Goofers are the team to beat. Sioux have a chance. The team will score goals. Will we keep enough out of the net? I believe if you bought a Final Five "package" last year you will receive a mailer (hope you're at the same address) asking if you want to renew for the upcoming year. I have for several years now and I think it is pretty much automatic. Let's just hope our team shows this year at "The Five". It's been 2 dry years and the Final Five is fun but not nearly so much as it is when the Sioux are competing for the championship. Yes, I know we made it last year but frankly the Thurs night loss to plucky Duluth blew.....If you were walking from the Target Center to the Radisson? in downtown Mpls in 2000 singing In Heaven There Is No Beer with the band playing you know of what I speak. I say watch out for Duluth this year. I think that's the one team that has a chance to really show up under the radar.

Look, I don't know anything about Foyt. But maybe he's just not D1 material. Could be he's walking on to the UND team, and UND is the likely choice because his good friend Bochenski is already there. If he's got the moxie to warrant an academic scholarship, then he could go where he wants, likely. Why not to where your good friend is playing in one of the finest facilities to be found? Just conjecturing, but it fits the picture.

Schneider Fuher Jones Greene Marvin Smaby Bina Foyt? Dahlen? My gut says Dahlen is not a factor based on the info above and the fact there has been zero "smoke" (i.e. where there's smoke there's fire) on him all summer. If I'm wrong, and if Foyt is coming as it looks, then there are 9. But 8 without Dahlen. Another reason I think the signs point to him not being included on the roster.

Dahlen may not be in the picture any longer. Remember last year it was reported he quit practicing with the team half-way through the year to concentrate on school. The signee thing could be just a choice of words which may or may not actually reflect reality. I don't have any knowledge one way or another on this situation. Whoever wrote the story may not often write about these situations and therefore not be too choosy about the words they use. It would be surprising if Blais still had $ to give at this point in the year, I would think.

Don't mean to take anything away from what you said, but I don't think Blais and Brooks were team mates. Brooks, I think, was Blais coach for a year. And Blais was an assistant under Brooks. Most likely Blais picked up things from Brooks and not the other way around. Regardless, it appears there was a high level of mutual respect shared by the two based on what I have been reading.

Hey, in that picture is Spehar giving the "V" for victory sign? That's a great video replay. Spehar can't get up. I think Blake gives him a little business, but not too much because it would be obvious. Finally, as the camera moves away so see Blais bending over to give Spehar a hand. Beautiful!

He's lauded as being very good at motivating his players. Looks like he handled his players in a very blunt manner. Interesting that Blais was influenced so much by Brooks, but many of the same people would be critical of Blais approach. However, I believe many of Blais players would also say he is an excellent motivator and a great coach.

I think it is reasonable for you to expect to make the FF easily. I gag at all the three-peat crap. It's that time of the year again. Don't try turning this one around Handy . While I won't go so far as to say what UM did was "classless" (because I would have laughed my arse off if UND did that back to UM for instance), it is the kind of thing that helps strengthen rivalries and brings character to the sport. Personally I love hating MN for these kinds of reasons. The sport wouldn't be as much fun if it was more antiseptic.

From today's Herald: ROSEAU, Minn. - UND goalie Jake Brandt pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to a charge of misdemeanor theft in Roseau County District Court. A pretrial hearing has been set for 1 p.m. on Aug. 25. Brandt is accused of stealing $200 worth of pull-tabs from the Roseau Eagles Club during normal operating hours on July 12. He faces a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine. Coach Dean Blais said he will wait until the case is settled before determining whether Brandt will be suspended. Brandt, a Roseau native, started 19 games for the Sioux last season. He had four shutouts and posted an 11-4-4 record.
