  1. Jack Rowe with his first goal for Cedar Rapids tonight. Nick Schmaltz got his first goal last weekend for Green Bay on an assist from his brother.
  2. If you go to Schlossman's blog, his link brings up the story.
  3. I saw that David Marvin said that Kayla Gardner was the most talented player he has coached. Sounds like she could be a good one, as she is only a junior. She also has a sister who has been putting up some numbers as an eighth grader.
  4. I would say it is probably half and half with the media. Half are espousing the same things you are talking about, and half are giving Tebow way too much credit. However, if the Broncos start to fade and lose a few games, even if it is by a missed kick or bad defense, I would say that 90% of them will be all over Tebow and that his success was a stack of cards waiting to fall.
  5. To me Tebow gets too much credit and too much criticism. When many Viking fans talk about Christian Ponder, they say that he has played pretty well, he just has to learn from his mistakes. Everybody realizes there is a steep learning curve for quarterbacks in the NFL, let alone for a quarterback who didn't play the prototypical NFL-type package in college. Since this is basically Tebow's rookie season, people aren't allowing him to have a learning curve. He has already done a pretty good job in avoiding the same mistakes Ponder has made, perhaps because he hasn't been asked to stretch his comfort zone early in the game. If Tebow is ahead of the game on not making stupid mistakes, perhaps he will be able to grow in the other areas of the game as well, as soon as they allow him to be put in those situations. The bottom line is that people shouldn't expect any more out of Tebow than they do from Ponder, because Ponder has, and will probably always have more prototypical NFL experience than Tebow. Allow some time for both players before labeling them as either great or horrible. Time will tell if either has what it takes to make it as a starter long term.
  6. I would like to know what adjustment you make to make the ball go in the hole. I'm sure if they had a surefire way to score, they wouldn't have let it get to 21-0.
  7. I don't think having your first PP unit out when the game is in hand is always so cut and dried. What do you do when you have a nice lead after two periods? I remember our first unit out plenty of times in the past when we had substantial leads. I think if you roll your lines as normal and don't keep them out for extended time, I don't have a problem with it, especially when you have a young unit that needs the reps.
  8. Where did Marion Barber get his education from again!!
  9. Sounds to me like you are upset with the media, but are putting that on Tebow. Don't think he can control the media. There are plenty of skeptics that are ready to pounce on him once the Broncos lose a few games, and as much as Tebow is only a part of the Broncos success and is getting more than his fair share of glory, he will suffer the reverse fate when that happens.
  10. Any recollection of January 11, 1986? http://www.fightingsioux.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=13500&ATCLID=204971613
  11. Are you serious! You continue to play the game. I would consider if the game was well in hand and you keep trotting out your first powerplay unit, but even then, if you are a young team, you need them to get as many reps as possible. You don't just keep throwing the puck around and not try to score, that to me is disrespecting your competition.
  12. Why do things like this always happen when Minnesota is involved?
  13. Was that included in the figure they gave earlier on the way to the goal, or does it cut further into the pledges they need to meet the endowment?

    Sioux vs. UNO

I'm guessing that Blais will have them ready to play, and if they aren't on Friday, you can bet that Blais will impart the importance of staying ahead of the Sioux on Saturday in a way that will be unmistakeable. Also, I'm sure the players with parents that played at UND will want to put on a show.
  15. With the weather we have been having lately, I think the tide is turning and the midwest is undergoing a change that will turn it into a tropical environment. Either that, or Al Gore is full of it!
  16. Realistic maybe, but some experts would have had us splitting with Wisconsin in Madison, sweeping Bemidji, and splitting with CC at best. Most times people expect a sweep in Anchorage, yet our record there is barely .500 over the last 30+ games. It will be interesting to see how those series actually play out. Suffice it to say, if the Sioux can bring it like they did offensively against CC, they should hold their own against anybody.
  17. I think there are a lot of people that could be a "maybe", Who knows what goes on with the management of NHL teams, especially considering Nelson is a 1st round draft pick. Finley was the only 1st rounder that stayed all four years. It would be nice if Kristo and Knight would come back, but if you are an NHL team, do you run the risk of a Gregoire-type of situation where free agency is a possibility? Nobody thought Hextall was even a "maybe" but he made up his mind to leave pretty quick. All we can do is speculate, because each guy has their own reasons for moving on, including those that aren't moving on to the next level.
  18. The phrase "having once been a fan" to me suggests you have an axe to grind. Perhaps you know somebody who has an axe to grind because they didn't get enough playing time or something when either of those guys was here. Also, just because you say it is fact, does not make it so. If you indeed have an axe to grind, then your perspective could be quite skewed.

    2012 Recruiting

Did the coaches bring him to the hockey game last weekend? If so, did they have other recruits in last weekend to witness the good atmosphere?
  20. Wonder why he played 4 games with Des Moines in the USHL with a goal and an assist and went back to his old team? Looks like he is a '94 birthdate, so would assume not a candidate to help with depth the second half this year. Looks like he has some nice skills.
  21. Yeah, you get those guys that grew up dreaming about playing for the Sioux, and they would go through a wall if they were told to do so. Scott Dub was a perfect example. Many times you would rather have guys like that rather than those who feel entitled to playing time. We've seen in the past few years how that attitude hasn't worked wonders for the rival to the south. It is worth noting that Minnesota's resurgence has taken place with walk-on type players like Serratorre and Parenteau who have strong work ethics, which in turn makes the talented guys stay on their toes if they want to see the line-up.

    2012 early look

What needs to happen to get Aarin Smith on campus and playing for the Sioux next year?
  23. Not for after Christmas. He doesn't turn 16 until January.
  24. So will he come back sooner than he should to be able to play in the World Junior tournament at Christmas? My optimism just waned a bit. The next 8 games are critical, and the Sioux will need everybody to step up in order to keep their heads above water until they can get healthy, if that is even possible with such a short bench.
  25. It would be nice when we get to the NCHC, if the Sioux could schedule playing in Duluth in October or November, instead of January and February, which has been the case lately. Be nice to be able to make a trip up the North Shore when winter hasn't already taken hold. If Brian Faison is listening, please work at getting some sort of rotation, so trips like that don't always have to be made when the weather conditions can make it a hit or miss type of thing.
