    Opponent Scores

We'll see as time goes on what Kansas is like, but nevertheless, it was a good win for the Bison. It's true it doesn't help UND's in state recruiting, nor out of state for that matter. It doesn't help the Sioux with stories that read "severely overmatched", in a game they should have at least been competitive either.
  3. From what I understand the Notre Dame Hounds have 3 pretty good prospects, including Matteau. Hopefully the Sioux can get back into that old recruiting ground. Although he doesn't play for Notre Dame, Brett Malone, some sort of relation to Brad, seems to get some ink as well. Anyone have any more information as to interest in these guys?
  4. Any more word on the son of the former NHL player the Sioux were interested in? Was it Matteau?
  5. If you read my comment on accolades, it was in response to your and another argument that included WCHA honors and that Lewis finished 7th on the Sioux in scoring. I was only stating that if you go by that criteria, you lose the argument right from the start. I never said that should be the way a Captain is picked.
  6. That's too bad, as the hockey team plays at Wisconsin November 12th and 13th. I am sure more people would have stayed down there if it were the 14th.
  7. Who puts "North Dakota" finished third in their article? Kinda strange. You mean he told the media what order his choices were? I look at it like he finished third, especially if he has the same defensive coach when he gets there, which probably isn't very likely. Sounds like he has great potential.
  8. If you get into accolades as a requirement, you are arguing for the Lamoureux sisters. Both were up for the equivalent of the Hobey as freshmen. Monique led the WCHA in most categories as a freshman. Their numbers as freshman come close to UND's career leaders. This truly is a unique situation. I am sure if I knew Lewis I wouldn't be happy about it either, but it isn't so much a slap on her as it is a testament to the Twins drive and determination. You can't miss this window of opportunity to turn this program around and be the best it can be now so once the talent of the Lamoureux's is gone it can be replenished by being considered a top Tier program where more Blue Chip players will want to play. If you don't take advantage of everything possible now, you won't have a following in the future and won't have the chance to make the program at least close to revenue neutral.
  9. If the Lamoureux sisters can inspire and shame members of the men's hockey team with their work ethic and unending determination, I sure wouldn't mind them doing the same for the women's team. I am pretty sure that they may have been Captains if they had stayed at Minnesota, a team that is already at the top, so I have no problem with them picking up where they left off there. I realize it may offend some, but if Jonathan Toews had eligibility left and came back this year, I would have no problem with him taking over for Genoway as captain, and it has nothing to do with Genoway's abilities to lead.
  10. The Twins have been leaders their whole lives in many sports. It is curious as to why they gave out four "C's" then changed their mind. Maybe attitude had something to do with it. Why didn't they take it away from Dagfinrud as well? I do know that it wouldn't be the first time that a captaincy has been pulled. It's not like the Sioux team won the National Championship last year and have their Captain returning. In fact they weren't exactly world beaters late in the season. Not saying that was the Captain's fault. I do question how a person can abandon their teammates because of that situation though. Almost rings of taking my ball and going home, or I'll show them. To me those aren't the actions of a leader. The best leaders are also servants. These obviously are peripheral observations because I don't know all the facts, but I certainly would hope someone would stick it out even when they feel slighted. I will only look to the men's hockey team and see how much all of the guys wanted Chay Genoway to come back because of how much better it would make the team. Obviously many of those wanting him to come back know that their claim to the Captaincy is now gone, but nevertheless are looking at the bigger picture. I am not only totally excited about the men's team, but the women's team as well. Nobody works harder than the Lamoureux sisters do, and you can't question that they have been leaders all of their life.
  11. It was in the Herald yesterday, along with the info on Lewis not playing this year.
  12. It's too bad Karvinen didn't pass the NCAA clearinghouse. Would have been nice to see her team up with the "sisters" this year rather than next.
  13. Did she quit because she wasn't going to be the captain again, or did she just want to focus on school or something else?
  14. This was long overdue considering how popular the hockey program has been. They've had basketball and football shows every year for years, but there was a void for those who want a little more Fighting Sioux hockey coverage.
  15. I know over on GPL they are speculating that there are two "huge commits" that could possibly be coming and Michaelson was believed to be one of them. I think the speculation was that Skjei was the other. Hopefully Michaelson is still available, so when he and Fasching come up to Grand Forks again this year for the Stastad Tournament, they can have a little fodder to think about. It certainly would be nice to watch them without looking at them through the critical eye as a "gopher recruit". Hopefully the uncertainty of the coaching down in Minneapolis should come into play a bit for a couple NHL top-end prospects, and it certainly doesn't hurt the Sioux with how their coaching staff is looked at in NHL circles. You certainly wouldn't want to use negative recruiting practices, especially on kids from the Cities, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to say we have a good track record of getting guys ready for the next level. I suspect that might not even be necessary, as I am sure many are aware of it anyway. Sometimes kids just want to play for the team they grew up watching, and you can't blame them for that. Don't know if that is the case with the Apple Valley kids, but hopefully they will see all that the Sioux have to offer in the way of development, atmosphere, tradition and facilities.
  16. Don't know if this is on another thread, but Mitch MacMillan, brother of 2011 Sioux recruit Mark MacMillan decomitted Northeastern and committed to St. Cloud according to the KVSC hockey twitter. Might be some nice battles there in the future.
  17. I remember going with my dad when I was very young and the things that sticks out in my mind was the chicken wire that kept the pucks from going out of play. Unlike pounding on the plexiglass now, you could really make an impression on the opposition if you pounded on the chicken wire -- literally! The other thing I remember is how cold it was. Everyone would go underneath the stands to the concession area between periods just to get warm. It was very crowded, and second hand smoke made it seem like there was a fire burning somewhere. Also seemed like everybody had a thermos full of something to keep warm. No alcohol served back then, but I imagine there was plenty in the building anyway. We certainly have come a long way since then.
  18. Let's not forget that the gophers used to make their living from the powerplay in the past. I always remember thinking that if the Sioux play the gophers 5 on 5 the Sioux most likely would come out on top. Last year it was the opposite, as the Sioux scored many goals on the powerplay. The margin between winning and losing right now in the WCHA is scoring one more special teams goal than your opponent. That's why if you have a quarterback on the powerplay like we had with Genoway, it is a huge difference maker. I like our skill guys this year, but let's face it, if a guy like Bjugstad or Haula can make an impact in their freshmen seasons on the powerplay, even with the departures, Minnesota could still be very competitive.
  19. Nevermind the fact that the biggest knock on Lucia is that he doesn't develop players. Now one develops and he gets criticism from another angle. He can't win any which way. While I think Chicago's need is a bigger player in them taking Leddy, he must have developed to some degree.
  20. All I can say is Pride goeth before a fall, so I wouldn't get too haughty lest we find ourselves in the same position.
  21. If you are talking about Poulin, I think she committed to Boston University who the Sioux play early this year.
  22. What kind of accomplishments does Schmaltz have? What level of competition? Has he participated on any select teams and done well? Any info would be great.
  23. Is this another circumstance where the Little Caesars tournament paid off big time?
  24. It's July, any more on the Grimaldi front? Wasn't July supposed to be the decision making month for him? I have no problem with him taking his time, as long as he makes the right decision.

    another idiot

Which political beliefs do you agree with, the beliefs he eschews to try and make money, or his beliefs over the years which seem to change when money is involved. Tim Hennessey and Scott Swygman just laugh at his transformation. The thing is, it should come as no surprise as his outrageous comments favoring the Bison and slighting the Sioux flip-flopped quite quick as well. Never liked him even when he did play by play for the Sioux. Full of hot air just like most politicians.
