  1. It's acceptable for FBS to play down, but not for FCS teams?!

Thanks I needed a good laugh.

Actually yeah. An FCS win still counts towards a FBS teams win total to get to 6-5 and be bowl elgible.

A D2 or lower does not count for an FCS teams win total to get into the playoffs (see Montana this year)

  2. What a joke. Meanwhile Montana is sitting at home. Maybe they should have moved Minnesota-Duluth into the FCS playoffs. Doesn't the NSIC allow almost as many schollies? Nevertheless, it will be proclaimed by the local media as another historic D-I moment for NDSU, just like that first FCS game and victory against non-scholly Valporaiso. ;)

ndsu didn't choose who they had to play. Also, a win in the postseason is a big deal and when its the first at home in 20+ years its kind of historic for a lot of fans.

  3. The things I like:

-Obviously Muss has an offensive system he wants to run and seems to be recruiting the players to fit it. So far we have recruited a little bit smaller O-linemen, small, quick WR's, and quick RB's. I would not mind giving him time to let him get the players to fit his system to see what he can do. He has proven in the past that when he has the talent to run what he would like he runs a good offense. In the past Muss has changed his offensive system to fit his players, this year he seems to be sticking with this system even though the players weren't there and I don't mind that.

    - Anyone who has been around Muss can't deny that he relates to players pretty well.

    - We finally are in a conference. Nothing to do with Muss but can only help in recruiting which in turn will put more talent on the field.

    - Muss truely has the schedule anyone, anytime mentality. He has that arrogance as a coach and he's not afraid of a challenge. He doesn't just say it and than turn around and not believe it. He's an arrogant man and this is times where thats a good thing.

    Things I don't like:

    - Team record.

    - At times I wonder about some players effort and if they truely care about what Muss and the coaching staff think. I know with our previous two coaches you didn't dare take a play off because you didn't want a coach to see that on film. Didn't want to let them down. I'm not in the locker room so I don't know this about Muss.

    - Enough about going toe to toe and moral victories. I know its lip service and he's trying to keep the fans interested when we are having a down year but I'm tired of hearing it.

  4. If UND would agree to an every other year deal- the game would happen in 2012.

    I'll play too.

If Gene would agree to a home and home contract with the game happening two consecutive years it would happen.

Boy pointing the finger at someone else is pretty easy. I see why you guys do it all the time.

  5. No, but playing Valpo would not improve the program either.

Maybe won't improve the team but it counts for something and a DII or NAIA doesn't. This years playoff selections proved its better to have a poor FCS over a DII

  6. God, I hope this is not true. Playing Valpo is worse than a team scrimmage. They have no scholarships and you know how well the rest of the scholarship teams in Indiana fare. As I recall NDSU played them in one of their first transition years and beat them by a huge margin. Bring on Winona!

    Are you serious??

  7. Normally I'd say act like you've been there before but.........well, you've never been there before. When I saw this title I thought it was going to read

As a BISON FAN, whats it going to be like on Saturday having a home playoff game? I've never been to one before and I'm really excited for the JV team coming to Fargo.

  8. In my mind it all boils down to QB play. The good teams at this level have consistent QB play that play within a system and don't hurt a team. Teams that have turned around this year started it with an improvement at the QB spot. I think we can get all the talent we want at other positions but if the QB play continues to hurt us a dramatic improvement next year is unlikely.

  9. They really need to stay out of it. These guys have to come to some sort of agreement. How about 2 consecutive years with no guarantee after that. See how it goes and than decide how to continue after that. There is a standing offer by both schools that neither is willing to accept and it doesn't sound like there will be any budging.

  10. Hey I'll give props to the Bison but I think its hilarious that you come on here and also on your board their fans talk trash about us not getting into the playoffs. I know that our record sucks but here is another news flash they may not understand, we aren't even playoff elgible. I love the fact that you get a home playoff game for the first time ever and the first thing some of their fans do is compare their program to a team in transition. Even on a day that should be all about the Bison for their fans the Sioux are still in their minds. Thats right though, they moved on. :D:D:D

    Good luck on Saturday.

  11. Are all the schools in MN in such a money pinch?

Yes, they are all looking to make cuts. That is why some of them would like to cut football and advance talks with the NCC I mean Summit league

  12. My bad, I thought he was limping prior to the TD run. I emailed TV today, and he responded that there hasn't been an update on his status yet.

You could be right Matt. I didn't mean to come off as I knew for sure. I was just going off of what I thought it looked like on TV. Either way I think we both agree that he's a tough kid and he'll definately give it a shot.

  13. I think Minett tweaked his ankle, he kept playing but he wasn't 100%. I would be surprised if he doesn't play in his final career game, unless an MRI shows much more severe damage this week.

