  1. Athletic success equals big time positive publicity for the school and more kids want to go there. It kinda bolsters academics by getting more students.

Was that the intent when this bill was passed. The same argument could be made for facilities but the state wants nothing to do with that.

    I think your reaching.

  2. So Hak going to another Frozen four, Brewster going to the dance, Hardee going to the top of the BSC is all because of coaching while Jones and Muss struggled because of the nickname issue?

You give Jones and Muss/Schweigert the support/facilities hockey has and its a different deal.  Thats a poor comparison.

  3. We can probably look at who they played for those wins.  Road wins are over Idaho (7th place), SUU (10th), and MSU (12th).

Their only home win is over Idaho State (11th).

That pretty well explains why they are in 9th place in the Big Sky.  About right where they belong according to the schedule.

I don't think we beat the 7th, 10th and 12th place teams on the road last year with a much more experienced team.

  4. If Grady proves to be as good as advertised in Fall Camp, there's no way Bubba can't pull his redshirt can he? Kid has way to much talent and wee need O lineman that can establish our run game.

Bubba has said multiple times, best kids at each position will play regardless of what class they are in. If any true freshman proves he can play, he will.

  5. It was touched on briefly last night that Jeremy Webb lives with his brother in Chicago who plays for the Bears.  Chicago Sun Times had a really good article on the situation a while back, it is worth a read.  Apparently Webb didn't play football his sophomore or junior year.  Seems like he knows what his goals are and living with his brother helps him realize the work it takes to achieve them.

When I read that article a while back, it just came across as a kid having a real solid head on his shoulders and will understand the work it takes to succeed.  Whether he signed at UND or elsewhere, after reading that you just wanted the kid to get an opportunity.

  6. I never even caught that until you mentioned it.   That is more than a little disconcerting.   While I really like this class, I strongly feel that there were a lot of good players we missed out on, and WI has traditionally been good for recruits.    We can't be conceding whole areas like this on recruiting battles.    As I said, I like what we got, but we really won't know for a couple years, and I hope we weren't just picking up what ever we could get to fill spots.   Right or wrong, the lack of other offers always makes a person wonder.

What kid didn't have any offers that concerns you?  Whats the magic number?  Do D2 offers count?  What schools matter?

I think the key thing is that our coaches are getting kids to camp.  We didn't throw out 150 offers this year like years past.

  7. Must be a bitch living in the shadow of one of the greatest FCS FB programs ever!!  Keep believing Bubbles "we only recruit players that don't have any offers" BS.  There's a reason for that.... Figure it out..

Where did Bubba say they only recruit players with no offers?

  8. Tough to rank 5.  I think the coaches did a good job addressing needs.  Really have to be excited about the OL that were signed.  Different looking OL group than years past.  Engwall will be a good DL for us and hopefully the staff is able to retain Greer.  Looking at WR, Georges, Dulin and Santiago are athletic.  Reed looks like he could fill that toughness role that McGill brought the last few years before injury.  We got better at DB and LB.

Only concern will be depth at RB.  Would still like to see another transfer prior to next season.

  9. Must not have got any recruits that were visiting yesterday to come on board. Maybe we aren't going to use our last 2 or 3 spots till the very end when we see what is available. Just because someone makes a visit, does that mean we are going to offer? I would assume we are still evaluating them on the visit(personality or how they seem to fit in). I trust the staff.

It was a small group and the two we know of aren't real active on twitter so it's hard to say. The coaches have not been as active with commitments either. Things are hopefully quiet until Wednesday.

  10. Why is Coleman not playing more?   He has had 4 straight solid games and is only averaging 14 minutes/game.  He is averaging about 7 points/game and only playing 14 minutes and shooting almost 60% from the floor these past 4 games and was 2nd on the team in rebounds last night only playing 14 minutes.  Project his numbers playing 25-28 minutes a game and he would be leading this team in several categories.  I also wish DeRouen would shoot a shot in balance, his shot is always off balance fading and kicking his legs out and never looks set.  Still do not understand Jones rotation as the players are fading at the end of so many games.

Agree with this.  Coleman was solid last night.  Getting him more minutes at the 3 would let Jones get a better rotation with the guards.  It would also help with our biggest weakness.

  11. Not trolling at all. The NCAA wouldnt allow the stipend if it would have meant those who received it would be considered professional. That would have opened up a can of worms the NCAA didnt want. Nor would the NFL.

They are getting paid above the cost of tuition. The NCAA is allowing it because they have lost control of the large schools and this is what they want.
