  1. Maybe tanked is a harsh word, but not considering what most have come to expect from the UND program. When did NDSU have all this hype and not make the playoffs? When we went 3-8 two years ago? No hype from me, most NDSU fans knew that without a decent quarterback we would never get it done. There will always be hype surrounding the NDSU football team, not the same but similar to UND hockey. Being the premier program at a school tends to lend itself well to fans over-hyping the talent of a team.

You're right it's easy to sit back and say this team would beat that team.

I don't see any reason why NDSU would want to play UND right now. In the eyes of a lot of people in the area, if you aren't one of them fine, NDSU has the perception of being the superior program. This helps with recruiting, fund-raising, student interest etc. If we play again and let's say we lose, then we have lost the perception of being superior. If we win, people will still believe we are the superior program. I don't see any advantage strategically for NDSU to play this game.

But if your so sure your the superior team you should have nothing to worry about and be scared of. Your last few posts have been talking about how your far and away the better team and even all the Sioux fans you know think that, (find that really hard to believe) but your scared about what will happen when you lose. That is a very comical post.:lol:

  2. Bison laid a 2x4 on the Sioux today, winning 19-5.

This Bison team should have a much better record than they have. They've lost something like 10-11 games by 2 runs or less.

Bison definately had UND's number tonight. Guys gotta hit when we get runners in scoring position.

  3. That's kind of ironic, since most schools in the Big Sky would cut off their noses to get UND out of their conference. That is sad but true. UND needs the "Fat Chick" form 75 miles south of them to join their league to keep the other schools from revolting. Even the school that rules the Big Sky (U of Mont) and is supposedly a supporter of UND (perhaps their only one) apparently didn't want to make UND one of its rivals in football.

Truth be told, when NDSU was seeking membership in the Big Sky, there wasn't a MVFC or Gateway/Summit or Mid Con option. If there were that option they may very well have picked the Mid Con/Gateway.

If UND had the choice between the Big Sky or MVFC/Summit, I think they would have chosen the MVFC/Summit. So in fact, they settled for what was their only option and probably thier second choice.

Amazining how bison fans know about the feelings of the Big Sky conference when they aren't even a member. We are very fortunate that your fanbase cares so much about a conference they didn't want to be in or a school they don't care about anymore to keep tabs on what every school in the conference thinks about UND's membership. Thank you for sharing since everything that has been made public about how Big Sky schools feel about UND's addition has been positive, except for one person. There was more complaining years back when ndsu was added to the MVFC but according to your fanbase that was a happy marriage. Funny how jealousy makes a fanbase think.

  4. What's your baseball teams record? You're both delusional to think the Bison want to change conferences. But keep telling yourselves that - does it really make you feel better?

I don't know, does it make you feel better to come on here and tell us what is best for UND?

  5. Maybe......but the atmosphere at the BB game was as stale as could be. UNI is the team generating most of the contempt from Bison fans now days.

The handful of Bison fans I went to the game with where already well into drinking their sorrows away from that afternoon. Thank EWU for that atmosphere. The 10,000 tickets sold shows that before the football game results there was a lot more interest. Think they would get that for UNI?

  6. I left pretty happy with where we are at in the passing game. I feel that next year we are at least going to have options. I agree with the above posts that Bradley and Hendrickson looked the best. Bradley has only been in the offense for 3 months, 11 practices. He could be an option. Hendrickson looks better than he did at the end of last year. We all know he was switched back from WR but he looks to have made strides in the offseason. That says a lot about the kid. Also, I heard good things about Comes. We didn't get to see him but he throws a nice ball and has good feel for the offense for a freshman. I'm a lot more confident about our QB situation going into next year.

  7. I liked the new format. The WR's are young and had some drops but look more athletic than years past. I was most impressed with the offensive and defensive lines. The OL looks much improved which is good. Our DL is going to be very good this year. I like the direction those position groups are going. The biggest thing in my mind that the qb's are lacking is experience. Maybe they won't improve but it seems the tools are there but poor decisions just kill them. All and all it was a fun day. I really enjoyed all the hard work everyone put into the day and with a little nicer weather I think this was a step in the right direction to turn this game into more of an event.

