  1. not really a poll yet...but interesting.... Unbeatens remaining from pre-season poll
  2. This problem does not seem to plague the women's program...why is that? The women's program is heavy with local talent, some of which I'm sure turned down D-1 offers. Is it that there is more talent locally on the women's side or it could be that the women's program has an excellent reputation and is successful year after year. I think someone mentioned a while back that girls probably aren't as likely to be sucked in by the status (even if it is a poor D-1 program, some people just want that label) of playing D-1. I would think that the men's program needs to become the successful program of the past before talented players (local or otherwise) will come here. It's kind of like what comes first...the chicken or the egg...can't have a successful program without talent and can't recruit talent without a successful program.
  3. Looking at the MSHSL site, Kimbrough had field goal percentages of 65.23% and 62.2% respectively for her junior and senior years...don't know many coaches who wouldn't take that...good news is...she does have a way to go and is pretty outstanding already...will be exciting to see the development. The women are a treat to watch. Kristi B is definatley a great leader and so talented..the younger girls are lucky to play with her and will hopefully learn a lot. Mahlum is fun to watch and you can just see the frustration build in the opponents. Jahner's hustle is amazing. Last night Maffin was lights out. Langen is a force to be reckoned with and Ledger is so mucch fun to watch and is getting better each game. The whole team has really got it going and barring injuries...I expect great things this year and in years to follow!
  4. Just want to say good luck to the ladies tonight....women's basketball that is...playing in Florida..first team they play is Merrimack.....Warriors....hmmmmm...haven't heard about them...although their logo looks like a Trojan/Knight...maybe that's how they get away with it...I'm sure they're not "hostile and abusive"! Any way...GO FIGHTING SIOUX!!!!
  5. OK...how about the UND Fighting Highway Patrol....and keep the logo? Only kidding...just an example of how ridiculous this is getting. UND Fighting Sioux forever...'nuff said!
  6. I couldn't agree more. i don't know what happened to my post from the evening things were getting out of hand...there seems to be a few remarks missing, but this is not funny at all! The blog and some of the comments here are getting out of hand. I realize that hopefully most of this is verbal sparring, but considering Red Lake, Columbine, Ricorri (sp), etc...it needs to be taken seriously. If this were done on a high school campus or elsewhere, there would be investigations, expulsions, etc. GK seems very passionate about his "cause" and even though he says he has been in the service and is pursuing an education, his arguments are inflammatory, illogical, immature, idiotic, and now terroristic. It is hard to not just lay in to him, but it is useless. He is here just to incite a verbal riot. I have a feeling he is not so much concerned about the use of the name Sioux but more concerned with causing any bit of trouble he can for UND or races other than his own. He does so because he is Lakota and the NC double A-holes have said he can! I would like to keep the name very much, but if this is not going to be resolved any time soon and things keep escalating, I think it needs to be thought about. I will still always think of UND as home of the Fighting Sioux and I will still be sporting my Sioux attire no matter what. I think the Sioux of old that truly deserve this honor would be troubled by the actions and words of a few. Don't worry Yttrium...I do not judge the Indian race on the actions of people like GK...I myself prefer to think that all races have their GKs and all have their Yttriums. I think we all know which is the more honorable one!
  7. What about UND...home of the Mighty Sioux or Proud Sioux? If it is just the matter of the word "fighting" or then we could talk to the Dakota not Lakota band as GK suggested
  8. I have aquired a bunch over time and I intend to wear it to every event I attend...no matter what happens!! It will always be the Fighting Sioux to me!
  9. Here's a thought....do you suppose GK has a new snowsiouxt??
  10. Works for me too...keep the logo and the colors!
  11. what a shame! It was a very interesting article. I wonder though, if I would have ever read it if it weren't for PCM again coming through with some insightful article...it also makes me wonder that if it would have been a reverse situation where a white group was trying to keep anyone out based on skin color (which is totally unacceptable too) if we would have seen it on the national news! She makes excellent points. This Chandler woman should be out of a job! I'm all for keeping with the "Great Melting Pot"
  12. and it's sad that you turn the conversation whenever you feel cornered...I too would be interested to hear your answers to Sioux-cia's questions...why would you get harassed...perhaps because the answers to those questions are not the greatest...even to you...but if your culture truly dictates that you don't share such things...that's your right...I also appreciate the Catholic comment...what do you like...that also reminds me of a question I have for you...unless you are Christian...which I don't think is a Native religion, I thougt missionaries brought that to the new country..and of course you will point out my ignorance...why do you care if Jesus would wear a Sioux jersey? I'm thinkin he would...but you know us Catholics....I better run and go to confession and then do a Rosary. Another thing...maybe the act of chasing the puck is not what this is all about...maybe it's the hard work, dedication, honor, sacrafice, sportsmanship, etc it requires to be an athlete at this level and to be associated with the Fighting Sioux. Maybe it's the success of these programs bringing attention to our state and your people...maybe it would be an opportunity to use this for good....not evil perpetrated by the white guys!
  13. wow...I don't even know where to begin...there are so many threads that I have comments on, but unfortunately...some of this is getting ugly. I say if changing to "Proud Sioux" or "Mighty Sioux" isn't good enough...providing we are still trying to work it out with the Tribes...then get on with it. Go to court and what ever happens, happens. The 15 minutes of fame...and you know who you are..will be over...and what will have changed for the people we are supposedly exploiting? Maybe we should check with the ACLU, NOW, NAACP, NRA, DNR, PETA, NGP, Rainbow Coalition, PBS, UNICEF, NATO, and any other organization that will complain for some reason...we could become the "Neutral Non-Offensive People"...hard to put on a jersey and not very intimidating! I just wish that little old white me...who may be ignorant about Tribal customs and culture...(and which nobody except for one poster tried to use this to educate me on why this would be so difficult for NA's to accept.. the other obviously NA poster has been the most racist poster)...had someone to blame every hardship in my life on...oh yeah...that's right...I'm "blonde and blue eyed" (and mostly German for that matter) what would I know...I have no problems!
  14. sorry for all of the mis-spellings in the previous post...I was typing faster than I was thinking...(that doesn't sound too great )
  15. why does the University of North Dakota have more than twice as many Native American students as any other university in the region? Because there are so many American Indian programs on campus, it is close to many reservations, and UND tries to recruit them because it makes UND "look good," and how about it is a good school, except for the fact that it has this logo. Why, when protests of the Sioux nickname are held, do fewer than 100 protestors march, (a high percentage of them white) on a campus with more than 400 American Indian students? There are also many other races involved in these protests, because it is a human rights issue. Where there not whites against slavery? Men for women's rights? The comparison by Leigh is justified. Many students are just trying to get an education, and the death threats to some supporters isn't very appealing either. Why do 61% of American Indians in North Dakota say they're not offended by UND's use of the Sioux nickname? Did you know Psychology students on campus through research for their discertation found that American Indians as a whole have more psychological distress from seeing the nickname/logos then the majority. This study reveals that American Indians on UND campus are suffering psychological harm from the nickname/logo. Why would an American Indian artist design UND's logo? First, the artist wasn't Lakota/Nakota/Dakota. He is Meti. Yes, there are some Indians that do not see a problem with the logo. You can always find somebody within a group of people to use to further your cause, which UND goes out of there way to find those few. Why would a university that's "hostile and abusive" to American Indians create so many educational opportunities for them? It appears to me that you have left many facts out of your disingenuous Are you talking about the 21 American Indian programs?? Well, none of these are paid for by the University, they were created by American Indians and are funded by grants. Only two of these programs are state funded. Oh, and the majority of them have already made resolutions against the name. I think there are two that haven't, and they were just recently created. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
