Schlossman talks about UND and NIL at the 35:20 mark. https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/und-hockey-podcast-how-nil-money-might-affect-ncaa-hockey

Let’s face it, 3 on 3 is a crapshoot that is very unpredictable, about as unpredictable as winning a draw, which it comes down to many times. There isn’t any shame in losing under those circumstances, because there are so many opportunities each way that it basically comes down to puck possession and if your goalie can make a big save to give you possession back.
-
They can’t do anything about that until later, and half these guys weren’t a part of any past losses, except with their previous teams. All they can do is position themselves to get the best advantages they can to help avoid future frustrations, and they are doing way better at that right now than any of us expected this early in the year. They need to keep that up, but they have obviously positioned themselves well up to now, which is all they can do.

You realize we got swept in Denver in 2016 by 4-1 and 6-4. It goes without saying you better play good defense at the right time of year, but in a one and done your goalie can’t have an off game either.
-
Top 6 in the country in goals against having played one of the tougher schedules, compared to a team that simply couldn’t get off the field, that is quite the odd statement.
-
I stand by my comment, you are a mess.
-
The key is always going to be possession when Blake is on the ice because we see the puck decisions on the defensive end aren’t great.
-
You truly are. I think they made the Dr. Pepper fanville commercial about you because you go from one extreme to the other in seconds.
-
This all started with Danny Freund type play calling. MSU had the ball and the lead and running it right at the Bison. They get to 3rd and 1 at their 45 and decide to go empty backfield, then run their quarterback, who promptly is stuffed and gets hurt on the play. I knew it was going to turn after that.
-
The only difference I see is that DU has a goaltending issue and have a few more growing pains on the back end. Denver’s defense seems to have more high end offensive talent that are NHL prospects while ours is just playing sound defensive hockey blocking shots and taking away passing lanes.
-
You just said the same thing, based on one game that I’m sure Denver thought they had won. If UND lost like that it would be all about them not playing 60 minutes and having a killer instinct.
-
UND doesn’t make a habit of it, but watch Blake’s celebration and look at the BU bench after his overtime winning goal.
-
So if we lose tonight the final result proves Denver is better? You go way overboard the other way. Denver has issues to fix, but they have a heck of a lot of talent, especially on the back end.

2023-24 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

Ultimately, that is the difference between winning a lot of games and being stuck on 2 or 3 goals and possibly losing them. Persson has been lights out most nights, but being a bit off tonight we definitely needed having several snipers with their best stuff tonight. -
Actually wish he wouldn’t have thrown it because he will certainly be a target tomorrow night, and we don’t need him injured. But maybe Denver loses their focus by trying to repay the hit too. Probably a good thing Carolina traded Rizzo’s rights to Philadelphia, as it would only add insult to injury if both Blake and Perron would have beaten him out of a job in Carolina.
-
We were only down 3 once by my recollection.
-
Let’s face it, the odds weren’t great, but no reason to throw in the towel and pull Perrson. I think fans put way to much stock in a period, a game, a weekend, and even a small streak one way or another. Whether we got swept this weekend or not, I have seen enough to think we will be a team in the conversation down the road, as will Denver. Other teams have strengths and weaknesses too, so I’ll try not to draw too many conclusions from a small sample size.
-
Yeah, if only some of the fans wouldn’t think the game is over in the first period when down by a few. More often than not, the fans melt down more than the players.
-
So can UND offer players from other schools money for academic performance with the money they now have to distribute, or do they have to perform in the classroom at UND to get the money?
-
More likely, like with Shaugabay and others, waiting to see some work at another level of hockey first. If you look at all the huge stats put up by a lot of players in Minnesota High School hockey and just high school period, I don't blame them. There were some guys that I thought for sure would be producing great guns in the USHL that haven't done much. Guys like Carter Batchelder, Jack Jensen and Cade Ahrenholz were guys that I thought would make a good transition but didn't.
-
Turns out Bubba’s initial press conference about the mother of the opposing quarterback being uncomfortable was pretty far from the reality, even with sending everybody.
-
Cole Bumgarner with 4 goals tonight against Moorhead. Rogers won 6-2.
-
Why don’t they all just workout and sleep in the high altitude chamber at the Ralph, it would save money.
-
Yeah, one day and one loss after Guerin said it is up to the players to pull themselves out of it. Once again the old vote of confidence for the coach is the kiss of death. Of course the buyouts didn’t give the coach much room to maneuver, and giving out new contracts hasn’t worked out as well as they would have hoped.

So to stop the inbred nature that people complain about, we will hire someone from within who will in turn give UND applicants a higher priority than "outsiders".
