  1. Another NDSU troll trying to take a shot at someone with a nonsense post. Guess you can't just argue your case based on the merits. And being a little brother would be a first for me since I've been the oldest brother my whole life.
  2. But you seem to have a problem with another guess that NDSU trying to grab another $1.5 million from student fees might also be used to cover FCOA. That guess has at least as much validity since NDSU has announced that they are interested in increasing fees, while no one has announced that NDSU is increasing football ticket prices.
  3. More guessing on your part or has anyone from the NDSU Athletic Department actually said they were going to do that? Guessing doesn't count. If they did I could say that UND might add $4 to each hockey ticket. $4 X 9,000 X 20 = $720,000. Wow, I just paid for FCOA.
  4. So you are advocating that NDSU should take the student fees "because they can". That seems to be a great way to build trust with the student body. How about giving an honest reason for needing them? I don't care if it's $1 or $1,000, the school should provide a legitimate use for the money, not just some vague possibilities. Show a need for the money instead of claiming that they will still be a great deal even after the increase. I'm not quite sure how you maintain the right to post on this board with your insults.
  5. Discussion is going on about something actually happening at NDSU (NDSU Athletics asking for money from students 2 years after saying that they wouldn't need more money for 5 years). NDSU apologist enters the discussion and tries to suggest that UND will do something similar without any evidence of it happening from any source. That is a deflection. You can decide whatever you want about the NDSU situation, but trying to shift the discussion to UND and get it away from NDSU is pure deflection.
  6. Maybe you shouldn't worry your pretty little head about UND asking for a student hike until it is actually suggested by someone at UND. Then maybe you can ask some questions. So far you are the only person that has suggested that UND might do that. Until then, keep trying to change the subject to deflect attention away from NDSU.
  7. Feathers that look like they belong on a bird would not be a problem. Feathers that look like a Native American headdress, or resemble any kind of Native American symbol, will more than likely be a problem with the NCAA.
  8. Money is only part of the problem for a GFK-EGF bridge. The other problem is getting people to agree on where to put it. People don't want the traffic going by their house. 32nd and 47th are mainly residential and 62nd is some residential, none of those folks want that traffic by their houses. Merrifield Road is too far south unless they put the bypass in place (62nd probably is too). All of them are south of town for EGF, so the city doesn't like them because they want the traffic running through town. They don't want people just hopping across the river and not going by EGF businesses where they might stop. No location has gotten enough support so far. Merrifield probably has the best chance because it will eliminate truck traffic through town, but the bypass will probably need to be part of the package.
  9. Grand ForKs. It is what the FAA uses to identify the Grand Forks airport. Many people also use it as a shortcut to identify Grand Forks. Hector is FAR. McCarran in Las Vegas is LAS. Minneapolis-St Paul is MSP.
  10. DI, you might want to check your own reading comprehension since that fact was mentioned several posts (and a day) before you piped in. As UNDBIZ said, it might not make it against the NDSU policy but that doesn't make it right. But anything that the NDSU president does is fine in your eyes.
  11. The first step would be to teach him the definition of courtesy.
  12. They were in Chicago before moving to St. Louis. St. Louis has now stolen, and lost, 2 NFL franchises over the years.
  13. They will always use green and white, just as they have always used green and white. They used green and white when the nickname was Fighting Sioux. Hawks was picked during the last half of last semester. Then most people went home for the holidays. This semester started this week. It will take time to integrate a new nickname, it doesn't happen overnight. Some sports are probably putting more of an effort into making the change than others. They aren't going to drop everything they normally do to insert Fighting Hawks into everything. It will be a work in progress throughout this year and into next year, especially since a new logo won't be fully available until next year.
  14. You may not have noticed, but they have used Green and White, which happen to be the school colors, in cheers for as long as they have been the school colors. They aren't going to stop just because of a new nickname.
  15. It's a reference to a saying that Tim Hennesey (TH) uses on radio broadcasts when describing a fake or dangle during play. He will say something like "He gave the defenseman a little bit of the old 'How's she going' and went right by him". It is sometimes accompanied by a chuckle or laugh. It usually means the player made the defenseman look silly or foolish.

