Sounds to me this is a byproduct of the warm and fuzzies who decided we needed to hand out Championship trophies to every school at the end of the year. As the article said, by breaking up the schools into too many tiers, they created large gaps of teams that had to be eligible to make the playoffs (due to a shortage of teams overall). If there were more teams in a class, they could more easily institute record requirements to keep the 1-19 team from playing the 22-4 team and getting beat 27-0 in hockey. Yes, there would be fewer teams making a state tournament but there is still a balance. Now there are multiple teams making the state tournaments and more state champions. Everyone is happy, until we find out that we now have poor teams getting hammered and embarrassed. Look at the debris in the road from our drive to reward more "Champions".

Bochenski has fit in as well as any other student athlete in the 3 years he's been in college. Unless someone was filling in the voters with candidate's past indiscretions I don't think they would even know about it. My guess is Bo was the leader until his "light" spell the l last few weeks) and if he could have kept up the scoring pace he would win. Maybe he still will, who knows? Bochenski is a heck of a player, and much more than a goal scorer this year. He's played better defense, played on the pk, dropped to block shots, etc. He's a man among boys at times on the ice. He's deserving.

Actually, I think it has unlikely that the Sioux will play on Friday afternoon. I believe the formula has the #1/#4 seed game on Friday night, and the #2/#3 game on Friday afternoon. The only thing that messes that up is that the Gophers get the night game automatically as has been discussed. However, this year, the Gophers won't be either a #2 or #3 seed unless something really funky happens to WI or Duluth during the first round of the playoffs. The Sioux will be a #1 seed for the Final Five. While it is not out of the question, it is highly unlikely a scenario would arise that would put the Gophers into a #2 or #3 seed for the Final Five. Therefore, the Sioux will be playing on Friday night.

Why would Blais tell Mason he made the wrong call on a goal? Mason would have had a better view of the play than Blais. Blais may think it was the wrong call, but you better be awfully certain you are right before you beg a goal to be taken from you. Blown calls are part of the game. If you have a call go against you, you can't expect the other team to go to bat for you. If a similar situation happened later in the game, do you think the Tech coach or team would reciprocate? You don't know. You let the refs make the calls. You complain when you think you got screwed. You know they won't change the call.

Hennessy talking to Blais on pregame. Dean says he doesn't really know how to read the team and doesn't know what to expect tonite. Doesn't know if they will pay the price to pay well tonite or not. Said the guys on the bench last night said "let's play for Jake now" once the game was wrapped up but said Bochenski was on the ice and didn't hear it and took a bad penalty that lead to the goal. Keeping Bochenski on with Parise line, and playing Tyler P for Fabian tonite. Said Tyler is playing well in practice and has a chance to finish the year on the ice if he shows he can play well. Dean says whoever can play well is who he will play, not give preference to upperclassmen, etc.

I believe the Cup belongs to Tech. They can take their Cup and go home if they want to.

Listening to Tim and the color guy after the game they are talking about the McNaughton being the toughest award to win in the year. Tim is saying that these days the NCAA Championship is considered to be the topmost award, but in days past that winning the McNaughton was considered the most difficult and paramount accomplishment. What do people think these days? I first became aware of Sioux hockey in the mid-80's. Seemed to me we were always focused on winning national championships. What do people consider the most important accomplishments? I see 3, and I would rate them in this order. How about you? 1. NCAA Championship 2. McNaughton Cup 3. Broadmoor. I used to think the Broadmoor was in 2nd place here until a few years ago when I realized that, for the most part, it is meaningless. Curious what others think. (I think I'll have another beer.)

Great way for the Sioux to rip away the McNaughton at the end of the season. Dominated Tech tonite. Too bad Jake didn't get the shutout but that's a small part of the story tonite. Sioux stumble a bit near the end of the season, but get well again at Mankato and really make a statement last week at Duluth and then win it outright in convincing fashion tonite. I was one who fell victim to doubting our goaltending after Wisconsin but give the boys, especially Jake, credit for rebounding quickly. I don't believe this team exhausted themselves to get the Cup. We'll see what happens in the games to come but I think this team is on the top of its game and I can't wait for the following games. WAY TO GO SIOUX!!!!!!!!!!!

Iceberg, call me a prude if you wish. I can handle most any of the most vulgar terms (and use a lot of them myself) but the one you've used twice is tough for me to read.

Roger Thomas talking about the fan conduct issue. Says the NCAA is big on this issue right now. Lots of national press exposure so they want to clean it up. Says our fans are good but at times have been over the line. Seems to be saying most of the fan behavior is great but a small percentage of it is over the line and gives a bad impression. Says UND is by far not the worst offenders in this situation. He just doesn't want UND to get hurt in getting regionals. Especially since we have the nickname issue already he wants to walk a fine line. Says there are other schools where they say they don't want to send their athletes into environments that are over the line. So wants to make sure UND isn't looked at in that manner. But wants to find a way to get the WHOLE arena up and cheering loud.
