    Optimism

I'm optimistic about the upcoming season for a number of reasons already mentioned by others, and if for no other reason than it is the start of another NEW season and that is always FUN! Acknowledging the goalie question, I think our top line forwards will be as good as anyone in the country. I think D will be solid. I think the season MIGHT just come down to offensive depth. Do we have guys who WILL put the biscuit in the basket on the 3rd and 4th lines? What impact would it have on the team to see Canady score 8-9 goals, Hale score 10, Genoway score 12?
  2. Leadership positions should not necessarily be given on the merit of offensive production. No doubt Hale had a disappointing offensive year but that, in my mind, does not render him an ineffective leader. How he handles himself and others during this time is what cuts the mustard. Considering Lundbohm is a guy who sporadically needed a kick in the pants occasionally his first couple of years, from my recollection, to nominate him captain seems premature. Now, I'm not around the team so I'm willing to admit he could be a fine leader at this time. Just basing my opinion on what we saw early on in his career.
  3. Porter's going to look awfully slow................ My picks are Ryan Hale = C Andy Schneider = A Parise or McMahon = A
  4. Will admit I've been there but don't frequent. Funkley. If they close the bar, they lose their tax revenue to plow the streets.
  5. It's hunting opener in MN and I'm ticked because we can't seem to pick up the game via radio in Northome, MN
  6. I don't think so. I think one of the writers is but think it is farther east. Don't quote me though.
  7. I'm no expert nor am I familiar with all of the names on that list. But most of them I have at least seen some info on over the past year or so and seems to me they are mostly of an offensive nature. Therefore, I wonder if the defensemen's defenseman just didn't make that list.
  8. Good for Kevin. The Wings might become my second favorite team if they are careful.
  9. I doubt either of them come with the credentials to make that list. That doesn't mean they can't be great goalies. Just don't think they come with the junior hockey pedigree that others do...
  10. What a great idea to get the best midget teams to play at the Ralph. First of all it will just be good hockey to watch, and secondly a pretty good idea to have the good midget recruits get a gander at the hockey palace. Nice!
  11. This seems close enough to me http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforkshe...ald/6626450.htm
  12. I would likely be starting the better of either Parise or Ziegelmann. Why? I likely would have suspended Brandt for several games.
  13. If he can play like Jason we'll take him!
  14. NDH, you need to read back in this thread a little ways for your answer....
  15. Heisenberg still has Sedevie on the list too, though.
  16. If Brandt is not suspended, there's no reason he couldn't start opening day. My guess, if he's not suspended, and if he's the best goalie in camp he'll be in the nets in the first game. Yikes, I get visions of the scene from Full Metal Jacket where the guys go after the kid who keeps screwing up with bars of soap wrapped in their towels
  17. It's actually good to hear from you again. I was wondering where you got lost to over the summer. I would like to see Connelly back some day. I know things hadn't probably gone his way to this point but I was always pulling for him and I'd like to see him turn it on again on the ice. BTW, don't spread that rumor about Blais telling him he can come back and play. It would ruin the fantasies of certain gopher fans who would like to believe Blais beheads his players when he tires of them.
  18. With the developments in MPLS with the gopher goalie situation this scouting report by young Mr. Foyt maybe becomes a bit more relevant.
  19. That's bad news to me because I always liked the little waterbug on ice. Did he quit quit or is he concentrating on studies or? I.e. Could we see him again in the future?
  20. Goofers are the team to beat. Sioux have a chance. The team will score goals. Will we keep enough out of the net? I believe if you bought a Final Five "package" last year you will receive a mailer (hope you're at the same address) asking if you want to renew for the upcoming year. I have for several years now and I think it is pretty much automatic. Let's just hope our team shows this year at "The Five". It's been 2 dry years and the Final Five is fun but not nearly so much as it is when the Sioux are competing for the championship. Yes, I know we made it last year but frankly the Thurs night loss to plucky Duluth blew.....If you were walking from the Target Center to the Radisson? in downtown Mpls in 2000 singing In Heaven There Is No Beer with the band playing you know of what I speak. I say watch out for Duluth this year. I think that's the one team that has a chance to really show up under the radar.
  21. I haven't yet seen a Sioux goal I thought was "garbage".
