Starman giving Schmaltz big props. There have been a few North Dakota hockey references so far.

What a game right out of the chute! Can't wait for this one to start!

I'd be curious to hear reports of what people see tonight and what/where the references are after tonight's game...

Based on how in the past you've used the BC/Jerry York argument against UND/Hakstol, I'm assuming you just confused BU with BC? Or maybe you're just drunk already? Day off today?

What a joke. Don Lucia - you're an idiot. I like Walt Kyle's quotes: "A lot of these schools right now, and I'm not naming names, are doing everything in their power to push the scales in their favor," Northern Michigan coach Walt Kyle said. "A lot of these guys should be embarrassed. They want NCAA (tournament) games on home campus sites. Why is that? These are the same guys who started recruiting 15-year olds, then when everyone else did, they started crying about it. When it comes to playing Northern Michigan, Lake Superior, Michigan Tech — instead of two games on their campus, two on mine, they want four games on their campus. "What is the problem? What is your issue? You don't want to recruit those kids, then don't recruit them," Kyle said. "It's a joke. Number one, these kids graduate. They have a higher graduation rate than the younger kids. Number two, what business do we have to restrict the age of who can and cannot play? We all know junior hockey has become a big component in the development of hockey players and kids want to stay in it for different reasons, and they go into college for different reasons. ... (They are) better prepared to go to college for their experiences. I think those kids do nothing but benefit our game." -
Respectfully disagree. There's a 'funny' picture that someone posted a few days ago with the old Brien logo that has a beak added to it...now that is trying to hard! I think geaux_sioux's logo here is very good. It has obvious ties to the past, but is not a complete ripoff and is a very nice looking, original logo. Maybe it could be cleaned up/simplified a bit, but I think this is a great start. It's been said on here multiple times that the logo may make or break the new nickname. I personally can't stand the new nickname, but at least having a cool, original logo like what geaux_sioux has come up with would salvage it some. Maybe not fully, but at least somewhat. I just can't help but think we're going to end up with something VERY blah and generic, further killing this horrible new nickname.
-
Very nice! Not sure how realistic this is, but I really hope this is the new logo. I can't imagine a professional firm coming up with anything even close to this...they'll come up with something very generic and vanilla. This is a great logo with some slight ties to the past. Nice job!

UND FIGHTING HAWKS @ SCSU Huskies - Saturday Gameday

No DirecTV tonight, correct? -
Let me say it out loud to hear how it sounds...... F'Hawk Yeah Yeah!! Yeah F'Hawk F'Hawk!
-
Honest question(s) - this weekend at St. Cloud do the announcers refer to the Sioux as the Fighting Hawks, or do they just keep calling them North Dakota for now? Does UND tell them what to use? Even if UND told them to use North Dakota, could St. Cloud's announcers just go with the Fighting Hawks? I'll make a request to anyone who's going to the game this weekend...if the in-game PA announcer mentions anything regarding Fighting Hawks over the PA system, will someone PLEASE give him a massive donkey punch to the back of the head...really hard?

Wow...something that gfhockey and I agree on! This nickname is embarrassing...

I'll play both sides on this one....Sioux fans would be calling for a suspension if this had happened against a Sioux player, no doubt. I have no problem with this being called a penalty...suspension though? Not sure. However, saying that he didn't try to take the puck away isn't valid. You don't have to. There is checking in hockey, and it's a part of the game to make physical contact with a player to separate him from the puck. 1st man plays the body, 2nd man takes the puck. Caggulia doesn't have to "go for the puck" when making contact. -
Well, you know what they say...if you can't beat 'em, encourage your son to join 'em!

I don't believe you have to play/sing the National Anthem. In fact, the Philadelphia Flyers for example, play God Bless America. I'm not sure if they do this every home game, or just "big games" or how they decide, but I do know that they don't do the Anthem for every game. Why the Flyers Don't Play the National Anthem
-
Interesting. For the life of me, I'll never understand how Todd Richards survived 6+ years as a head coach in the NHL!
-
The DVR has been set! It's been crazy - I was watching the Flyers vs Stars last night and I can't stand the Flyers, however I find myself semi-rooting for them because of Hak.

Me too, Bruins opener vs the Jets tonight!

Was it that price last year? For some reason I thought it was more last year and this rate was a lower rate? I'm not sure how, but mine didn't renew automatically, so on my last bill I wasn't charged for the package. I called them yesterday to ask why it wasn't on and then I just asked them what is the lowest rate they could offer this to me for, and I got it for half price (4 payments @ $17).
-
Yes, it should be cheaper. How much are you paying? Little hint...I called DirecTV yesterday and mine is MUCH cheaper this year!

I have to admit, ESPN has some great SportsCenter commercials, and this one is right up there! This Is SportsCenter: National Anthem
