Let's see Bison Dan.. UND women's hockey which hasn't drawn flies since the program started a little while ago or Bison women's basketball which used to almost fill the BSA not long ago. Bison Dan...the pattern I just illustrated should probably concern you Dan. When Bison women's basketball is only drawing 500 more fans than UND women's hockey I think you should probably be concerned. Like I said, Dan should probably be more concerned with NDSU's problems than UND. By the way , I loved hearing your ad for the the Bison women's game with New Jersey Tech YMCA team last week. I particularly love the part where it said BIG NAMES BIG GAMES. Your marketing department does make me laugh sometimes. It just makes me want to SCREAM YELLOW.

Bison Dan... UND consistently has more fans every year that attend the sports we offer than what NDSU has attending the sports they offer. Not bad considering you have three times the population we have. You better take care of your own problems before you start pointing fingers. I see your women's team drew 700 fans last week. That will bring your attendance up a little. That DI basketball excitement continues to grow. Dan you must really be obsessed with UND. Your are on here all the time. It's sure fun to see that Bison fans just can't can't get UND off their mind.

What happens to the Regional rankings now? Do we still stay ahead of Augie? They do have one more loss than us.
-
If were losing recruits at the last second to the Badgers out of the Big Ten that is a good sign. It shows we are recruiting quality athletes.
-
Is the Wisconsin kid definitely toast or is he just still debating? If he is gone what school is he switching too? I hate that when kids switch right at the end just before signing date. It's makes it very difficult for coaches who are counting on you to put a class together. Earlier in the recruiting process is easier to work around than at the last minute. Maybe the kid will change his mind and stick with his commitment.

So the season ending GPI would back up the statement I made that the the Sioux did actually play a better DIAA team than any DIAA team the Bison played. Thanks for the follow up.
-
The same goes for the Northern Iowa too. Northern Iowa didn't make the playoffs either but would of been a playoff team if some teams hadn't gotten in by being an automatic seed from some conferences. Those schools took Northern Iowa's spot. You mentioned that NDSU and SDSU were highly ranked. I believe NDSU can't play themselves though. If SDSU was the best DIAA team they played does that make NDSU automatically the best team in DIAA . I doubt it. NDSU still didn't play or beat anybody that ended up in the playoffs in DIAA. Northern Iowa would have made the playoffs if they based it totally on who they played in DIAA. Unfortunately for them they got beat by the Sioux. SDSU did lose to a DIII team. Comparing the schedules of NDSU and UND, the Sioux probably played the best DIAA school in Northern Iowa. By the way, Northern Iowa did beat SDSU too. When you say historically certain teams make the playoffs in DIAA doesn't mean anything. It comes down to what a team has done for you now, not in the past. NDSU fans love to live in the past. Strength of teams is based on what a team did this year, not past years. A lot of the teams NDSU played this year were excellent in the past, but the reality is they weren't as good this year as they have been in the past.

Hockey Exposure Good or Bad for UND DI Transition
sultan replied to BobIwabuchiFan's topic in NCAA News
NDSU fans have been saying they have a great rivalry going with the Gophers. The television announcers and players from the Gophers on TV this weekend repeatedly said what a great rivalry that Minnesota has with UND . WE have played the Gophers at various times in other sports besides hockey too. I believe that was the 258th time we have played the Gophers in hockey. Maybe the Bison should play another 250 games with the Gophers and then start talking about their great rivalry with the Gophers. It takes years and years , and games and games to develop a true rivalry. I think they better stick to their SDSU rivalry. That's a pretty intense rivalry , or at least they say it is. -
Hockey Exposure Good or Bad for UND DI Transition
sultan replied to BobIwabuchiFan's topic in NCAA News
How about that for exposure. UND beats the Gophers, UND sweeps the Gophers, UND sweeps the Gophers in Minneapolis, UND sweeps the #1 team in the country, UND sweeps the Big 10 Gophers on Fox Sports North Regional television, and then to top it off UND is the #1 play of the day on ESPN Sports Center. That is priceless exposure. -
I too have been hearing some very positive things about recruiting this year. Some people thought this might be one of the toughest years. With the great recruiting class we are assembling this year it really makes the future look very bright. In another year when Dale Lennon has a lot more money to work with..LOOK OUT.... Dale can out recruit almost anybody when the playing field is level. Go Sioux.

Sioux fans will be a lot more honest and realistic about what is going to happen in DI basketball than Bison fans are. Bison fans want everyone to believe that the excitement in Fargo for DI basketball is bursting at the seams. The reality is that if they are excited they apparently aren't excited enough to buy a ticket and go to the games. The bottom line is that when you play a full fledged DI basketball schedule you better win or the only games people will come to are the marque games . Marque games in Fargo aren't going to happen as often Bison fans think. There can be a lot of poorly attended games between big games. The Bison women must be a setting some attendance records this year though. That is, attendance records for some of the poorest attended games in recent memory. I must admit when I hear the NDSU commercials for basketball home games and they say BIG GAMES BIG NAMES and than the next day I see the attendance is any where from 600 to 1600, I do have to chuckle. Boy have they wasted a lot of advertising money in Fargo this year.

Did anybody get a chance to go to Red River last night to watch Wahlin and the Crookston team play? If you did give us a report. I wasn't able to make it there. Do the Sioux have any kind of chance to get her?
-
The Bemidji womens basketball coach has said that the Sioux were the best team he had played this year. He said the Sioux were better than the Rabbits from SDSU. After watching the Rabbits on TV today I have to admit I agree with him. The quality of play in the game today was not very good. There were lots of air balls, lots of undisciplined play, poor shooting at times, missed free throws at key times, poor decision making at key times, and lots of poor passing. I know towards the end of the game Vogel had only 2 baskets for SDSU. Once again the NCC from top to bottom really has a high standard of play. I have to admit I really thought the quality of play was going to be a lot better. Maybe SDSU just had a bad day, and that is possible.