Minett was injured on his TD run in the second half. You could see when it looked like he pulled something. He never returned and SDSU completely went away from the running game. I think its a pulled muscle and depending on how severe will determine if he'll be back. He's a tough runner so it wouldn't suprise me if he played but I don't know how effective he will be.

  14. The Dutch farmer lurks out there.

He made a move a year ago to ensure his resume would have the correct credentials when the time comes.

    It's coming ...

If the Dutch farmer is who I think it is I'd rather keep Mussman around.

  15. "How the mighty have fallen"? UND football is a complete nobody in FCS. I think we have had our ups and downs, but we are doing just fine, UND on the other hand, is embarrasing. "How the might have fallen"? You were bragging about that 2001 win, and all those GVSU games, looks like you have "fallen".

Lets see, this year we have had poor QB play, average DB play at best, only have one big play WR and coaching has been questionable. Seems pretty similar to the bison last year. Things can turn around pretty quickly in FCS football, look at your own conference for that. The difference between that haves and have nots in this league is usually qb play. I love the fact that your team is in the middle of a playoff run but you still have to come on a Sioux board and use a team you don't play anymore as a measuring stick for where your team is at right now. It sure is nice when a 3 win team gets as much coverage as a 7 win team thats in the hunt for a playoff spot. Was hunting out west this weekend and the Sioux vs. Montana game got more coverage than your win over your "rival"

  16. Another kid that apparently hasn't heard the UND to the Big Sky announcement. He signed with NDSU yesterday.

He verballed to you a while back, I'm guessing you knew this. I'm also guessing you understand the importance of being in an AQ conference your comment was out of jealousy that UND is now in one. Just like most other ndsu fans are feeling a little threatened by UND to the Big Sky you had to come here and try to downplay it. Thanks for your interest in UND athletics though.

  17. Get it into your heads NDSU has ZERO interest in moving to the BSC. We have bus trips for some of our games and when we have to charter fights they're short trips. Fans can drive to most of the away games which is a big plus. We play in our recruiting area which is positive for the recruits famiies. Our student athletes only have to deal with 1 time zone (usually) which is a big plus for not being tired and getting their school work done. Fullerton got schooled by Douple. Fullerton should have made UND/USD a package deal and he might have gotten them. UND and SUU announced early and that left USD with options. You all know what happened after that. You are now out on a island and get use to most of the BSC bitching about playing you without a true travel partner. By the way thanks for taking SUU off our hands! :D

Well, I guess its a bad thing than that Kelly, Faison and the rest of the UND athletic dept. can see beyond one time zone. If flying over a time zone is what makes an ndsu athlete too tired to complete their homework than I really don't know what to tell you. UND has been flying all over the country for the last few years and continues to put all kinds of kids on All-academic teams and has athletes winning academic scholorships after graduation. I really don't know the key to thier success about this time zone travel that is such a drag on Fargo athletes.

What you need to get into your head is that we really are excited about the Big Sky. I know you are trying to find any negative you can but in my mind the positives out weigh the negatives. You can take comments made by newspaper columns but we have yet to see anything from any school in the Big Sky who is disappointed by the admission of UND. Montana actually came out and talked about the positive of adding UND and since the rest of the Big Sky bows to Montana I'm sure they will tolerate it.

As far as who schooled who I guess it just depends on what side of the fence you are on. We don't really know how everything went down and some of us may not want to know the discussions that went on after UND signed with the Big Sky. ;)

  18. Second, he wanted UM to compete with more mission-similar institutions. He said the recent addition of the University of North Dakota strengthened the Big Sky Conference in that regard

Sounds like a quote from a president who is as pissed to have UND in the conference as bison and jacks fans want to believe.

  19. I don't see Idaho, San Jose St, or Utah St. moving down.

Some of those schools may not have a choice pretty soon. Idaho has an athletic budget smaller than UND's. They are also paying for another 20 scholorships for football. If the WAC spreads itself out from Lousiana to Idaho with most schools being south the budget gets pretty tight. If Montana does not join the WAC than for every reason UND does not fit in the Big Sky, Idaho won't fit in the WAC. The Big Sky is providing a footprint for some of these schools to keep costs down and for them there are no other conference options. Since most conferences require a school to sponsor certain sports a school may hit a crossroads of do they bite the bullet and drop down a level for football or continue loosing money on athletics.

I will say UND may eventually hit this point as well as all of this is purely speculation. UND has proven though that it can send its athletic teams all over the country in the Great West and still turn a profit. I'm not in the Idaho, SJSU or USt. athletic depts. but I'm guessing a lot more is hinging on Montana's decision than one thinks.
