  1. I very much agree we need to expand the recruiting base which I am sure is easier said than done being we are still in transition. Another thing to remember is that during the Kimbrough/Langen/Bagaason recruiting years, Region 8 in Minnesota was a power house with 3 of the top ranked teams in the state in that region. BGMR/Kittson Central/Fosston had domination for several years and only one of those teams could make it to state. Luckily I am sure proximity to home played a big part in all of their decisons as Kimbrough and Langen and possibly Bagaasan could have went to many established DI programs. That caliber of player doesn't come around that often unfortunatley and is reflected by the teams currently playing in Region 8. Not even close to the talent of a few years ago. I am sure that can be said for ND too. I think they have found many gems from MN and very close to UND, but that doesn't seem to be the case recently. Obviously keep your eye out for local talent, but definitly need to broaden our horizons. Getting into the Summit L:eague would help I would think and I do think Brewster is an asset for recruiting, but I am sure it is very competitive and I think we are going to struggle for a few years so not having success doesn't help either.
  2. I would have to agree. I know our perimiter shooting can be streaky and when Bagaasan and Youngblut are on they are some of the best, but missing a ton of high percentage shots is not going to get it done against anybody much less Greenbay, ASU etc. And if we are going to miss, we need to make free throws!!!! As you have stated and Roebuck too, it will be a different type of ball the Sioux play this year compared to years past, but hopefuly we will turn into a 3 point dominant threat like USD a few years ago where there is no true post but you have to spread the defense and bring their big girls out. Otherwise it could be a long season. Go Sioux!!
  3. I will not be able to make it to the game and I see there is no radio coverage for tonight either. Updates and input on how the team looks would be appreciated if anyone can. Go Sioux!
  4. This is news to me too...if that's the case, why don't St. Cloud, UMD, Bemidji, Mankato etc have to either demote hockey or promote their other sports?? Or is hockey an exception? I would say in the case of WBB, the dominance of the Northern Sun has everything to do with the dissolution of the NCC. The National Championship Mavericks are a former NCC team, that in my opinion, would have had a much harder chance of reaching the elite 8 with UND and USD still in their conference, not to mention NDSU and SDSU. Of the teams that advanced to the regional tournament, 3 were former NCC teams. I am not familiar with all of the Northern Sun teams, but the only one I thought I saw was MSU-Moorhead. Definitely still the aftermath of NCC dominance I think.
  5. Where I was at, they only showed the last 1:38 or so of the game....I think the coverage and commentators get so biased with the usual powerhouses that I can only imagine sometimes reffing does too. They should be very proud, but it was very hard to find much on them on tv..You'd think after tying the record for 16 3's in a game along with ISU, they would have gotten a little more love...or maybe i just missed it. Yet they will show almost an entire UConn blowout. Boring! Didn't have the opportunity to see much of the Ball State game either. It looked on the score ticker that they hung pretty well for a while than must have faded. Very impressive for both Ball State and especially the Jacks.
  6. It looks like the recruiting is going in the right direction. I do think there is going to have to be a reshuffling of scholarships somehow, whether that be people losing them, etc. It is hard to say what the red shirt members will do as we haven't seen them play. We have 2 that will be doing serious rehab and there availability is a question. Of the 8 available at the end of the season, playing time was still very limited for some. The only for sures I think we have are Bagasaan, Youngblut, Bergan ,Seay and Lof. (Ledger and Privratsky if they are healed.) The rest I feel could be up for grabs.
  7. I myself think the UND women are pretty legit...that being said..congrats to the Bison men. This will mean a lot of $ for them and will only help with their future. Hope most of the fans got there before they closed I-29...that was unfortunate. It was a great game to watch and I wish them well at the big dance!
  8. Thanks for this info. How do you get it, is there a site to go to? I see there have been some individual stats for rankings in the nations, etc. That would be interesting to see. Would you mind giving the web site or how to do it...please
  9. I think most people would like to see UND play USD again too..that's turned into a pretty good rivalry!
  10. You know...after listening to both games on the radio...wasn't sure who our announcers were for...Salley may be a great player and I can appreciate that but we are losing two of the best players to ever wear a Sioux jersey..I'd rather talk about that...to Miss Guinn and Miss Kimbrough...thanks and best wishes!!!
  11. This is terrible news for Whitney and the team. I only hope the news today is better for her. If not, this reduces the bench to 3??? Hopfully this is the end of injuries for this season!
  12. OT!!! 70-70 Kimbrough fouled out, Bagaasan playing outstanding!
  13. Well if this doesn't inspire people to support the women's team....I recall seeing in the paper last year that the women were booed and had to dodge debris when leaving the floor....let's show them some fans with class AND break the attendance record!! blog
  14. Not to quibble, but I only see 5 players with 4 or more, one with 7 (ouch)...still too many turnovers. On the positive side, we shot better, Ledger finishing on her shots and Kimbrough with a consecutive double-double. I am sure they are happy to be headed home for a few games. After reading the article yesterday on Crookston, that might be more of a game than first thought. GO SIOUX!!
  15. Very impressive...hope they carry that momentum into the 2nd half..(minus the missed lay-ups)
  16. Thanks for the updates...keep 'em coming.
  17. I had it on prior to the game and now it says blacked out...anyone else having that problem...that stinks!! GO SIOUX!!
  18. Of course it is. UND in hockey is the Duke of basketball. Recruiting is not nearly as hard, because kids want to come to UND because of the success. Hockey very much is the darling of UND. They spend, I'm sure, far more on marketing, etc and were lucky enough to get a fantastic facility. As for the other sports, especially now with being ineligible, it is hard to recruit. Who wants to enjoy the balmy winters of ND. Success makes for fututre success (easier recruiting, more support, more exposure) I feel bad for the drop in attendance especially for UND WBB. If WBB was still playing a DII schedule, I'm sure they would be ranked in the nation and doing what we are used to. I think considering the schedule, thay are doing as expected, if not a little better. They had no desire to move up, our recruiting the past 2 years has not been great for whatever reason, we are playing more talented athletes, and we can't get any support. I do think it will get better, but if fans could stick it out and support them, that in itself helps with recruiting because at least you play in front of a crowd.
  19. sounds like the officiating was HORRIBLE!!!
  20. The travel arrangement didn't work out too well either and a 1:oo game on a Monday is not ideal but I agree this could be a great chance for them to come away with a win on the road. GO SIOUX!
