  1. I'm hardly trying to play thread police here. I'm as guilty as the next guy of carrying on an argument too long just for the sake of arguing, or trying to get in the last word. I'd just like to say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, isn't it? Some of these threads need to fade away. The arguments are so beaten to death they're dusty. The reason I made this post was because I saw someone who now wants to go log on to POI and post some of the same crap we feel we're getting from some gopher fans on this board. What, really, will be accomplished? These boards, SS and POI, are enjoyable to read and interact on. But the depth of the crap you have to wade through the last few days is really taking the enjoyment out of it. I speak for myself but will guess others agree with me. The points still being debated will NEVER be resolved any more than they are already. Let's spend more time focusing on what's coming up, less on what has happened. Let's NOT go post a bunch of crap on someone else's board because we think we got that from some of their fans. Other than one, maybe 2 posters on that "other" board we've been rather well behaved. In the words of the immortal Dennis Green, let's keep to the high road. If some of them want to have a tea party and gossip about us they can do that. Let's not invite ourselves into it. (steps off soapbox)
  2. The nice thing is us fans have the luxury of looking forward while the players don't. That said, jk brings some good perspective to Friday's game.
  3. I think the last thing we need is a mascot. About the only mascot I've seen that is any good is Goldy, rip me if you want. When we were in Duluth before the first game my son (9 yrs old) was watching their 2 mascots and finally turned to me and said "Dad, aren't the mascots supposed to be doing funny stuff?".
  4. This has been in the back of my mind for a couple of days and so thought I'd better clarify just in case someone took me for serious. Obviously my buddy was putting words in Prpich's mouth as there is no way we could actually hear what was being said from across the rink. FYI
  5. Handy I was one who is critical of Taylor, but I'm not denying Prp and Greene, and if you asked the gopher fan who sat by us he would attest to that. It's just that they are on OUR team and not yours. Therefore, we spend more time complaining about your GOONS and talk about our HARD NOSED PLAYERS. Other than that, I'm not going to take issue with your post. In fact, I agree with most of it. What is up with all the crap on these boards? Most of these threads have been beaten to death. Actually, what I think is everyone is just feeding off the last post and trying to come up with something "worse". Oh, and Chopper, it's hardly different on your board. I know you like to think so, but it's not. Please go back and tell everyone I said so. Thanks!
  6. I agree Brandt plays out the string. It's four games only.
  7. TC_Transplant is one of you. FYI
  8. My guess is if we lose some forwards early you'll see Mr. Spirko next year. If we are fortunate enough to keep our talented forwards, then Mr. Spirko will have another year in the USHL.
  9. I like the "east west" talk about Spirko's skating ability. We can use some more of that on our team to blend with our larger physical players. Will be fun to see him play. Too bad we didn't land Bertram but sounds as if we weren't in the list of finalists. At least we don't have to listen to our maroon and gold brothren next door crow about their new recruit.

    No. Me too. Same reasons.
  11. Actually? No. We won the Final Five that year. We lost the FF in 2001 to SCSU and then lost to BC in the "other" FF.
  12. Except for a situation I've related elsewhere all the gopher fans around us were fine enough to be around. A few dorks on the walk out after the game but you expect that from them
  13. Somebody somewhere asked why Sioux fans have a hard one for Taylor. It's because so far other than see him pushing with Stafford, we've mostly seen him trying to whale on little guys like Murray. The littler they are, the more time he seems to spend with them. Big tough guy.
  14. We saw both Vanek and Ballard liberally applying the stick after the whistle. In the chippy first period after Vanek smacked somebody over the noodle with his Prpich skated over and had a few words with him. From across the rink my buddy was able to hear exactly what Prp was saying "You wanna hit somebody? You go ahead and try me....I'm going to be here ALL night."
  15. Yeah, but all those 21 penalties were in 5 games with the Sioux.

I'm happy to hear from people who have actually seen more games than I that Matt G's game saturday was not the norm. My opinion on whether Matt is ready for the big show is immaterial. He's still a huge (pun intended) asset to our team.

If Sandy stays at Duluth you'll be still waiting for them to "go away" 8-9 yrs from now.

Stapleton played against MN, however. Not against UAA.

I guess I was surprised as well.
  20. I find it funny that Sioux fans are being ridiculed elsewhere for complaining about the MVP choice when many of the alternate suggestions here are Gophers.
  21. Sort of like how Berlin was in the middle of East Germany, Senser's is a bit of Sioux hockey in the middle of the TC. Too bad for you. Thanks a ton to Joe Senser's for making Sioux Hockey available to die hards down here in the TC.

Greene is certainly a physical presence on the ice, but isn't part of being a defenseman being able to move the puck well out of the zone? It seems to me Matt could stand to work on how to move the puck from behind the net, as well as better choices of passing it in front of the net. Aside from Vanek's goal on Saturday, we thought Matt made some less that best choices behind the net on which way to throw the puck around the boards. Maybe it was the system and where the puck was supposed to go but it seemed to us at times he'd have 2 choices and often chose to throw it with the backhander which only made it to his target half the time. Had he thrown it the other way on his forehand I've no doubt it would have made it to the forward at the half-wall. I repeat, there may have been a reason for this that I'm not aware of. But to me puck movement is an area he could yet work on before he has to do so against more skilled players.