  17. If he doesn't play in a single game it would be considered a redshirt year. You can't apply for a medical hardship until after the redshirt year is used up.
  18. Appeal what? The Spirit Lake approval was almost 2 years after the original deadline to get local tribe approval, so the NCAA would not have had to follow it. It would have been meaningless without the Settlement Agreement. And the Spirit Lake approval was almost 1 1/2 years after the Settlement Agreement that both the State of North Dakota, on behalf of UND, and the NCAA signed. That agreement required approval by 2 tribes and Spirit Lake was 1/2 of that.
  19. A little review of the lawsuit issue. As has been discussed, the NCAA is a private, membership organization. They can make any rules that they want as long as they don't break existing laws. Banning Native American nicknames did not break any existing laws. The NCAA ban on nicknames came in August 2005. They made a quick change within a couple of weeks to allow schools to keep their nicknames if they got current approval from a single local tribe. That appeal had to be approved by the middle of 2007. All schools with Native American nicknames that didn't have local tribe approval either needed to change their name or go on the ban list by that time. None of the local tribes gave UND approval at the time. Spirit Lake had given UND approval in 2000, but would not recognize their own policy. Tribal leadership just had to send a letter to the NCAA stating that UND still had approval from the tribe, but refused to send a letter. UND would have been put on the ban list because of that. The other option for the school was to drop the nickname. Instead, UND sued over the policy. The biggest issue that UND could find to sue over was the fact that the NCAA Executive Committee made the Native American policy and the NCAA bylaws said that a policy like that needed to be passed by the membership. After UND sued, the NCAA membership changed their policy to allow the Executive Committee to make policies like the Native American nickname ban. And the Committee renewed that ban after the membership gave them the power. So even if UND won the lawsuit because the NCAA didn't follow policy, the NCAA had covered their tracks legally to eliminate the nickname. At best a win would have gained UND a few months of using the nickname. The Settlement Agreement boiled down to a simple trade. UND had to get 2 tribes to approve the name, and in return they got an extra 3 1/2 years to get that approval. Spirit Lake didn't give their local tribe approval until April 2009, 1 1/2 years after the Settlement Agreement and almost 2 years after the original deadline to get approval. That approval would not have counted without the lawsuit. As we all know, Standing Rock never gave approval. The Standing Rock Tribal Council had issued requests to eliminate the nickname starting in 1992, so most knowledgeable people knew from the start that getting approval from both tribes was going to be close to impossible. Having to get approval from both tribes was a difficult task, but it was probably the only thing that the NCAA would accept to allow the extra time. Otherwise they could very well have just allowed the case to go to court because they already had all of their bases covered. UND was in a lose-lose position, the Settlement Agreement was the only Hail Mary pass attempt that was available at the time. Wayne Stenehjem didn't have many cards left to play at that point. There are probably a lot of good reasons not to vote for Stenehjem, but the nickname issue isn't even on the list.
  20. There have been other reports that Ralph saw the name change coming. He spent time studying the issue, including looking at the relationship between Florida State and the Seminole tribes. That was reported years ago, including Ralph telling UND that they should work on their relationship with the tribes. Kupchella started as president in 1999, so the conversation discussed in that story must have happened in 1999. 5 years from then would have been 2004, so Ralph missed predicting the NCAA mandate by 1 year.
  21. Because UND owns the land, the lease on the land is for a limited time, and there is supposed to be a contract to turn the building over to UND after a specific time (I believe it was 30 years from the time it opened). And the donation was made for the benefit of the University of North Dakota.
  22. Almost 3 times as many people in their metro area? More than 600,000 people in the Boise metro versus about 225,000 in the Fargo metro.
  23. UND schedules games like this to help build college hockey. It's the same reason they started playing Bemidji, played teams like Mankato State in the early years, and even played American International in the old days. Michigan did it for UND in the late 1940s. That's how new programs get a chance to become established.
  24. Classic 8 year old attempt at an insult. About par for many of your posts. What's next, something about cooties?
