this season. When was it, early December? We had questions about whether this team could score or not. It went on to do so. So maybe this is a little scoring slump that will correct itself in time. Just hope it is in time. I also have to say I am finally to the stage of worrying about this team. After the CC sweep I said we'd have to see how the team rebounds. It does with a thorough trouncing of Tech, then gets it handed to them in a "character" loss the next night. Then we got to Denver and have more trouble. Yeah, we miss David Hale, and have missed Canady but criminy every team has had injuries this year so we can't lean on that. Gotta suck it up and get it done. Spiewak carried the 3rd period on Friday and a few other guys have to step up and finish once in a while. That lack of scoring depth so rumored early in the season and put to bed mid season is again a question mark. This is a critical weekend and it could tell us what fortunes await our beloved team for the rest of the year. Another weekend lacking offense with average defense and maybe that's what we'll have to live with the rest of the year. I hope not.
  2. You know, I knew you went to school there, but blanked it out when I heard "hockey". I grew up about 1.5 hours north of Brookings. We didn't know ice was for anything other than doing 360's with the car.
  3. Here's more that I liked, Sprig:
  4. That must feel like crap. Where'd you play PCM?
  5. It hurts bad to lose with 2 seconds left. The Sioux were 2 seconds away from coming home with 2 points, just what they hoped for this weekend. It does suck, but the lack of points maybe makes it look like a worse weekend than it was. D Hale being absent doesn't account for the lack of scoring, however..... Way to go Ranny. Sounds like he gave the team every chance to win the game. Well, this is going to be a tough row to hoe here at the end of the season. Duluth looks to be playing awfully well right now. So we have to reckon with Mankato and Duluth in the next weekends. Forgive me if I don't include Bucky in the terribly threatening category right now. Though this team can't look by anyone. Ouch.
  6. jk I came over here because i couldn't really work USCHO because it was so slow. Noticed game updates happening here and spent most of the 3rd listening to the game, and watching this board.
  7. Ok I was wrong in OT but Sioux WILL win on Sat night and take 3 points in Denver. Not bad.
  8. There's a senior who is willing his team to win. Sioux win in OT, that's my prediction
  9. Is that a big goal or what? My man Speedwak scores 3-2 Denver. Let's hope this injects some luck into our boys and they can find another score. Senior leader stepping up. Way to go, Spie!
  10. Handyman, did you see this quote?

    Call Up's

Way to go Ryan!! Since he left early, it is nice to see he could get to the Show at least once this year.
  12. This is why Speedwak has been my favorite player for many years.
  13. Get well quickly, Lane. This was a tough break but it looks like it could have been a whole lot worse. We look forward to seeing you in the Green and White next year.
  14. I won't do the whole WCHA. Sioux split. If they get swept THEN I believe they are in a slump. Of 2001-02 proportions. However, I firmly believe that's not the case. It is possible the Sioux sweep. Better chance of that than getting swept. Any points over 2 should be celebrated as they will help make up for MI Tech disaster.
  15. I'm not yet ready to call this a slump. They hit the #1 team on the road. That is a fair recipe for a sweep, even if D Hale, possibly the MVP is not on the ice. One would have liked a better showing in the games, though. That said, the loss against Tech was, IMO, a "character" loss. The team has played a lot of games this year, many against subpar competition. They have played some better teams after Christmas. Then they come home and whomp up on Tech on Friday night. Sat, they took it off. Shame on them. If this weekend goes bad then I get concerned. Right now I'm interested in seeing how this team responds. Therefore, I generally attribute this "streak" to the loss of David Hale. Not his fault, obviously. But I will agree with Blais when he says we split at CC if he's in the lineup. If so, we are talking about one loss at CC which no one would be critical of. And then one loss at home against Tech which can be considered a shameful anomaly. That's my take.
  16. A friend has asked me what time the coaches show(s) are, and on what station can they be found. Thanks
  17. I do. I also think this team is capable of a one-game-and-out performance as well. Again you can look at history. A couple of underachieving teams go a long way (1997, 2001. Even 2000). A couple dominating teams die quick deaths (1998, 1999). With the strengths and weaknesses this team has, I'm not predicting anything. It's a one-game-at-a-time ride and enjoy it as long as possible.
  18. I was thinking if you have to go to MI this might be the year to do it, though. Maybe I'd rather go there than Mariucci against the gophs.
  19. I agree you want to have the goalie situation straight at this time of year. Blais admitted as much in his comments. Before we go off the deep end, Lucia just alternated his goalies this weekend and said in today's paper I think he may be alternating them now too. So he's late in the year and not set either. It happens, unfortunately, and in the case of MN Weber has been THE guy since November. That said, I think there might be merit to the question on how the decisions of who to play in net and when is playing with the confidence of the goalies. But what do I know.
  20. PCM, good comment about Spiewak being the only one talking after the game. What a stand-up guy and I'm glad we have guys like that on the team. I expect a different effort from here on out from this team. I have faith in the leadership on this team. They learned a lesson this weekend too, I believe. Maybe the outcome at Denver won't be different, but I'll be the effort is.
  21. I didn't "invite you over" lest anyone think I went on Parise on Ice and suggested you come post. Never happened. I will agree I welcomed goofer fans to post on our board. I do find it interesting, WPoS that you rag on fans of other teams posting similar stuff on Parise on Ice yet you find it acceptable to act that way on our board. Still, I think we just got outplayed and out-efforted on Sat. Sad game for the home town boys and I hope this is a character building exp. Now, to address comments about goaltending. Goon, forecheck is trying to make clear there is a difference between being critical of someone's play and attacking them personally. I think most of us on this board have at one time or another been critical of someone's play. But it doesn't mean we don't support them. However, that is different than a personal attack. Forecheck just feels "sievebida" isn't the way she would agree to criticize someone's play, and I agree with her. That doesn't mean we don't agree with you on his play, or lack of performance. That doesn't mean we want to settle for sub-par performance. As for those of you who feel the coaching staff has "forgotten" to recruit good goalies, how can you think that? Tell me how many of those 90-93% save percentage goalies that are out there and how many teams are vying for them at any time. Do you think the Sioux are the only team? I'm as frustrated as you that the Sioux don't have better goaltending this year, and I have concerns for the future as well, but the coaches JOBS are riding on putting a winning team on the ice. Hard to believe they wouldn't be trying to address any weakness they could.
  22. Don't count on me, forecheck. I mean, it would be fun but seriously, the way I could flop around out there I'm liable to injure someone with my stick.
  23. Sorry, PCM. The first part of that post was addressed to BigGreyAnt, not you.
  24. I must not have been clear. I'm quite aware he can't come back to play in college if he leaves. What I was asking is, considering the strike is considered a very real possibility, will that entice players to leave earlier, or will it help keep players in school a little longer. PCM, I saw that interview. However I was at Senser's in Bloomington and the sound was down. Didn't HEAR it. That sounds ominous.
