  1. Sagard is a "hang around the Ralph" Gopher fan.
  2. Good job Bob Robb of Shakopee. From today's Star Trib: Get the Facts on Fighting Sioux Logo
  3. I, too, appreciate the links. It is very helpful in keeping up to date on various perspectives.
  4. And we might need them ALL next year.
  5. I agree. I've never quite grasped why removing "Fighting" from the nickname should make it better.
  6. It's likely that they've been under tremendous pressure to change, especially since the FSU appeal.
  7. I noted PCM's comment about there being departures yet this summer. I took that (hopefully) that he meant in college hockey, not just at UND. Now your comment. A fella gets to gettin' nervous. Any more to this than you shared above?
  8. That's exactly my point. I DO vote. And the people I vote for don't ALWAYS do things I think they should. And the people who get elected that I DIDN'T vote for don't always do what I think they should either. I think BOTH situations are relevant.
  9. You never know the story about "injury prone". Until knowing about what kind of injuries he sustained and how he sustained them, it's hard to know if it's really a problem with the player, or just bad luck.
  10. Fortunately, Vernon Bellecourt's opinion really doesn't matter. Weren't we told that UND shouldn't use the logo because the artist was Ojibway? and not Sioux Indian? Therefore, I guess Bellecourt's opinion isn't relative to this discussion either.
  11. I would expect the coaches are recruiting Forney. Nearly a local guy, and sounds like he is coming along as a very good prospect. We could use some good forwards to offset expected future losses.
  12. Then you also know that an elected official who is elected to speak on behalf of their constituents often speak in a voice much different from that of the majority of their constituents. And this is something you learn in the school of hard knocks.
  13. This gives me a ray of hope, though I am still worried that the NCAA is only trying to wriggle out from under the pressue of the big time schools and will try to save face with the smaller schools. And I'm afraid they will ignore any criticism about not being consistent, as will other supporters of nickname censorship. Why? Because they'll take anything they can get and call it a victory.
  14. It should be a green button right next to the "quote" button on the bottom right corner of your message. Once your message is posted you should see it.

    Robbie Bina

IMO that's great news for Robbie. It's hard for me to conceive how well and seemingly quickly his neck was repaired and is healing considering what happened to it. Good luck, Robbie. I hope things continue to go well.
  16. Good question. I'd guess burying their head firmly in the sand on this one.
  17. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
  18. I have two very close friends who would be pictured by the definition of "bleeding heart liberal" in the dictionary, and at lunch the other day both surprised me by wondering what all the fuss was over UND's nickname. In fact, the one thought it was something for the Native Americans to be proud of. Both, at the same time, abhor the Chief Yahoo logo and the Redskins nickname.
  19. I wasn't sure if anyone would get that!
  20. Oh, so now you're touting your OWN stuff now.
  21. I have Time Warner too, but I get OLN. Maybe they can get Paul Sherwin and Phil Liggett to do the hockey pbp and commentary and listen to some liggettisms.
  22. No. Why stop doing what is right out of spite? You win in the long run when your behavior is above that of your opponent.
  23. They miked Parise?
  24. Others can tell you more. Ralph was a collector of WWII memorabilia and certainly had a large collection of Nazi stuff. He had one or 2 parties to celebrate Hitlers' birthday. He was disciplined by the Nevada gaming commission or something like that, but always maintained that his infraction was a lack of good judgement vs. a celebration of nazism. I believe there was some sort of investigation (FBI??) which turned up nothing out of the ordinary. Again, I'm going off of memory of what I've read on message boards and articles found on the internet so some of this may not be perfectly accurate but the I think it gives a sense of the story that Coleman is trying to play up. PCM has, in the past, had very good information in much greater detail.
