He was disciplined by the Nevada gaming commission or something like that, but always maintained that his infraction was a lack of good judgement vs. a celebration of nazism. I believe there was some sort of investigation (FBI??) which turned up nothing out of the ordinary. Again, I'm going off of memory of what I've read on message boards and articles found on the internet so some of this may not be perfectly accurate but the I think it gives a sense of the story that Coleman is trying to play up. PCM has, in the past, had very good information in much greater detail.

I believe D Hale had a very good offer after his sophomore year but he returned, almost to his detriment. I think someone here said Matt Jones could have left after his junior year too, but I'm going off what I've read here. It's not that no one ever comes back, but when you have the big opportunity staring at you it's got to be hard to turn away. And looking at what happened to D Hale his junior year, you can't blame anyone for taking the bird in hand.

Stafford was also a pretty high draft pick, was he not? Pretty hard to say for sure that there is that much seperation between the two of them when Toews hasn't even played a game yet. I know I'm a mental midget, but I'll be happy if he's similar to Stafford in stats by the end of the year.

Of the discussions you and I have had on this the last couple of days this one I find the most difficult to understand. I just don't see how UND having the nickname Sioux causes poor treatment of Native Americans. Your comments above imply (at least to me) that the Sioux nickname is one cause of these problems and that eradicating the nickname is the first step in the process of fixing them. I just don't see that. Now, I won't disagree that there are racist people. I won't disagree there are people who "just don't get it". We've seen some of those comments posted in these discussions. I just don't see the nickname as the cause of that. In the end I'm either right, or I'm ignorant. Maybe in time I'll understand my ignorance, but I'm looking for it now and not seeing it (ok, everyone, take your shots! ) I know many years ago people thought it was just fine to sit blacks in the back of the bus and not serve them at restaurants. Now society understands these issues better. Racism still exists but overall we've come a long way. Will that happen with the nickname issue? I still just don't see how the nickname is causing these problems.

1. I can see your point if you want to boil this issue down to just whether Sioux should be used as a nickname. However, names like Redskins, Indians, etc cross tribal boundaries and in those cases we see some conflicting information on whether they are acceptable or not. 2. Just because leaders make a decision, it doesn't mean it has to speak for the people. Yes, they may be elected but it doesn't mean every decision the leader makes represents the attitude of the people. 3. Fair enough. We know nothing about what questions were asked in the poll you cite, or how they were asked. As your quoted source says above, he's inclined to believe the source that agrees with his position, I am free to do the same.
