Out of respect for those that are sick of the nickname debate, I left this out of the committed recruits thread. Does anybody else think the apparel is incredibly lame that these kids are wearing to their signings? Any nickname, except Sundogs, would improve on the plain look of the current apparel.

From interviews I've seen and things I've heard from when he was in Fargo, it seems he is a confidence goaltender. Obviously that isn't a lot to base an assumption like that after, but if that is the case, he could be really good when his confidence is up, or really off like you said when it isn't. It's safe to say that early on in both the Lake Superior game this year and last, he was getting his feet wet and wasn't super confident.

Why doesn't it surprise me that this is contrary to your post on the other nickname thread. If it's all about what young people want, then it is that music.

I googled hawk logo images and out of a ton of them couldn't find any that seemed cool or worthy of UND. Hope they can use a swooping bird to fill in the "N" of ND, and make it a relevant logo. Just don't know if the consultants would take the time to differentiate it enough from the hundreds of stale images. Bennett Brien would at least care what he puts out for consumption.

What I can't understand is how people like Dave St. Peter and others let the consultant take over to the point where that was allowed to happen.

I think it would take a monumental shift to overthrow Fighting Hawks now. If all the same people voted, and they all won't as some have stated, you would need to get just about every one of the Nodak votes, and that is not going to happen. The only hope would be to have a pretty big shift and have more people voting this time around, which unfortunately I don't think is in the cards either.

A lot of kids are committing early these days. Even if you don't plan on offering him for another couple of years, it sure helps to let him know what he would be missing if he decided to commit elsewhere really early.

But don't you remember, the committee said they want this to be representative of the entire university, not just the Aerospace department. They had no problem keeping out nicknames that actually fit the university because of that, but somehow figured out how to get a name that really doesn't fit anything into the final ballot.

Since we will be getting a logo that will most likely be somewhat generic, so as not to offend, maybe we should just make it similar to the Detroit Redwings logo with the interlocking ND in the middle. Or maybe something with 2 wings with the ND connecting them and somehow incorporating the state outline in there. I agree with Schlossman that we need Brien or someone else doing the logo, and keeping the consultants out of that phase. Maybe we could get something decent out of that scenario.

Guess we'll find out when the new logo is unveiled. On the positive side, it will be yet another Hawks team that Minnesota will have to play second fiddle to in Championships.

Because it is so generic, that when all was said and done, would garner support from more unique nicknames that had detractors for several reasons. Doesn't help that many truly believe they will get a Sioux type logo from it. Would have been happy if they only put truly unique names like Badlanders, Peregrines, Nokota, etc., on the final ballot and let the winner grow on people like Buckeyes, Hoosiers, Sooners, Cornhuskers did with their Universities.

It was a trap for the reason they came off a long road trip and were undefeated, all the while being told how bad Wisconsin is, which leads them to believe with home ice they shouldn't have a problem. Sounds like a definition of a "trap" to me. Yeah, it all comes down to effort, but that is what they mean by trap, not being fully into a game because of circumstances leading up to or after that game. Glad you could make money betting against the Sioux, but it makes me believe you don't believe your own opinions.

Exactly! Whenever I hear how bad the other team is by media and fans, I cringe. I have seen upsets happen all too frequently in that scenario. Perhaps a little too much, "we're home now, things will come easy", and plenty of incentive for Wisconsin against the number one team after reading how bad they are. Back to work tomorrow.

Yeah, the hypocrisy of the NCAA with their not allowing teams to host in their home arena in hockey, while giving higher bids more emphasis in football is bizarre. How about being consistent with your level playing field mantra.

I agree, I have a gift certificate to the Sioux Shop and back in the day it would have been spent in a heartbeat. Now I look through everything and say maybe I'll wait to see if anything comes in that has the "Look". Can't say that I've seen anything with just North Dakota that has me thinking I have to get that. I do think any of the names that get selected could have logo potential if they go about it right, which means ditch the consultant needing to sign off on a logo.

Wisconsin has some high end guys though in Besse and Kunin. Hopefully we limit chances like we have thus far, but if Besse has a chance to get his shot off in the slot, we will find out just how much Hyrinkiw has improved since his first game. If UND has the type of puck control they have had early in the season, that might not be a factor, but hopefully we don't find out. Wisconsin did tie Northern Michigan twice who beat and tied Bemidji State like we did. I know matching scores isn't much benefit, but it does give an idea if a team can be competitive in any given game.

Have you seen this hit from many angles? I cannot see from the angle given whether he connected or not, but I did see him take his hand off the stick and bring his arm up. I don't know if it hit or not, but I can't see how everyone is so sure of themselves from that clip, when other people see it different. I guess at the very least, the league saw it different.