  8. Bin, I saw that as well. Hopefully nothing serious on the injury front. Seems like every spring something major happens to at least one guy. The players work to hard for that to happen.

  9. Thank you for the updates everyone.

One more week of practice before the spring game. Hopefully the progression continues at the QB spot. I really think having Muss go back to the OL will really help next season. He enjoys coaching that spot, he is very knowledgeable at that spot and we need to be good their next year.

One thing for next year that I think is going to be a real good thing for the defense is how well Ross Brennaman is playing. You could tell last year he was a year away and having a DE who needs to be double teamed when lining up in the "B gap" or will hurt teams is huge. We've been solid there for a few years but have really been lacking the playmaker there and its been clear by lack of pressure. If we can get a NG who can control a center and a DE who get attention from a Gaurd/Tackle and get the same consistent play from Bellmore I think we will be back to getting some pressure on the QB which will help the defense overall.

  10. Scrimmage today at 1:00. Wish I could be there to check it out. If anyone who makes it could give their thoughts it would be appreciated by those who can't be there. Thanks in advance.

  11. Just wondering. Is this Dave Chokestol's biggest choke job yet? The sue have lost five straight games in the Frozen Four so we all know that they've been choking for years, but this year easily tops the list in my opinion. And the fact that it happened at the X in the Gopher's backyard for all of us to enjoy makes it that much sweeter. I truly believe that Chokestol will never get a ring, he gets out coached every year in the NCAA's. If they didn't win it this year I don't see them ever winning it. The sue were by far the best team left and hadn't lost since late January, but when you have Chokestol for a coach all bets are off. And to get shut out? Priceless. The looks on the faces of the sue fans after Michigan's eng was as good as it gets. Enjoy the 5 hour trip back to the prairie as your best days are behind you. You lost the Frozen Four (again), you lost your nickname, and you lost the two flagship programs of the WCHA to the Big Ten Conference. Pretty bleak future for you all.

You mean the two flagship programs who have been done for almost a month now?

  12. You know, I hope I am wrong. I wish all the best to the QB corps we have. I would love to see one or two of them step up and be an All American QB. Based on last year, I do not see it happening. I was just hoping beyond hope that Demler, Comes, or Bradley would come to the fore and be a great QB. Do you have any eligibility left? The QB's from USD and SFU have made our QB's look like statues with cement shoes the last two years. Last year at Idaho Landry looked like a deer in the headlights and that was better than Goska looked later in the season. Hendrickson, well.............enough said. Freund may make a difference, but this program is too important to not find a couple of kids that are of big time quality. Got any other wise comments?

Sorry I have no elgibility left and even if I did I'd make last years QB play at the end of the season look outstanding.

I know the comment was wise and I apologize but I want to echo the last two posts, we don't even know who the starter will be. There is a very good chance it is going to be someone who we didn't see take any snaps last season. If we had a new guy coming into any other position we would at least be optimistic that he could fill the spot and do well, I'm not going to change that for the QB spot. I made the comment about Demler because I heard from a few people that the kid was talented but his talents didn't fit the new offensive scheme the offensive coaches have decided to go to. I agree with you its going to make or break next season but I am at least going to give the players a chance to prove themselves before I write them off.

  13. This position absolutely scares me to death. If Demler feels he can not ever play here, what was Muss doing recruiting him? He has two real stiffs ahead of him from last year, a contemporary in Comes, and a juco transfer that apparently so far is mildly impressive. This position killed us last year even with the holdover DII recruit Landry. If this program is to succeed, QB play has to be an absolute top priority. With the weak schedule for 2011 we might survive, but looking beyond that unless Bradley or Comes are really top quality players this program is in trouble. As you note, I have no confidence in either Hendrickson or Goska doing anything special for this team.

Demler was a good looking high school recruit coming out of Wisconsin. He was the highest regarded QB in the state that year and was talking to UW about a preferred walk on. His style was in the pocket though and he lacked a little of the mobility required to run the Pistol offense that we are transitioning to. His fit into the system probably had more to do with it than his talent.

