Not that it means much, but from the last poll, only nine of the top 25 rated schools remain: 1. Florida Gulf Coast University - 22 1 29-0 622 2. Glenville State College (W. Va.) - 1 2 30-2 587 3. University of North Dakota - 2 3 29-3 574 4. Delta State University (Miss.) 5 28-3 529 5. Washburn University (Kan.) 6 26-3 524 7. Southern Connecticut State University 7 28-2 471 11. California State University, Chico 13 22-4 355 12. University of California, San Diego 14 21-4 343 16. Clayton State University (Ga.) 18T 25-5 256 Of the two rated above UND, Florida Gulf Coast has played an extraordinarily weak (independent) schedule, but has blown out almost all their opponents. FGCU may encounter its first major test when it plays Delta State in the South final. Glenville State, which plays in the normally weak West Virginia conference, has lost to its only real OOC opponents: MSU-Moorhead and Washburn. If UND and FGCU both make it out of their regions, they will be playing each other in the First Round. Massey Ratings also give FGCU the top rating, but it confirms their schedule strength is unusually weak. 1 FL Gulf Coast 28 0 1.456 (1) 0.73 (188) D2 Ind 2 Lewis 27 3 1.339 (2) 2.92 (1) GLVC 3 S Connecticut 25 2 1.283 (3) 2.33 (17) NE 10 4 North Dakota 26 3 1.263 (4) 2.54 (8) N Cent 5 MO Western 27 2 1.260 (5) 2.17 (34) MIAA 6 Washburn 24 3 1.225 (6) 2.37 (13) MIAA 7 Augustana SD 22 4 1.137 (7) 2.05 (42) N Cent 8 CS Bakersfield 21 6 1.107 (8) 2.42 (11) CCAA 9 Glenville St 29 2 1.071 (9) 1.15 (125) WVIAC 10 N Kentucky 21 7 1.033 (10) 2.62 (5) GLVC 11 Drury 22 8 1.029 (11) 2.70 (3) GLVC 12 UC San Diego 21 4 1.028 (12) 2.04 (43) CCAA 13 Emporia St 21 6 1.027 (13) 2.44 (10) MIAA 14 W Texas A&M 28 4 1.019 (14) 1.75 (70) LSC 15 CS Chico 19 4 0.969 (15) 1.93 (54) CCAA 16 Stonehill 22 7 0.965 (16) 2.17 (35) NE 10 17 Bentley 21 7 0.954 (17) 2.27 (26) NE 10 18 South Dakota 20 7 0.952 (18) 2.26 (28) N Cent 19 Gannon 22 5 0.947 (19) 1.92 (57) GLIAC 20 Pace 23 8 0.924 (20) 2.16 (36) NE 10 21. http://media.www.dakotastudent.com/media/s...406-page2.shtml So there's talk of building a new basketball arena? Let's see: Indoor practice facility: $10-15 million Football stadium: $60 - 80 million Basketball arena: $40 - 60 million Parking ramp #2: $20 million All this "talk" would cost more than $150 million to put it in action. Yet there is also talk of a more than a half billion endowment within a half decade.

Hennessey put up numbers like that on the D? Her stats list her as a forward. How telented is she?

A local blog has a good scoop on three new UND building projects: Student Union Addition COBPA Building Aerospace Housing http://grandforkslife.blogspot.com/

Coulnd't this be a bigger hurdle than the rest of the field?

MidCon - Tuesday - 7PM ET, 6 PM Central, 5 PM MT, but ESPN Big Sky - Wed, 9 PM ET, 8 PM Central, 7 PM MT, but ESPN2 For television rankings, the Big Sky actually has the better setup (but not by much, when comparing ESPN vs ESPN2).

Portland State may follow the same pattern that Long Beach State had: Long Beach State hired former Redskin coach George Allen. Allen brought moderate success to Long Beach. After Allen resigned after getting sick (ironically after players soaked him with Gatorade at the finale of a winning season), Long Beach State dropped football. Long Beach State football fans wanted one last attempt to make football work: they got it, but still failed. Portland State next?

