  1. Wow... It must be the off season.
  2. I am torn. I guess I am in the no nickname camp, but not because I have some illogical belief that we could get Fighting Sioux back, simply because I think the other five names we have to pick from suck.
  3. Just playing Devil's Advocate... According to the NDSU website, the school has 14,000 students from 48 states and 69 countries (https://www.ndsu.edu/admission/) According to the UND website, the school has nearly 15,000 students from 50 states and 84 countries (http://und.edu/discover/) So I think that your statement that people outside of Grand Forks city limits don't even know the UND exists is a huge exaggeration. I agree that some of the coaches are not held to the same standards. When I attended UND from 2004-2008 I loved going to the sporting events. I went to every hockey and football game, some basketball games, some women's hockey games, and a handful of soccer, baseball, and volleyball games. If I went to UND today would I attend as many events? Maybe, but I can't say that for sure. I love college hockey. I would still attend all the men's games, and as many of the women's game as I was able. As much as I enjoyed college football, I SIGNIFICANTLY like pro football better and when your team is getting creamed on a weekly basis, the fun quickly wears off (and I don't drink so it isn't like I would be outside partying). If the teams can't put a good, competitive game on the field/court/etc it isn't going to be entertaining and people aren't going to want to go. We can't bite the hand that feeds us (men's hockey) and if we need to offer FCOA to get the recruits and stay competitive in hockey, then so be it. Might the other programs get slight less money? Probably. But they also aren't making any money. Money doesn't just grow on trees (or so my parents told me)... What do we need to do to increase our exposure and success in athletics and as an institution? Raise coaches salaries to be more competitive, and upgrade facilities (both athletic and academic), advertising... How are we supposed to get the money to do all of this? Charge more for tickets? Raise tuition? I am sure the school and athletic department would be all ears
  4. I would be so amused to see UND select a new nickname and then fans continue Sioux chants and see the NCAA try and do something about it. How can that be possible? Even if the NCAA personally bought me a new hockey jersey from whatever lame nickname we end up with I would still wear my Fighting Sioux jersey. Get a better new nickname option and people may not be so resistant to moving on...
  5. So we should poll the elementary students who will have to live with this? And are you saying alumni vote doesn't matter either because we have moved on and don't live there anymore???
  6. I was just going to post this article and ask why we weren't talking to this kid... Seems like he could be a very nice pick up
  7. I too think the Vikings will be second in the division. The Bears seem like they are falling apart and the Lions aren't consistent enough to predict anything. Who knows though. I am ready for some football!
  8. I don't want to end up as another dog mascot... You and I know that isn't what a sundog is, but we also know that we would end up with a dog logo and/or mascot.
  9. Although it looks like this is just an evaluation camp based on the pic in the link above
  10. Yes, per USA Hockey's desires and exposure abilities.
  11. because if the University does not own the trademark then anybody can legally make Fighting Sioux merchandise and sell it. Then there would be new Fighting Sioux stuff everywhere.
  12. Ugh I am months behind but I finally thought of a decent name to suggest... The Artic Raptors.
  13. Not sure if I am crazy or it but I swear yesterday that I read so lime to ng that said Kelley could add names if he wanted. Can anyone help me find that?
  14. Oh good... The football players won't starve anymore *insert eye roll here*
  15. Great article in this month's Delta Sky magazine about North Dakota. http://deltaskymag.delta.com/Sky-Extras/City-Profiles.aspx
  16. Apparently it is your opinion that trumps everyone who disagrees with you, as you repeatedly tell him he is wrong. As a UND alumni and non-North Dakotan, I don't care at all about Red River. If the local community can't differentiate between UND and Red River HIGH SCHOOL, we have bigger issues.
  17. I think games in London are dumb and hope the NFL realizes this soon. Most teams don't want to give up the home game. The traveling and jet lag is hard on the players. And the British doesn't understand the game. My coworker went last year when the Lions played and said the British people's favorite part was when they kicked field goals.
  18. Dang... I tune in a little late and miss everything!
