  1. Although UND isn't (yet) on UM's regional opponents list, appears Minnesota is rethinking scheduling local IAA's like NDSU, SDSU, USD, UNI, etc: http://www.in-forum.com/articles/index.cfm?id=166452 It might be about getting walkon recruits (that out otherwise go to IAA's) as anything else.
  2. Lacrosse is really beginning to show some parity. Duke made it to the Final Four after last season was cancelled. Delaware is a surprise. Johns Hopkins struggled with a "western" team before winning in overtime. Some of the major traditional powers (Princeton, Maryland, Virginia) have lost and Syracuse didn't even make the field.

    Gas Prices

PRAIRIE VOICES: High gas prices: Economist explains it all In the last 30 years, not one new refinery has been built in the U.S. A small refinery with a low environmental footprint was proposed for the Fort Berthold Reservation (west of Makoti) in 2001. In 2007, there are still possibly several years of permitting to complete before the construction begins (if it even happens). Mandan - Hidatsa - Arikara Proposed Refinery http://www.epa.gov/region8/compliance/nepa/refinerydeis.html Until recently, oil companies had invested more in exploration than in refinery capacity, in large part because of the numerous environmental constraints on expansion. Expansion is occurring overseas.
  4. N.D. braces to harness wind energy High energy prices do have their benefits for North Dakota:
  5. Kupchella complied with Dunn's request. Chapman was insubordinate to Dunn's request. Strange that subject wasn't the bone of contention between Dunn and Chapman. Face the facts that any reasonable person could have determined years ago: Chapman gets ahead by undermining others and has many megalomaniac traits all while polishing his public persona of grandfatherliness. But since Chapman's actions serve to get NDSU "ahead", you and others will support him at any ethical cost.
  6. Here's the correspondence between Dunn and Chapman: http://www.in-forum.com/pdfs/Media%20request%205-18-07.pdf Chapman seemed to be playing every trick possible to drive a wedge between Dunn and the Board, misrepresenting, distorting facts and using John Q. Paulsen to poison the board toward Dunn. Dunn finally had to resort to tape recording their phone conversation on Chapman appraisal so Chapman couldn't misrepresent Dunn's statements. Chapman refused to accept the phone call, even though Chapman had ample time to change the discussion time. Some things never change: [url="http://www.grandforksherald.com/articles/index.cfm?id=38323
  7. On Thursday: Bozeman Chronicle: Drug ring consisting of former MSU athletes busted
  8. With past drug issues, criminal activity, and the lastest scholarship cuts from the NCAA, it is not surprising that Montana State fired its coach, but why did it wait so long? MSU Football Coach Contract Terminated Quite a strongly worded press release:
  9. Seems Board President John Q. Paulsen is again implicated as a Chapman crony: http://www.grandforksherald.com/articles/i...ection=homepage How long before the character assassination of Dunn begins in the Forum and within "Bisonville"?
  10. Mens's Basketball: UND signs three to National Letters of Intent
  11. Argus-Leader Any others definites beyond USD, UC-Davis, and SUU? Would presume that WWU, CWU, W Oregon, or Humboldt St could be brought in for home games.
  12. A couple of stories from Arkansas State: Arkansas newspaper article posted on SunBelt Board
  13. Correction: from its inception in 1999, Europe has been the exclusive U18 host. Canada has yet to host an U18 championship
  14. A WDAZ report last night quoted Chris Semrau, who stated that the REA would likely bid on the Juniors and U18 championships. The U18 championships attract relatively low crowds, even in Canada, but they would be the most beneficial to the Sioux program.
  15. http://www.usahockey.com/usa_hockey/main_s..._wchost_051407/ Three events for the REA to consider hosting:
  16. Seattle Times: Seattle U. seeking return to glory days When SU's President asked about conferences: That's the first time Seattle has been associated with the Big Sky by an official source. The Pac-10 reference is almost certainly related to Olympic sports, as the Pac-10 has affiliates in them. Seattle U probably wouldn't receive objections from any Big Sky school. If the WCC truly rejected SU, the Big Sky now has academically appealing options to expand in the west that coud also appeal to Denver U (Utah Valley State and S. Utah are not academically appealing options.) Tacoma News-Tribune: Seattle U decides Division I or bust This report confirms that SU had no intentions of considering any other conference but the WCC. SU reconsidered, so the Big Sky / SU match has to be a possibility. This change further reduces the possiblity of the Sky ever moving east.
  17. No. The World Juniors will stay around Christmas/New Years. I believe what nodakvindy was referring to was the possiblity of Winnipeg / Grand Forks cohosting the World Championships, which are held annually in May (where Toews is) usually in European cities. The World Championships are much larger events (16 teams vs 10 for juniors) with more traveling fans, so typically more than one major venue is needed. The World Championships are for the first time being rotated out of Europe (Halifax is hosting next year), so possibly a US (or US/Canada cohost) bid from venues without NHL/AHL teams would be considered, like an REA/Mariucci bid.
  18. Atlanta Journal-Constitution Doesn't appear that UWG will declare this year. So the DI classmates of UND appear to be: South Dakota SIU-Edwardsville Seattle Houston Baptist (move from NAIA makes their transition longer) Here's a listing of the previous DI classes:Multidivision, Reclassifying and Provisional Institutions
  19. Winnipeg Sun: Flood Series, Part 4, Grand Forks
  20. Wow, a tribute to the Engelstad family from the Fargo Forum: [url=http://www.in-forum.com/Opinion/articles/165188]Forum Editorial: Engelstad
  21. Seattle Times: Seattle U. approves bid for Division I If not the WCC, Seattle U's other short term options would seem to be the Big West (but it is all-California with only one private), the Big Sky (as a non-football member), and, much further down the road, the WAC (non-football member). An SU / UBC partnership would seemingly make travel sense in some cases.
  22. "Summit", sounds suspiciously like a case of BIG Sky Envy .... ...