  14. What I think is funny is Kolpack actually went to Gene Taylor to get his thoughts. Like he has any control over the situation and what was he going to say about it? I'm sure he's thrilled the sports director of their new radio station is the voice of the Sioux. I'm also sure he's thrilled that his new radio station paid to pick up the games of the "niche" sport no one cares about. That is about as funny as the 180's that went on over a B'ville.:lol:

  15. This is a great hire. I was a little nervous on who we would get to replace Hammer, especially as time went along. A good radio voice will be very important in the Big Sky and Jack sounds like he is very excited to be that voice.

    Welcome Jack.

  16. Jack Michaels from Bismarck was hired today to take over Dan Hammers position at KFGO/KFAN as sports director. I think UND could work out the same agreement with him that we had with Hammer if Michaels wants to.

It would be nice if we could get something worked out with Jack. He is very, very good at what he does and really enjoys the sports he covers. He's done a great job in Bismarck the last few seasons.

  17. Unfortunately, I think this is an absolute necessity. We have some talent and depth issues at safety which is probably what prompted the position change for Hawkins. I think this is the best way to get the most talent on the field, especially in nickel situations as you could have Mersereau, Hawkins, Brown, Hall and Mackey all on the field at the same time. If any of the corners slip up or get injured, hopefully the Watkins improvement discussed on SFI will help. He really had a bad season in 2010 and if he can make a positive contribution this season, I would consider it a bonus.

In my opinion, we are dangerously thin behind Mersereau and Hawkins at safety, but we have some decent depth at corner. Hall & Mackey need to learn to tighten up their coverage now when needed in certain down and distance situations. They have the physical talent and confidence, now they just need to add the mental game.

Well said vince. That is what I was trying to say but you said it much better than I did.

  18. On another positive note I have heard very good things on our LB crew for this upcoming season. As long as we stay healthy we should continue to improve there. That is so important to our defense and will also help our secondary out. We have been lacking that the last 3-4 seasons and its showed.

  19. Sounds like it is all but a formality that Dominique Hawkins will be moving to safety this season...................is that a good thing? He's really been the only bright spot in the defensive backfield the last three seasons.....................Seems to me that quality safeties are easier to come by than quality cornerbacks............

Agreed Bin. I think the big thing will be if Hall and Mackey can have the confidence this year to not have to give the 7 yard cushion. Also throw Brown in the mix and get his feet wet and I'm ok with this. If Hawkins can be the playmaker at safety that he was at corner that should help.

Watkins has to reprove everything to me as he didn't play well last year. I don't know if its his confidence or what he was worried about but he needs to get A LOT better before fall.

  20. SFI has updates on offense and defense...

    After Week #1 (Defense)

    After Week #1 (Offense)

This is when spring ball will start to get interesting. Most guys look pretty good before they put the pads on. Now that the guys will be at least in shells everyday some seperation will happen at some positions and the young guys will get some valuable learning experience.

Depth along the dline will be crucial this year. I'm still holding out hope about the possible transfer I heard about at NG. I would feel pretty good going into the season 3 deep there.

  21. Just read the article on Ross Brenneman and the rest of the D-line. Sounds like we have good first-stringers, hope the rest give us depth, as those positions require plenty of playing time for two lines. Noticed Seth Stanchick was not named. I know he had a tough injury last year, but hoped he would be back. He logged quite a bit of playing time last year and seemed pretty steady. Does anybody know if they are just sitting him out of spring ball?

I think it was mentioned earlier as Stanchick would be out of spring ball while trying to heal from his broken leg. It was a pretty good fracture.

  22. Is that like the WCHA being NSIC Lite? NDSU is very happy where we are. With Mr. Faison running your sports programs like DII I'm sure you'll be having fun....

You mean the WCHA with two teams remaining along with Notre Dame and Michigan, yep thats the conference.

Your fanbase seems pretty concerned with UND and the direction UND is headed. That concern really hit an all time high about the same time the Big Sky announcement came about. Weird. I find your fanbases constant "concern" rather entertaining, like this gentleman taking the time to start this thread. Not knowing anything about UND but yet knowing of our poor recent seasons and also knowing enough of what we have returning to now understand our excitement for our future. Did you create another account Danno? Couldn't support your envy for UND with just one?
