  1. Read what he said, people pack in the rows and stand the whole game so the seats are irrelevant. So if there are say 50 seats in a row there may be more like 70-75 kids standing in that row. Multiply that by 5-10 rows and it adds up.

I read what he said. They must be tiny students if you can fit 20-25 extra people in a row.

  2. gives out 3,800 I believe. Easily over half considering 2,000 were claimed Monday, I imagine AT MOST another 1,000 were claimed, probably fewer. Also, people cram into the lower section, maybe an extra hundred at the most(aisle areas and filling in rows so people can't sit). If people are sitting in the endzone area, that is a pretty good sign that more than half of the section is full.

    Get back on topic homer.

Your telling me there was roughly 800 seats open? OK.

Topic is student turnout. UND has been over their free student alotment for 3 of their home games, right around it for 1 and below it for the 5th and will probably be below it for the 6th. I went to the FU game with family and wanted to see how FU students turned out, based on your comments the last couple weeks I expected the sections to be full. They left plenty of seats open as well. A ton of open rows above the section entrances and not many in the endzones besides the band. Point is, you have the #1 team in the country and they still can't get students to turn out. A percentatge of them that were there left at half. Its the same scene I see when I attend games at UND yet you come on here and try and tell us all about our student turnout.

  3. Last weekend was not very good. Though compared to UND.....very much to be proud of. Probably only about 3,000 tops. We make noise however. And the early season beatdowns did nothing to add to the student section. SDSU game should be pretty rocking. Playoffs should be very impressive if we are once again at home.

    Thank you.

FU gives out 6,000 student tickets? I was only using my eyes but you'll have to try pretty hard to convince me the student sections were half full.

  4. This is really sad.

Johnny, I was at the FU game last weekend and your student turnout is nothing to take a lot of pride in. Not many students in the top half of the section and none in the endzones. I wouldn't be commenting too much on student turnout at other schools.

  5. So are we going to have to throw for 400+ to win this one or are we going to have success running the ball like we did last season against this same team?

I'm going out on a limb and predicting Miller has similar numbers to last year and our offense gets back on track.

  6. Mediocrity is setting into the Sioux Football program. Remember, it took 4-5 years for Roger Thomas to dig us out of the 6 year hole left by Pat Burns. If things don't change and soon we need to get used to 7000 home crowds with a disinterested student body. It is telling that with a Big Sky opponent coming here for a game, the only interest in football on the Siouxsports site is this thread. If we get complacent, it will be a long black hole for Sioux Football.

I'm not completely disagreeing with you but your basing your interest in UND football based on what 25-50 people with fake names write on a message board. That tells me nothing other than some people have more time on their hands than others.

  7. For me it all comes back to the fact that we won't be able to afford leaving 10-15 easy points out there just on poor free throw shooting alone this year. I'm really excited for this basketball season.

    Any word on Nash yet?

  8. If Kleason red-shirted voluntarily his freshman year, it's doubtful he would be eligible for a sixth year.

Thanks for the help on that. I guess I don't really know the rules behind a medical redshirt. I assumed he could apply since an injury kept him sidelined since before fall camp but did not know how that worked.

  9. Per Tom Miller- Darren Deneui is out for the year. Kleason may come back.

Whats everyone's thoughts on this? Worth bringing Kleason back for two games? He was our best o-linemen last year. While I am sure he is chomping at the bit to get back out and play, I'd love to have him for a full season if a medical redshirt is possible.

  10. Southern Utah comes into Grand Forks fresh off a win vs. #1 Eastern Washington.

    Offensive rankings:

    Total offense- 363 yds/gm (67th)

    Passing offense- 283 yds/gm (16th)

    Rushing offense- 80 yds/gm (115th)

    Defensive rankings:

    Total defense- 443 yds/gm (103rd)

    Passing defense- 264 yds/gm- (108th)

    Rushing defense- 178 yds/gm- (86th)

  11. I agree, lets bounce back and send these guys out the right way. Anyone who puts the time in deserves to go out on top. I'll be very disappointed if we play flat this week. Not a better day than senior day for these guys to lead and every one else to follow and make some plays. No excuses this week.

  12. In my opinion no. When the fans get into a game in that building you will be hard pressed to find anything louder. I am also a big fan of the skywalks in the endzone. I can bring the kid to a game and when he starts to get restless I can take him up there, let him run and still have a great view of the game. The view from up there is actually probably better than from most of the seats.

  13. I was simple building on what geaux_sioux said and some things a few of my friends from UND have said. I wasn't looking for an argument, and I doubt many people here would disagree with what I said regarding students especially. If I was looking for an argument I'd have said something along the lines of, "UND students will never care about non-hockey sports." I don't believe that though, so I didn't say that.

You have been on this board telling UND fans who have attended every game this season what is wrong with every game this season. It gets old. I know student turnout at FU isn't perfect. I know they face the same challenges for your own schools main sport so the finger pointing at UND from you followed by the "I wasn't trying to start anything act" gets old.

