Please explain that to me. I keep hearing about all this Sioux culture that is so spiritual and I can't understand it. I'd like to know what about my Catholic faith you don't understand when you make that comment......

Good. So we can keep the name and do away with the logo. That's all that's necessary? FSU has an actual mascot. Isn't that a bit more caricaturish than our logo. Yet the Seminoles actually support FSU. So, potentially, the Seminoles are just more......progressive? All right. I can at least understand the last part. But I find it hard to believe that having more Seminole students would actually change how the Seminole tribe looks at the use of the name. You insinuate that it takes educated American Indians to understand the issue. No, I think anyone can recognize racism and oppression when they feel it. I think somewhere in past discussions on this board it was said that the polls that showed the majority of American Indians had no issue with these nicknames were not an accurate reflection because those polls included so many Indians who didn't live on reservations. Seems like the more people understand the WHOLE culture of the country they live in, the better they get along.

There's no doubt about it. But did Brian Lundbohm come in with the potential that Toews has? Nope. I don't disagree that it was fun to watch the new players at that time, but I doubt there was quite the anticipation as there is with more of the players we are currently bringing in. Even at that time, if Blais was bringing in recruits we trusted in the players he found. I argue there are many D1 programs where the fans don't experience the level of anticipation UND fans do. I'm not putting UND at the top of the heap here either. There are a number of teams, not exclusively MN, BC, MI, etc etc who I would say would be very similar.

CRR, I've been thinking the same thing. I would love another Prpich-type player. Someone with grit and intensity who loves to play the game. What I love about Prp is he always has a smile on his face. Those guys are rare. Did you ever see Murray with a smile on his face? Prp ALWAYS is smiling. Jeff Panzer was always smiling, even at the end of the game and the pressure was on. Those guys are great to have on the team. I don't like what I read about Zajac going to sleep if he doesn't score right away, but that's also the comments from the opposing coach. Possibly those are more objective, or possibly they are less informed. We may have a chance to find out.

hard to argue with much of what you said except for your nickname suggestion. Ugh! Someone else mentioned it and it makes sense to me. Go without a nickname for an indefinite amount of time. At some point in the future people like me will be more willing to accept a new nickname.

Hey, I've been married for 13 years and my wife would say she's still waiting.

As much as I hate to see favorite seniors moving on, every fall I'm just as excited if not more excited to see the new prospects come in. They don't all work out, but it's a lot of fun to anticipate their arrival and watch how they do. I think we're fortunate to be a fan of a team like North Dakota, who has a track record of bringing in exciting recruits. Can't imagine it is quite as much fun for fans of some other teams who are bringing in 2nd tier recruits for the most part.

Why are other tribes like the Seminoles, Utes, Chippewa, etc just fine with nicknames and the Sioux aren't? Tell us what is different about the Sioux? Why are they so much more "oppressed" by this? Considering how UND treats the nickname vs. FSU, tell me how it is abusive in comparison?

There's a simple solution to this and you know it. Quit looking for misplaced victimization and hit the books.

I think the biggest thing is the NCAA is dying to hold anyone to this ridiculous ruling, and felt they just couldn't give another exemption, especially since we're not one of the big schools. They had to hold firm somewhere to attempt to keep a shred of credibility.

I like the Sicatoka's idea of the team wearing a jersey that says nothing but "Hostile and Abusive" on it. Of course, mksioux is right, Hak won't create a distraction with the jersey, but I'm rethinking my idea about wearing my Sioux gear. Maybe I'll have to have an overlay for my jersey.

I will say that over on GPL there's a nice population of Gopher fans willing to stand up and say that even though they hate Fighting Sioux sports teams (think hockey) they think UND is getting the shaft and the NCAA is out of line.

I say wear either a white or green jersey. Totally blank except for numbers.
