  1. It's a big deal. Significantly weakens the conference. The only positive is they will have an easy path to the NCAA Baskeball Tournament. Not having to beat Oral Roberts and Oakland makes it easy. But RPI will drop.

If they are happy being in a !@#!$ conference with weaker competition more power to them. The Summit sucks, I don't know you keep sticking up for it.

  2. lots of other leagues have been doing this for a while. The mac calls suny-buffalo just buffalo, uwgb goes by greenbay, utc goes by chattanooga.

I think it's funny that people in the big sky think that being in a bottom half basketball league that they are stuck in is a good thing. Aside from UM and weber state, noone in that league has a shot of going anywhere else, and are so lightly regarded that boise and sdsu never even considered putting their olympic sports there, and Idaho only did because noone else wanted them. At least summit teams have the opportunity periodically to move up. !@#$ the big-east is only a way-station league, would UND stick up it's nose at the big east as well? I mean who cares about RPI anyway?

the best thing is that if UND would join the summit, you suddenly have a stable 7 team core, mostly on the I-29 corridor, composed of 5 similar state schools, plus uno and wiu. Add the indiana schools and you've got basically everything needed to be a solid league.

Why would UND move from a one bid basketball league to another? Your best basketball program just left the conference and the other has one foot out the door. But now that people know that Kansas City, Omaha, Fargo, Brookings and IUPUI are in the conference I see the prestige rising imediately.

  3. I don't know why people keep giving the putting winning first at NDSU line. If putting winning first was the issue, they would have sat for pvam, rather than potentially for a major game against UNI, YSU, SDSU, or either ISU, or for that matter, the playoffs. Moreover, only 2 are currently starters, and only Marcus Williams would be a noticeable hit.

Ojuri has a history of minor infractions, mostly about window tint, and i believe one suspended licence charge. I feel his case warranted a suspension.

Ojuri has had much more issues than traffic violations. He's on strike 5 but he's a 1000 yard back so that is acceptable. Remember he already had a one year suspension for multiple infractions and was lucky to get off with that. I'm sure you already knew that being a big fan of both schools and all.

Also, if you think these guys are going to get suspended later in the year, Gene Taylor and Craig Bohl have a nice chunk of land they would like to sell you just north of Fargo. Just write that check out the BSA Improvement Fund.

  4. I get nothing but !@#$ here anyways. I miss the atmosphere of the old ralph. The new one, honestly bored me away from fandom. I mean nice facility and all, but having nice seats doesn't make a good atmosphere or a good place to watch a game. If you want to sit down and watch a sporting event in a cushioned chair, do it in your living room. Note that I haven't been to the REA since the 2009-2010 season, haven't had season tickets since 05-06 (i had season tickets or access to season tickets from 2002-2006), and I really have no interest in ever going back. I don't even like hockey anymore, after being a pretty big fan in high school and my first two years at UND.

Thought you were a UND hockey fan? But you don't even like hockey anymore?

  5. They have only played one FCS game and it happened to be against a pretty good team. You are right that they likely won't make the playoffs, but IMO it is because their strength of schedule was ridiculous to try and get the athletic department out of some financial woes.

Yet another example that makes the case for having too difficult of a schedule isn't a good thing.

NDSU is playing Montana and Montana St. as non conference in the next couple of years so your theory of NDSU not wanting to play UND non conference cause their conference schedule is too difficult and they don't want to play ranked teams doesn't hold much water. Both of those schools will likely be ranked at the time NDSU plays them.

  6. UNI is a really good program but like you said they are not any better than they were last year. Another minor point is how bad Wisconsin and Iowa have turned out to be - they are still major BCS programs but are down compared to past seasons.

UNI is a great program but I find it interesting that just cause they are UNI they can only be beat by MVFC teams. They are down right now. They lost some key players from last season and are going to finish around .500 in their conference.

  7. The defense has me nervous for this week. They have to be assignment sharp and cannot miss tackles. Plus, the secondary cannot play as poorly in this game as they did last season vs. Cal Poly. We need to force them to methodically drive the ball down the field. The big play has killed us this season. I'm hoping the difference between this year and last is the fact that we have an offense now that can move the ball and keep our defense off the field.

  8. Montana is down. Montana State is down. Those two statements are based on out of conference performances.

ISU-R, ISU-B are both up. NDSU is NDSU. UNI is UNI. Youngstown is back. SDSU might be good. Right now the Valley is up and the two traditional powers in the Big Sky are down. Can't blame people for maybe questioning the Big Sky at this point in time.

Whoever wins the Big Sky this year is going to kinda be like Andy Roddick when he won the US Open. After Sampras, before Federer, between powers.

The UNI who got absolutely dismantled by Montana last year? UNI is no better this year and I'd still put Montana above them.

  9. So when the MVFC teams beat each other up throughout the year it is because of their unbelievable depth and quality of the teams. When the middle of the pack Big Sky teams get better and beat the top dogs, then the whole conference is mediorcre. Got it.

Glad to see you are still neutral and a fan of both NDSU and UND.

I was thinking this same thing. I'm waiting for the article from Kolpack and crew when UND is ranked this week. Game was barely over and fans like mg are already trying to downplay the Big Sky.
