  1. There must be more going on than meets the eye, nobody leaves a team when they are favored to win a NC in a few weeks, maybe one of the Bison guys on here has heard something more. Even if they were transferring after semester that woudn't start until well into January, the whole thing doesn't sound right.

You mean 3 guys all from the same state all "leave the team" in the same week and the head coach basically says he doesn't give a !@#$ when asked about it doesn't pass the sniff test. Weird.

  2. I've heard some good things about Layne Johs out of Bismarck High and his interest in UND. Out of all the kids from North Dakota he is the one I would really like to get. FU is also very heavily recruiting and has been talking $$$. Hopefully Layne follows the path of other recent BHS grads to Grand Forks.

  3. Hey at least "Denver University" fits the Summit League naming philosophy. They won't need to make them change their name.

That had to be attractive for the Summit League.

That had to be key. Chicago St., Houston Baptist or New Jersey Institute of Technology will also be prime candidates after Oakland and maybe IUPUI leave in the future. Douple's plan is unfolding perfectly.

  4. I'll take the Big Sky- gives us another different selling point from the other regional schools for regional recruits and a real nice selling point to recruits within the conference footprint if we choose to recruit those areas. Also, having the opportunity to play the regional schools non conference makes for a nice schedule.

The Summit footprint is expanding, not shrinking and the conference has teams lined up to exit. It has always been a revolving door and that will never change.

  5. as a counterpoint, the only relevant game film sdsu had on und was mines. that said with a better d UND at least beats sdsu, which would have been very nice

As a counterpoint at that point in the season every team only has one or two game tapes on their opponent.

  6. I realize the transition was tough on the program, but it really is nothing more than an excuse for inept coaching and mediocre talent. I mean, if the transition from DII to DI is so tough on teams, how was NDSU able to put together a 10-1 season during their transition?

If you can develop talent and demonstrate quality leadership, in terms of the entire coaching staff, you should still be able to compete at a high level. UND didn't do that during their transition and this year's team certainly didn't compete at a high level either.

You hit it on the head with leadership. Both at the player and coach level. FU had some internal issues at the player level during their 6-5 and 3-8 seasons. Senior leadership worked to correct those issues and you had yourself a playoff team with probably less talent than previous years. I really feel leadership is whats lacking on this team and I'm not talking from a coaching level. We need some players to take control of this, force each other to stick around for a summer and challenge each other to get better. Coaches can only do so much. Look at the Kill incident and the Gophers.

  7. 1st 4 games next yr are at the Al w 3 of em vs. Jacks, Griz and Cats. Lose those 3 to start 1-3 and Al will be empty rest of season.

True, but a big win over Valpo, a win against the Jacks (who is a familiar oppenent and will draw a nice crowd), and a strong showing against the Griz (who will also bring a nice crowd) can set the tone for the rest of the year at home. The only game of those 4 which I'd put us as long shots against is the Cats.

  8. That fact Muss had the entire time out to mull it over and still decided not to kick is even more disturbing.

I'm disappointed we would have had to rely on a 51 yard FG to win the game but with our kicking game it was makeable. I also don't completely have a problem going for it either ( I know I'm in the minority on that). However, with the way we have run the ball all season, I would have had more confidence, spreading the defense out and throwing for it on 4th and 1 which is bad.

Our offensive and defensive lines need to get much stronger this offseason. If all those guys don't stick around this summer something is wrong. I know certain programs who have pretty solid lines have their guys lift twice a day during the summer (cough both can be found along I94, cough). We need to be doing the same thing. Our struggles to run the ball this year concerned me about as much as our struggles to stop the run. Line play is the biggest key going into next year for me, not the schemes.

  9. I'm calling bull$%!#. I was there. I was looking at zeb to see what he was doing to prepare himself and he was just standing there ready to go. He never approached the coaches let alone started pleading with them. Basically everything you post should not be read by anyone because you're fabricating things to make the situation seem even more negative.

This. I don't mind reading someone who has an opinion different than mine but its been the same !@#$ from him all year. I just heard Muss on the radio and he said nothing of the defense going toe to toe with UNC like he claimed above. Also, UND decided not to kick the field goal during a time out so to claim they did not have a play ready is a dumb comment. They didn't just run everyone out there in panic mode to run a play.

  10. Barf! Muss just said on radio we were a few plays away from winnig and our d wqs playing toe to toe with unc offense

Where did he say that? What station was he on? I just heard an interview with him and he said nothing like that at all.

  11. So we would improve the opportunity by 5 yards, maybe 10 at best. If you're comfortable at 45 yards, you should be content at 51 yards given the situation, but I digress.

Are you serious? While I would have had no problem trying to kick a 51 yarder, there is a huge difference between a 45 yard kick and a 51 yard kick. With 50 seconds left and the clock stopping on 1st downs it would not have been hard to get to a 30 yard attempt for the win. Looking back on it now I think we would have had a better chance throwing for the 1st down against 12 guys than trying to run against 12. How does no body notice that? Not an official or a coach or a player? Somebody has to see that.

  12. At this level there is no reason we shouldn't have 90%+ of our players up here during the summer. I know that wasn't the case this last year. Our o-line and probably d-line need to do a lift in the morning and evening this offseason. What we have been doing isn't cutting it. They both need to get stronger. Our offensive and defensive skill guys need to spend time doing 7 on 7 passing drills this offseason. This will benefit Molberg and Bartels by getting some reps and our WR's are as talanted as they will see in the conference, that should only help our dbacks. A commitment to getting better in the offseason will go a long way. No excuses for anyone leaving Grand Forks.

Coaching needs to improve. Plain and simple.

We saw the best the conference has to offer. Now we need to recruit the kids that will help us be successful. There are a number of talented local kids in the area this year who will be contributors down the road. Lets start with them.

  13. No road win is easy. Especially on the road. Boys will have to play tough today. Get some pressure and the offense can't turn it over. UNC will have revenge on their minds from last year. Will be a tough win, but I think we get it done today.

    UND-34

    UNC-28

  14. You guys always try to compare yourselves to us and fail miserably every time. Did you see the 20 or 25 thousand Bison fans at the Dome for the MN game? Twice! We had 15,800 at the SUU game - so you're using that to explain your poor attendance this year? We're sold out for every game this year and we have more people tailgating than you average per fb game. I've talked to lots of hockey fans and they all say there are lots of open seats when playing bottom teams.

And there are open seats in the dome but those tickets are still payed for correct? Its my hope that as conferencemate recognition improves and the team improves, attendance will as well. I guess we'll see. UNI wasn't seen as a heated game by FU fans until after the sideline incident. As a FU fan pointed out above, things like that take time.

Back to your post though, unless a lot of people were dressed as blue seatbacks against SIU this year, there were plenty of open seats in the Fargodome.
