  1. Is that a practical way to buy a house? Is it practical for most people or companies to buy a business with cash? Do you often pay for a whole life insurance policy with cash? How about a highway system? Or employee retirement programs?
  2. According to a book on his life, he attended a summer hockey camp at UND in 1959. He considered playing college hockey, the book says he was offered a scholarship but doesn't identify the school, but decided to play for a semi-professional hockey team. After one season he realized that he wasn't going to make it to the NHL so he moved on to other career opportunities.
  3. The state would have to stop all spending for multiple years to make your idea work. How do you build roads? How do you build a $120 million medical school building? Wait until you have the money in the bank? As I said, all large organizations do it that way because your idea isn't practical.
  4. Every governmental body works on budgets based on estimated revenues and expenses. Most businesses, especially larger businesses, make plans based on estimated budgets. Then as you move through the budget period you make adjustments based on how close you came to actual revenues and expenses. It would be impossible for a government to wait until money comes in before making spending decisions. This is just an extreme case because of the large swings caused by oil over the past 6 or 8 years. And don't forget, North Dakota has to work on budgets almost 2 1/2 years out because they only meet every other year. Most governmental bodies meet every year or more frequently.
  5. So he has a better education than anyone with an NDSU diploma. Thanks for letting us know.
  6. He has dealt with the "top" of the media profession in Washington, DC, local yokel media types in Fargo, ND will not be much of a challenge for him.
  7. I know at least a few of the Red River hockey kids played on the Blues last year, but I don't know about the Royals.
  8. At least some of them do. I don't know how many because I didn't pay much attention to the legion teams this past summer.
  9. A lot of them do in Grand Forks. Quite a few of the players on this year's Red River hockey team played baseball together through the years, won state Babe Ruth tournaments and went on to regional tournaments. I believe that at least some of them also play for the Red River baseball team.
  10. There is a pretty good chance that they will have to play an afternoon game in either the regional or Frozen Four, so it might be good to get used to it. Plus it gives the team extra rest between games this weekend whether they win or lose. So it's best to get out of that routine and get ready for succeeding under different conditions. Maybe playing the afternoon game in the NCHC helped them get ready to play under different conditions in the regional last year.
  11. It has nothing to do with the fans. It is what the coaches believe is best for the team to win this tournament and prepare for the national tournament.
  12. Looks like most tickets are priced from $7.50-$12.50. Would probably need to come close to a sellout to make it on ticket revenue alone, and that doesn't consider other expenses.
  13. They were trying to brag about how good a coach Richards is without pointing out that his team actually underperformed the entire year.
  14. Another stupid comment that has nothing to do with what was being discussed.
  15. NDSU is picked to finish finish 2nd in the Summit preseason polls. They finish 5th. They come back and finish 2nd in the conference tournament, so Richman is a great coach. UND is picked to finish 8th to 10th in Big Sky preseason polls. They finish 5th. They lose in the semifinals of the conference tournament to the conference champs. Jones is the worst coach on the planet. That's the logic for today.
  16. I believe what I said was that part of the problem, the extension of the problem, was thanks in large part to Al Carlson and his pals. And that Carlson is an NDSU supporter. You are the one that then came to the conclusion that it was NDSU's fault. You have a real problem with logic, which you exhibit on a regular basis with your posts. Maybe NDSU needs to teach logic classes. But thanks again for coming over to entertain us with your inane comments.
  17. Yet they seem to make final decisions all of the time.
  18. I wasn't addressing any issue other than the fact that worrying about playing home games on off days probably was a waste of time. They probably wouldn't happen for UND home games. However, I disagree with you on some of these issues. UND has a long history of playing hockey against Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Michigan State. Much longer than the history of playing Omaha and Miami. Wins against Michigan in the 40's were what propelled UND into the top echelon of college hockey. Those Big 10 schools were all part of the WCHA for a long time, and were regular opponents as well as rivals. I enjoy the games against Omaha, Miami, and Western Michigan, but would much rather play regular games against those Big 10 schools. Penn State has made a commitment to hockey and appears to be improving quickly. The schools that have had strong programs in the past will most likely come back in the future. I would still want to continue playing Denver and CC because of the history, the same history as playing the former WCHA teams in the Big 10. Just because the NCHC is a hockey only conference doesn't mean that it is the best place for UND. A hockey only conference has a very limited sphere of influence, the Big 10 has much greater influence in the world of college sports. If the NCAA is going to make major changes to the sport, having the Big 10 on your side would be much more useful than having the NCHC. Several of the Big 10 schools have had strong programs over many years in spite of the fact that they were the 3rd or 4th sport in their school. These schools have the financial resources to support all of their athletic programs, so money isn't going to be a problem for them as long as they want to be competitive. That being said, it would totally depend on the conditions and terms offered to UND if they were offered an entry into the Big 10 hockey conference. You can't make a final decision either way on a topic like this unless you know the details.
  19. It appears that almost every Big 10 game that was played on Thursday or Sunday was to avoid a conflict with a home football game, or a few for a home basketball game. UND isn't very likely to do that, so it is very unlikely that any UND home games would be affected. UND would be much more likely to play an away game on a different day.
  20. I am well aware of the money spent on the nickname. I have been in contact with the school multiple times throughout the process. I made my opinions known to different people in the administration. And I'm well aware that a lot of the problems were caused by Fargo representative Al Carlson and his minions forcing UND to keep the nickname for much longer than they should have, and then forcing the ridiculous "cooling off period". Yes, I contacted Legislators on the subject during the process. The nickname should have been changed after the settlement date from the Settlement Agreement. Wait, isn't Mr. Carlson an NDSU supporter just like yourself? Wow, what a surprise. And what does the UND nickname have to do with NDSU failing to provide any kind of budget plan? Of course, another attempt to deflect the conversation. Do they offer a course in deflecting difficult conversations for all NDSU students or only for sports fans?
  21. We all know that the NCAA never changes the rules.
  22. Didn't UND finish 2nd just 2 years ago? In only their second year in the league?
  23. Me---North Dakota resident, NDSU----North Dakota tax payer supported school. I care about the finances of NDSU like I care about the finances of the Secretary of State's office and every other part of North Dakota state government. Is that too complicated for you to comprehend? Does anything get through for you other than football?
  24. Losses against good teams can even help. RPI is a big part of Pairwise. If you look at college basketball you will see that the RPI of your opponents can help or hurt your RPI no matter what the results are of your games. Wins and losses are very important, but who you play, their RPI, and their opponents RPI are all important factors, also.
  25. One more time for the slow learners. NDSU was supposed to submit some kind of plan to the state to approach the budget reductions. The only plan that NDSU submitted said that they were going to reduce operating expenses. In case you don't get it, the Governor already told them they had to do that, so they didn't submit any kind of actual plan to accomplish that goal. Also, in case you didn't understand, the FCOA is part of the Athletic Department budget. That budget is part of the state budget being reduced. So UND submitted an initial plan to the state to cover a revised budget. NDSU did not submit a plan. See the difference? Add to that NDSU's track record in getting private donations to complete projects, or lack of same, and you will see why some of us don't have a lot of faith in NDSU. But you just go ahead and keep believing anything they tell you.
