It appears that Bemidji's WR, Carey Woods, is starting to get a lot of attention - and deservedly so from what I hear. Reports are that we have offered a full ride and the Bison a partial. As the Lumberjacks continue into the playoffs, he might be getting much more attention!
He is also a very good BB player - he has offers from Moorhead and Bemidji so far but it appears he wants to play FB in college.
No one should take this as a negative question but I know we have some FB lettermen alums on this board but I am curious about their perspective on recruits in attendance at the USD game.
Obviously, the game had a tremendous ending with UND pulling out an outstanding come-from-behind win. Unfortunately, we were not too impressive for much of the game. This bunch of recruits sat together (I assume they sit together) and witnessed: 1) a rather poor performance for much of the game and 2) little "excitement & atmosphere" (until the end) with a nearly empty student section. My question: does the excitement of the win at the end of this game offset those issues or had some of these kids already "rolled their eyes" and decided that UND wouldn't be a great place to play?
I am curious to hear from those who have been through the recruiting process.
This is quite a statement - I am not sure how long you have been following Sioux FB (I think it has been quite a few years) but there have certainly been some good ones. I respect your opinion - I just didn't realize that Hendrickson was that good!
I wouldn't consider it giving up on anyone. I would consider it "competition". If someone on the roster could do a better job (at any positiion), they deserve the opportunity to prove it. That being said - I would hope that if Townsend had the abilities to be our starting QB, our coaching staff would have realized it long before now. He certainly did have great stats playing at the top level of FB in MN.
This really was another great VB season!
Two observations: 1) while the cupboard certainly isn't bare, we sure lose some good seniors. I hope we can land a couple more top recruits in addition to those announced last week. 2) someone has to be "knocking on Hardee's door" this off-season. I sure hope we can keep him. Larger programs can certainly offer a much bigger paycheck than us!
A great season - congrats, ladies!
This really was a big win over a good BB team. Keeping our cool down the stretch when they made their run was important and impressive! It may be a fun season!
Ouch - he appears to be a good one! As happens too often, I would guess proximity to home for mom & dad, girlfriend to see his games may have made a difference!
UND picked up its first 2013 recruit with Hopkins junior, Erin O'Toole, recently committing to the Sioux. She is a 6'3" post player. It would be great to continue to get kids out of that school. They are very good year after year.
I would think that we will only have one other scholarship available next year but with the kids we just signed and O'Toole, we should be in good shape.
I am quite sure we won't be signing anyone during the early signing period. We will somehow have a scholarship or two available for next year. I understand we are looking for a JC power forward or center. Hopefully, we will get some good news in April. We definitely need help down low!
Two new offers:
LB Drake Michaelson, Eden Prairie, 6'1", 205 Has offers from SDSU & Wyoming
DE Ross Dzuris, Plattsmouth, NE 6'3", 230 No other known offers
Ira - great write-up. I didn't know Murph well but fully agree that he was a class act, a true Fighing Sioux, cared about his players as well as all UND alums & fans. I had always hoped that he would come back to UND in some capacity.
He will be missed!