There is plenty of blame to go around by everyone involved. Roger Thomas was petty about some things when it came to "some" sports. Like I said before, Roger Thomas doesn't work for UND anymore. He hasn't for quite some time. That is old news. I also said I could care less if UND ever plays NDSU again. Fortunately or unfortunately there a lot of people from both sides of the fence that want the games to continue. It is time for a lot of people to grow up and start acting like adults.
-
Bison Dan.. you just illustrated another fine example of petty revenge. Thanks for the example.

They sure talk in circles at NDSU. Last week Taylor said they wouldn't play the Sioux next year in football because the dates don't match. Now he says they won't play the Sioux next year because they can't play us the years following next year and he doesn't want that to happen. And yet he says we might be able to play them in 2008 and 2009. He said the football game down the road could hurt playoff chances for NDSU. NDSU had a lot of anger towards UND when Lennon didn't play NDSU for the very " same" reason . It kind of makes the anger you have built up look a little hypocritical. NDSU was also mad at Roger Thomas. Just to remind you, Roger hasn't been here for quite some time.(years) Your basketball teams can't fit UND into the schedule either. I guess it's to hard to work around Valley City and Mayville games. Let's face it. Taylor should have the guts to admit it. They aren't playing the Sioux because they are being petty. Amy Ruley doesn't want to play the Sioux because they would get hammered. Why would NDSU want to have a sellout for basketball game when they get between 600 and 1600 people for most games. Maybe Taylor apparently doesn't have to worry about the bottom line financially. Maybe NDSU could buy out the Valley City game for maybe a 100 bucks. Frankly, I could care less if we ever schedule the bison again. Although I have to admit I do miss kicking some bison butt.

The McFeeley article has a lot more to do with the fact that the conference NDSU really wanted to get into(The Big Sky) didn't happen and now that they are getting into the Gateway they are just bashing the conference they didn't get into. They did the same thing with DII , the NCC, smaller schools in the area, smaller cities in the area, NAIA, DIII, other schools coaches and administrators . I could go on and on. Fargo has done this for years. That's why most schools and people in the area (unless your connected to NDSU) have always thought NDSU and their fans were arrogant. There is a definite pattern being followed when it comes to making fun of other people and institutions. If they had gotten into the Big Sky they would be making fun of the Gateway now.

I was curious what Ulferts had to say about the Sioux. She usually is quite complimentary. Swyg didn't interview her tonight. It seems like they haven't been doing those interviews with the opposing coaches this year. Has anybody heard why they don't do that this year on the radio broadcasts?
-
Nice win by the Sioux women. The team they beat tonight was the national runner up 2 years ago. I f I'm not mistaken the Sioux women set a record for most road victories in a row tonight. I don't think they have lost a road game for a couple of years. This is definitely the deepest team they have ever had. They can just about use any player on the roster at any time in the game. It's going to be tough to keep the winning streak going thou. They are just way to many talented women's teams out there now days. St. Cloud for starters next Thursday is going to be tough.
-
Believe me, with the teams the Bison put on the floor the last couple years they wouldn't have added to their championship team totals.
-
So in the last ten years the Sioux have had 15 championships and the Bison have had 3. That's what I thought.
-
Bison Dan... as far as I can see, you are the only person denying the statistical facts between the two teams records. Whose in a state of denial? By the way, most fans don't really care about the other sports. Most fans don't go to soccer, baseball, golf etc. They don't go in Fargo either. The point is we were talking about women's basketball anyway. I'm still waiting for the facts to support your silly statements. What is the total number of conference championships, post season conference championships, and national championships have the Bison had compared to the Sioux in the last ten years. I am very anxious to hear the results.
-
To imply that the Bison women have been better than the the Sioux women in the last ten years you have totally lost all credibility. Your really starting to look "SILLY" now Bison Dan. You might want to go back and double check the performance levels of the two teams the last ten years . Then you might want to put your tail back between your legs and go away. Your kind of making a fool of your self now. The only difference between the two teams is conference titles, post season conference titles, national titles, conference records, overall records and lost of other stats if you need them. Please share with us the stats on how the two teams compare in some of those catergories? For starters, let us know how many of those titles the Bison have compared to the Sioux? We will all be waiting for your response. Thanks for stopping by.

Bison Dan ... once again you shouldn't be pointing fingers. The Sioux women's team has been a lot better than the Bison for over a decade. Were doing just fine. You don't have to worry about us. If I'm not mistaken I think our record last year was 34-1. What was your record. Almost every player on our team was recruited by the Bison and chose to come to UND. Most of the players on the Bison team wouldn't even have made the Sioux team. Once again, don't worry about us..were doing just fine. The last decade the Bison would love to have underachieved like the Sioux supposedly have.
-
Don't forget they only had 600 for their last women's game too. If you don't have a good team, if you don't have an exciting team to watch, or if your playing a team that has no appeal, it doesn't matter if you are DI, DII, or NAIA, people don't come. The Bison are finding that out this year. The problem isn't necessarily what division you play in. You would think the Bison would sell out for all their men's games with the excitement they say they have for men's basketball right now. Weren't finding out that isn't true. Even though hockey probably takes fans and money away from an increased following in basketball, we still have a great basketball tradition. Overall our men's and womens basketball teams as a whole have a stronger history than NDSU. Their tradition is bascially just with the womens team. Our men's team has a long and storied tradition. The only aspect that could hurt the potential of basketball is the size of Grand Forks and the strong following of hockey. Fargo probably has a better chance to grow their basketball than we do. Grand Forks can support both programs thou.