Big Sky - 1. Denver 2. UND 3. UBC 4. USD 5. SUU (moves higher if Sac and PSU both leave before 2010) 6. USVC Mid-Con - (to 12) 1. SIUe/USD 3. NKU/Bellarmine 5. UVSC/OklaCityU (replacement) 1. UTPA

Why no rebuke of MplsBison for his insistence that UND is heading to the MidCon? As far as inside UND information, read a Steve Hallstrom blog from last summer. UND administrators had to have high assurance of obtaining conference membership before they made the move, otherwise they wouldn't do it. Unlike NDSU and SDSU, failure by UND to find a conference leaves no safety net (the NCC). UND did not move up based on a strategy of hope, as one poster puts it. Too much was at stake.

Williston had by far the top line in the state, and in girls hockey, there really isn't a difference between East and West. Rachel Hennessey, SO of Williston, may very well be the next ND recruit. IMHO, Grand Forks is a UND town, period. Central and Red River HS sports don't get citizen spectators that other cities do because of UND athletic options. GF citizens are less likely to attend HS tournaments because they aren't into HS sports as much. As far as basketball, UND draws as well as NDSU (if not better, considering the metro populations). Bismarck and Minot are much more into high school sports, so state tournaments create more excitement among citizens. When visitors come to the host city, they want the host community to be excited about the tournament. Bismarck and Minot provide that and their citizens are much more likely to take interest in the tournament, even if they don't attend. Fargo is more of a bandwagon town- the "in" thing will draw. Fargo High Schools, much like GF HS's, don't travel well.

NanoBison, Lakesbison, JBB, BisonBacker, DIinFargo, KChats, Iowabison, NorthDakotabison, NDSUbison, NDSUFREAK, Bison Dan, CABisonfan, Uni_of_No_Diks, SDBison, Gothmog, The Bisonator (not to mention NDSU fans attempting to pass as "Sioux" fans on this board) etc., etc., etc. A number of them even wrote letters to the ND State Government or local newspapers warning officials of the massive UND athletic deficit. But I will correct my statement: "The hate is massively one-sided."
-
UND administrators are privy to inside information on the Big Sky that you aren't, MplsBison. UND/Denver will be a good next pair for the Big Sky, IMHO.
-
NDSU has a heated "rivalry" with SDSU. No way would there be anti-UND chants at a NDSU/SDSU game, now would there? The idea of anti-NDSU chants at UND games when we're not playing them is absurd. The hate is all one-sided.

Thought NDSU fans had "moved on?"

Appears there was some serious substance behind the possibility of Portland State dropping football. With the hiring of Jerry Glanville, Portland State seems to be rolling the dice: either upgrade football, or if it fails, drop football. From Honolulu Star-Bulletin comments by June Jones, Hawaii's head football coach (and former Portland State quarterback): TheOregonian strongly implies PSU football will either be upgraded or dropped: Oregonian columnist John Canzano blog: So with success, Portland State/Glanville want to move up to IA, or with failure, Portland State would drop football. In either case, Portland State's days in the Big Sky appear numbered. So how about the odds of UND in the Big Sky now?

This has got to be great news for UND: the NCAA is fearful of a public relations problem. For the NCAA to implement this nickname policy, there had to be obtuse and twisted logic and possibly personal agendas that would be evident in the NCAA documents. Public exposure of the process could damage the NCAA's reputation and harm the careerism within its ranks. The NCAA may also want to shield itself from the wrath of Florida State and its high level political supporters, if more specific insights into NCAA's agenda are released.

DII Northern Kentucky has to be one of the more attractive DI move-up possibilities. With the basketball arena they are building in surburban Cincinnati, NKU has to be looking for a move up and would have to be garnering some attention from the MidCon, among others. Midwest schools to watch for a move up are Bellarmine from Louisville, Southern Indiana in Evansville, and Wayne State in Detroit. NKU's Bank of Kentucky Center:

Isn't eight seniors actually an enviable position for the exploratory year? The following year, Jones could bring in a class with 2 or 3 DI-ineligible JC transfer (who if they sign by July 1st, would be able to play DI), 1-2 DI transfers (who, if signed by July 1st, would be immediately eligible for the DI transition) as well as 4-5 HS recruits, that if they redshirt, would actually be eligible for post-season play in their senior year.

No surprise here. It would be a public relations disaster for NDSU not to resume the game in 2009. Taylor knows it.