  14. I think Molberg will be more similar to Hendrickson than to Hanson in the fact that he'll bring some mobility to the position. I watched two of his games last year at Detroit Lakes and he also has some touch on the short to intermediate routes and is pretty accurate so maybe he'll be a combination of the two. I'm also kind of excited about Bartels. He had some offers from MVFC schools and was pretty highly rated within IL. We already had Molberg signed when he committed so the coaching staff must have seen something in him as well. I'm hoping those two push each other as only good can come out of that. Next year its wide open and the best man will win.

  15. McGill is too valuable at WR. He is probably my favorite to watch because he is as hard nosed as they come and really does everything at WR you could ask even with him being on the small side. He is the perfect slot WR and I can't wait until he gets back.

  16. What your coworkers were complaining about was that there were empty student seats. We did not fill up the entire section. Probably about 2800-3000 of the 3800 seats were occupied. No obvious difference until Jensen's last interception which led the dome to empty itself. The second half will always be less full than the first half, even if ever so slightly.

Thank you for clarifying what my coworkers were complaining about. I appreciate you clearing up a conversation you had no part of.

  17. This years team has done a much better job of engaging the students from the very start of the school year. From helping freshmen move into the dorms to the high fives after games. I can't really blame students for not showing up in years past during the early part of the transition. I've been a season ticket holder since than and we can't kid ourselves, our team wasn't very good and games were boring to watch.

The steps that the team and program are taking to engage the student body off the field and put faces to names, along with a much improved product on the field that is winning and much more exciting to watch, I think are going to go a long ways. Student turnout this year, while not great, is so much better than the last couple years its not even funny. The students who are attending are much more engaged and the athletic dept. (Jason Hajdu) a few changes can/will be made to further improve the experience.

I think a big one would be to not dress true freshmen for home games and have them sit in the student section. Let them lead or join in on the cheers and let the students see how much the games mean to these guys.

  18. Depends. If it is a blowout, then people start to head out either at halftime or throughout the third quarter. If the game is good, you don't see a huge dropoff from where I am(first few rows). What you guys have been describing on here seems outlandish and we haven't had that issue before in my time in Fargo. Leaving a game at halftime when it is close en masse? Sad.

I'm going to throw the bull$%!# flag on this one. Not going to get into why but I know the student attendance in Fargo hasn't always been great and students have not always stuck around. I believe it was around the USD game 2 or 3 years ago that things began to change for the better but you still get some emptying out at half. I have co-workers bitching about it after Indiana St a coupe weeks ago.

  19. JOOC, who's FU??

Per the Summit league's new branding strategy they are calling their schools by the city location they are in. Its a similar branding strategy that is used by the leagues the Fargo RedHawks, Fargo Force and Bismarck Bobcats play in. FU=Fargo University

  20. SNOWING today. Don't forget your cold weather gear

Don't forget UND fans. The CATS are coming off a bitter loss to the #1 team in the nation and have had 2 entire weeks to think about it.

I know it gets chilly in Bozeman and you get a lot of snow but have you ever been to Grand Forks in the winter? I'm not concerned about the snow or cold weather affecting our mindset going into the game. All the guys making the trip have seen snow before and have experinced a negative sign in front of the temperature it will be on Saturday.

It could be 75 and sunny and I'd still be worried about our defense however.

  21. As a recent UND alumni who enjoyed football and tailgating while there and has now moved on to law school at a Big10 university I feel like the big things that students want are not easily fixed. However here they are:

    1. Play schools people have actually heard of. Sorry but Montana is not a school people have actually heard of. Thats just the way it goes. You need teams that people grew up watching.

    4. Have food and drink available for purchase at tailgating. Right now tailgating feels like a grand forks resident only club. I was lucky enough to have friends and family in the area to tailgate with but it often feels like a GF only club.

    1. At the FCS level there are not many programs more well known than Montana.

2 & 3- You could mark it down, an outdoor on campus stadium would do nothing for attendance.

    4. Fans around the tailgating area are more than willing to chat with anyone and share anything they have. While I don't disagree that selling food and drink may help, if you felt that tailgating was a GF only club it was your own fault. I'm not from GF and have shown up every week for tailgating and never had a problem finding someone to tailgate with.

    5. I don't disagree. I don't think anyone is trying to compete with hockey.

  22. Next season, neither Jake Miller nor Jer Garmin will be starting at RB; there will be a transfer or JUCO player - I can almost guarantee it. Mussman has made it known in the last couple of weeks that the talent level needs improvement. I'd say he definitely looks for a runningback, defensive back, and even a JUCO QB to add depth.

This leads to something I was thinking on the drive back from Grand Forks after the game. UND returns 5 WR's next season and has 2 talented RFr. that will be getting playing time. If I'm an FBS QB who is looking to transfer this year for whatever reason, with the HUGE numbers Hanson has put up this season, knowing that you have all these WR coming back and pretty much an entire starting Oline returning, UND has to be a school you look at right? I know we have Molberg and Bartels who I think one of the two is going to be a stud but if another Braden Hanson comes knocking and we need to add an older QB, we take a look right.

Also, I agree, I think 3 positions se a JUCO this year. Running back, DB and LB. I have no problem trying to plug a hole going that route as a temperary fix but we didn't put to much focus on the secondary recruiting last season and we need to start to develop some players there.
