  1. By doing this I think they are also going to dull the upward effects of playing very good teams, but of course that may also be a hidden intent. One case that I can see happening is a team coming to Mariucci and getting a split. Despite this good effort, that teams RPI may likely drop for that weekend. This is due to the fact that now Minnesota's Opponents Records (currently 24th) are now more important to your team than Minnesota's record (currently 1st). I don't know if you archived last years RPI charts, but I think they would be very interesting/useful to study in comparison to this years charts. Thanks again for all the great effort you put into this site.
  2. I think the 3rd place game and the relegation pool are only a day or two before the final. But I think Canada will at least make the quarters.
  3. I really enjoy PWR and RPI, but I really hate what the NCAA has done with RPI. It is my belief that the PWR (mainly due to the changes in RPI, which is now even less of a reflection of a teams quality) will be a lot less volitile this year.
  4. 1. CC should present a good opportunity for UND to get going the right direction. They are not deep, they will probably play an open clean game, and their goalie (from the two games I've seen) isn't going to play like Lawson did last weekend. 2. Save your crying for when UND gets an iffy call, not UW. Reviewing isn't the answer, Hunt has to either call it or not call it. Pass interference (correctly) isn't reviewable, neither was this play.
  5. Don't we usually have this discussion in January? Let me be the first. Fire Hakstol. I'm sick of him.
  6. That video server doesn't realize that a line similar to the PS3 lines is waiting at it's gate.
  7. Nice see DTP find a message board where he is welcome to post. Did anyone call for Hakstol's job yet?
  8. He should. Everything was great until Blais came along and showed that WCHA powers should be winning NCAA titles as well. He didn't keep up with recruiting trends and ended up being moved into the administration.
  9. You guys know you enjoyed watching Marsha and Jan makeout all weekend.
  10. Isn't that kind of how SCSU tied it up last night? Weak call, PP, tie. It was a good weekend. Hopefully the Gophs kick UW while they are down next weekend right?
  11. Those tables are fantastic and should be kept for ever. After their beer pong days, they will be a perfect surface for kids playing. My son checked it out and thought you needed our..... Of course you'd want different colors.
  12. The "replay" rule should be simplified to being only called on to determine whether a puck crosses the line. Any crease violations, goalie interference, kicking the puck and and any other suspect moves should either be called on the ice or not called. The 14 minute Adams fiasco may have occured anyway because he is a moron, but the 8 minute review of a Gopher goal vs. CC would have not occured. Adam is a joke. Sheperd is worse. Mason is the worst. Who does that leave?

    NHL Fight

From another great movie... ....the Code is more what you'd call guidelines, than actual rules...
  14. Your still mad my guys didn't show up in St. Paul last year?
  15. I had placed all the blame on Blais for that season.
  16. The idea that a coach can get teams to peak every year at the end is laughable. Given enough time at the helm great coaches will have their share of "great runs" and their share of "flameouts." Lucia has had both types at CC and at the U. Berenson, Parker and York have had both as well. If Eaves and Hakstol remain at their jobs long enough I'm sure fans of both schools will taste the agony of a end of year collapse (maybe not to SCSU/HC levels) but I'm sure you get the point.

    NHL Fight

I hate to put more on the referees judgement, but when I watch NHL (and the USHL game I saw) there seems to be two types of fights. There is the scripted type where the guys discuss their intentions before a face off and then go at it when the puck drops. Then there is the Vanelli/McMahon fight where two guys were battling during play and things escalated after the whistle blew. I don't think any hockey is better for allowing players who participate in the first type of event to stay in the game (or maybe even the next game.) I'd go with five for fighting if it is two guys who end up fighting after a hack. I'd go with five and a DQ for the scripted crap. Anyone who takes on Boogard is foolish.
  18. I saw a SF Stampede game last weekend. Malone looks to be pretty big and strong with hard shot. He embraced his role as a fighter taking on some kid from Des Moine in a very choriographed bout to give the locals something to cheer about. If he works on it he could sport the Commodore red afro.
  19. Hard to argue with that. Taffe had to learn at some point guys were going to hit him back. If he'd have learned it in college, he certainly could have saved himself a lot of pain.
  20. Seems like Hakstol rightfully must have been upset about a player deliberately injuring Toews right or am I missing something? Seems reasonable. Obligatory Gopher talk: Taffe was a brilliant college scorer who would do some stupid stuff before and after the whistle. I don't honestly think there were a whole lot of college kids challenging him because he was a lot bigger than most. Whether he deserved his broken jaw and I believe dozens of stiches for his chippy play I guess is for you all to decide. I don't think Taffe put anyone out of action with his crap though, of course that may have been a function of luck. Westrum seemed virtually identical to the game Blake played. He'd score, hack, get hacked, fight, whine at the refs and if he'd have played for the Sioux you all would have loved him. As for him backing down, I don't believe it. I'd always be hoping he'd let some stuff go because the Gophers couldn't afford to have him missing ice time in those days.
  21. We solved this problem last season. We simply MUST have the Gophers win the McNaughton and earn the Friday evening tilt.
  22. So he basically had his choice to either go to UND and try to unseat Parise and Brandt vs. going to the "U" and trying to beat out Briggs? It sure seems like if icetime were this kids primary concern he didn't make his college decision based on it. I'm guessing if now Phil leads UND to the NCAA title Mario will be sorry down the road.
  23. Well this weekend should give us a first indication of what is really important. Who's better UND or the Gophs? I'm thinking from watching the Gophs vs. Maine and Waynes World that the Sioux are farther along at this point and will handle Maine accordingly.
  24. Don't hold your breath, I've heard he's answering a lot of fan mail these days as well. I was refering to how the Gophs have done since the Sioux got really good in '97 and started kicking everyones --- again. Like every year, the Final Five will be a blast again. Hopefully we get the Gophs/Sioux in the final that deep down we all really want.
