  1. Rocco Grimaldi and Tyler Kleven and Team USA advance to the semifinals at the World Championships. https://www.iihf.com/en/events/2023/wm/news/45034/usa-cze Semifinals have been a curse in the past. Perhaps this is the year. Also hoping Grimaldi's play puts him in contention for Olympic consideration. He seems very well suited for the international game.
  2. We're thinking "better to play Badgers Rodents Purple Cows and Rat Dogs early." They are thinking "better to play North Dakota early."
  3. If I squint a little I can connect that the Arizona Coyotes are the oldest NHL franchise never to appear in the Stanley Cup finals. Need better ownership, better senior leadership, and obviously a real NHL arena. (and yeah maybe they jointly build with ASU which would be fine; ASU basketball certainly needs a new home).
  4. Alex Pietrangelo will be getting a call from Player Safety tomorrow. I've never seen a slash like that - brings the stick vertical, then down onto Dreisatl's wrist. Predicting he gets 3 playoff game suspension. Maybe more. That was another message-sending penalty by Vegas. Let's see if we can screw up Edmonton's goalie. And it follows directly the Edmonton instigation of a fight, so no surprise there.
  5. "The more medicated the more dedicated." - Snoop Dogg
  6. After Bennett Brien's masterpiece, ANY logo would have a tough act to follow.
  7. Congratulations, again, to Dave Hakstol, on this historic nomination. Reviewing the 50 years of Jack Adams Award (aka coach of the year), I see 3 past winners with a connection to NCAA hockey: Red Berenson (Michigan, ew), Dave Tippett (UND, great guy), Rod Brind'Amour (Michigan State). None of them coached in NCAA first, and then went on to coach in the NHL. Which would make Hakstol the first to succeed on that path. Or, if Jim Montgomery wins, he coached NCAA before NHL too.
  8. Toughest lead in hockey (pools) is a 25 point lead.
  9. So ... both Florida and Seattle maintained their Road Ice Advantage after game 1.
  10. If not for the President's Cup Curse, I might agree.
  11. Congratulations to Dave Hakstol on his first playoff win as an NHL Head Coach!
  12. The WCHA POTY was Tim Harrer of the Gophers, another in a long line of Gopher forwards who never got close enough to his own goalie to even say hi. Sounds vaguely familiar. He may have benefitted in national media by being Cyclone Taylor's grandson.
  13. Thanks for posting! Brings back a lot of great memories. First week of school, fall 1979, and at a party where Doug Smail and Mark Taylor were both there. (Neither drinking, by the way.) I expressed surprise that Team Canada hadn't been smart enough to pick them for their Olympic Team, and both of them gave wry smiles, and said something to the effect of 'we will show them they made a mistake'.
  14. If adding Bowling Green helped create better multi-sport scheduling / games with the MAC (esp FB, BB, VB), I would favor that. Adding Arizona State would help address the perceptions that NCHC is a bunch of small schools, and give NCHC hockey a voice at the table when the P5 are talking rules for D-1. (ASU still seems like a temporary add, in the bigger picture.)
  15. I like your thought process. His article has so many flaws it's hard to know where to start. The first is to frame the question as Miami vs Arizona State. It's broader than that. And that makes it a false choice. The MAC schools (BGSU, Miami and Western Michigan) are in different conferences which creates tension. Why would Western stay if Miami leaves? My bet would be NCHC loses both. And out west, there are other potental entrants to D-1 "likely" - U-Arizona and UNLV at top of list; does that NCHC want to have 2-3-4 schools playing a long way from everywhere else? Not to mention the bigger question of whether Arizona State wants to affiliate with the NCHC; I haven't seen any evidence of that, and broader history of Big Ten-PAC partnerships suggests a Big Ten affiliate membership would be their first choice.
  16. St Cloud fan hops into DeLorean, buys Gray's Sports Almanac 2025-2075. Opens up the page to NCAA Mens Ice Hockey Champions: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
  17. Jack Eichel with his first career playoff goal. Shouldn't surprise me, but it did.
  18. Seattle takes a 3-1 lead in Colorado. 15 minutes to go. Dave Hakstol is ecstatic. (on the inside maybe)
  19. Dear Toronto, better be double-da## sure you are right if you challenge a goal during an opponent's major power play. Sincerely, everyone else. PS Tampa says thanks for the 5x3.
  20. I'm glad we schedule them. First and foremost, as a recruiting tool. The Ralph kinda sells itself. Second, its an exhibition game that doesn't count in PWR so its "extra".
