On the radio before last night's MN/SCSU game they interviewed coach Dahl. They were asking him what might have been the key to the recent good play by SCSU. He said that they weren't doing a lot of the same old drills, but playing a lot of "small area games" and keeping score. The guys were apparently responding well to this, really enjoying it, and they've been having good success since that time. Dahl went on to say that Gwoz said last year Denver did these "small area games" end of January and all of Feb (a time Denver was very very hot) and he credited those games for their hot streak. Dahl said he decided he'd do the same in the future. So, my question is, what are "small area games". From the interview, it sounded like these are things more commonly used with kids, not college players.

MN now up 4-1 on St. Cloud. All I know is I hope Montgomery gets a game in the nets next weekend. Whoa. Here's why I like Woog on the broadcast. Last night he was ripping the gophers for not being able to pass the puck effectively. Tonite he was ripping Irmen for crying to the refs and called out a penalty that should have been called on the gophers that wasn't. Sure, he's a homer, but he's not afraid to tell it like it is.

We saw that at times in past years too. I'm not knowledgeable enough to comment on whether it was a good idea or not. Sometimes though, it does seem that a team that has been attacking and winning changes to a more defensive posture and suddenly the other team starts scoring.

Got to watch the last 16 minutes at Senser's. Looked like the Sioux had the stall on. Continually icing the puck. Made for tough hockey to watch but I'll take the win and not complain. Some else said this but I'll repeat it. Seemed like the Badgers kept shooting into Parise's chest, but I know you have to give Jordan credit for being in the right place, and not giving the shooter the belief he has anything to shoot at. Something else....not much for rebounds, and how key is THAT? I didn't see the first period you all talked about, but seemed like Jordan saved the game in the 3rd. Sconnie had way to many good shots at the net for my comfort. To be honest, I'm surprised we got away without them scoring. Some thoughts....great to see Fabian come through with a score. Wish I could see the replays of the goals. We need scoring contributions from the bottom lines. That goal was basically a point in the standings....See what that can do, guys?! Greene came through with a great game in the 3rd I thought. He seemed to be calming Prpich down at one point, made some good plays with the puck, and then potted the risky long open net shot. Lucky or good I don't know but he got it done. It misses the net and there's a faceoff in our own zone... When I got there at the 16 minute mark, the Sioux seemed to be winning the little battles with the puck. But Bucky seemed to take it to the Sioux for some time until near the end when the guys dug down and won some key battles. Sprig, I thought the hook on Porter when he was chasing the puck (was that during Prpich's penalty or was that 5x5?) was a prime example of obstruction that should be called. He would have caught up with that puck had he not been hooked. This is so very encouraging after last Saturday. The way things have been going I'll take a split, but like jk says, when you win Friday you have the chance for the sweep. Let's take our chances tomorrow. Way to go Sioux!

Stick to the score.

I hope they have it on cable...

NICE! That comes up AFTER she loses her goalie. BTW, is the Briggs injury just a smokescreen so you can suit him up for this game? Watch out, forecheck.

It's too convenient that 2 guys from the same high school are all of a sudden "reconsidering". Why would that be? Too coincidental unless the UND coaches ticked off the Moorhead program somehow. Doubt that happened. Secondly, not a rumor made USCHO or GPL, but Dubay suddenly has info? I don't think so. If there's any credibility to this sort of thing, the tapped in posters on GPL would only be so happy to make mention of it, just like SS posters would as well. These posters would have access to this info as fast or faster than Dubay would. Thirdly, I haven't seen any mention of this on the boards since then, which tells me most people know it is b.s. I don't see any smoke. I doubt well find a fire.

Same. Fair or not, I love the FF where I can get to it from my home. So to heck with everyone else. The only real problem I have is the same as yours; they artificially put MN in the night game. That one doesn't seem fair. The chips should fall where they may. If gopher fans want to see their team play, they should take the afternoon off work, just like I do even though I may not even be watching my team. It's good hockey, for goodness sake!

Yeah, we want to know who Sagard asked about this week.
-
I'm not losing sleep over it, if that's what you mean!
-
Yes, but usually playing on the first line you are playing with more skilled players, i.e. more chances to score.

Bulldog fans, I read a note somewhere recently that Caig and Stauffacher haven't had a point since Christmas? The date of this note might have been a week or 2 old. But if so, who would have guessed that? Might be an indication of your problems.

skateshattick I agree with almost all of your post. This statement I don't. I don't think this team has been all that great at transition, passing and catching since this senior class came in 2001. Therefore, the struggles in this area this year don't really surprise me. On a different note, I wonder if some point reduction of Murray's, and other players (like Fylling, etc.) might relate to the fact they are NOT on the ice with Parise and Bochenski. Those guys didn't just provide their assists to each other. They set up others, and they scored off other's assists.

By that point you'll still be well behind us.

First the Sioux recruit Canadians, then Lucia does. Now the goalie thing...

Kaip Interview in the GF Herald Impact on the team: Good news for Rylan: Good luck, Rylan.

I remember on Saturday's game updates it was posted that Brady appeared to reinjure his shoulder and came off the ice visibly frustrated. He returned for his next shift, but maybe there was more to it after all.

Oh my gosh. I was SO close to subscribing last weekend too. What a joke that service is.
-
Friend? Oh, yeah, that's falling through too.
-
Thanks, I suspected that was the case. However, they don't make those differentiations on the FS website, so it became confusing. They list Fox Sports North as the Wisconsin version. crapola

According to Fox Sports North website the games WILL be on this weekend for those of us with cable. Fox Sports North Programming Ok, now I'm confused. I can't find the Gophers-Huskies series except on Fox College Sports Central (whatever that is). Gophers-Huskies Investigating further, I really have no idea if this game can be seen on FSN in Minneapolis. The Fox Sports website lists Badger sports for their Fox Sports North region, but in Minneapolis they must throw in the Gopher programming. That means I don't have any way to know if the Sioux game will be on or not. I'd delete this thread but apparently I can't. So my confusion is now public for all to laugh at.

Supertrex, you make many good points. I agree with you. On Hak, the only thing I'll say is that Hak didn't design the search process. I don't think we should hold him accountable for a process he didn't design. Hak should be as accountable as any other coach who could have been hired. If John Marks or Steve Johnson was selected and the team was in the same position today, would we be calling for their head? If so, then our reaction to Hak is justified. If not, then we are holding Hak to a different standard based solely on how he was hired. And how he was hired is not his fault. Roger Thomas should be accountable for that, and he's on his way out the back door. Only other thing I would have to say is this: Likely the new AD is going to want to be in place for a while before making any decisions on coaches, etc. Even if we think Hak's not the right coach, I can't see anything happening before a year or 2 anyway as the new AD evaluates the whole situation. I'm still a supporter of Hak as I see the younger players doing well, responding well, and contributing. I see Blais' guys not holding up. Hak's got a very good class coming next year and a decent start for '06. Add to that no change in coaching for a while anyway and I'm just not going to get into the worrying about whether we have the right coach right now. Hak will prove over the next year or 2 if he's the guy.

Taz, that's one of my all-time favorites and you bring it up at the right time. I needed to see that again.
