This is interesting. I saw a picture in one of the recent articles about this issue where a protestor is holding a sign saying something like "What if Priests were used as mascots". I'm Roman Catholic, and faithful. I have to think about this for a while but right off the bat I'm not sure that would be a problem for me, at least it would depend on how it is used, etc. However, aren't their teams with the nicknames of the Friars, and what about the San Diego Padres?

I can't really argue against you Scott. You make a good point. I wish we would hear someone in that level of authority painting the side of the picture for everyone.

I hesitate to say this because I am only going from memory, but I thought I had read a comment from Kupchella within the last couple months where he actually expressed a point of view that inferred (to me) that he was not as sympathetic to the name change cause as I had originally thought. I forget what he said and I'm not sure even where/if I could find it at this time, but I wish I could. I think it had to do with something about how the name change group had not convinced him that using the nickname was causing negative reaction to the Sioux community, and that he thought it would be much better for understanding to grow between both sides of the issue and learn to work together to make it a positive. However, don't quote me on that. Maybe someone else will remember??

A buddy of mine and his brother were at the game wearing Sioux jerseys. They said a couple of St. Cloud fans came to them during the game and apologized to them for the protestors and showed their support for UND. I thought that was pretty classy.

I'd like to see HER letter. Wonder what their complaint is......

Prior to the Mn game, I watched on FSN the tour that Blais gave of the new arena. I have to say when he got to pointing out all of the Indian Head logos on the carpet I cringed a little. It just didn't seem quite right to be walking on them. However, in reading this article, I did not think of the seal of our nation, etc that is also on the carpet at the White House, etc etc as Strinden pointed out. At this point I would say I am somewhat neutral on that, though to be honest, I still feel somewhat uncomfortable about stepping on someone's face. And this is from a VERY solid supporter of the keeping the name.
