Was there as much loathing of the Gophers back then? Were we as arrogant then as now? The first taunt I heard was the old 5>3 on the 1st incarnation of USCHO. Or maybe it was a hockey list.

1. Lack of consistant offense. 2. Horrific penalty killing.

The Gophers have given up six PPGs over the last four games, a couple were 5x3s despite our paying off the refs. They need to stay the heck out of the box because they are VERY tough five on five.

I don't get it either and it goes for Mariucci as well. People look at Madison when either the Gophers or Sioux are playing and wonder why we can't be like that. It's silly. Take a look at UW when they are playing MTU and it's not really much different then Mariucci vs. MTU. The atmosphere is always going to match how the home team is playing. If the Sioux were coming back from down three vs. the Gophers in the 3rd, miraculously the atmosphere in the Ralph would be the best ever.

I see tDon got to your cheerios again this morning. You may be right though, given the Gophers poor special teams play and general inability to skate I can see why they would against tighter officiating.

Parking is a mess to put it mildly right now. If you are cutting it close don't go near the rink. Find a lot, dress warm and hoof it.

It was O'Brien, the extra elbow was inexcusable. The Gophers are going to try to intimidate the Sioux and their goalie. They go extremely hard to the net this year and I don't think next weekend is going to be any different. I wouldn't be surprised to see a straight up fight this weekend on Saturday night.

My opinion Anderson blew the calls on the fracas. 1. DQ to O'Brien for the hit on Fisher. 2. Remove the DQ from Gordon, he didn't fight. 3. Double minor to Gordon for getting pounded. DU still comes out with a power play, but not the three minute remainder of a major. This is really just one minor incident in the overall picture though. The stickwork (it goes both ways) that goes uncalled in every Gopher game is just stupid. I'm sure it's happens to Toews/Oshie as well, but every time Wheeler or Okposo carries into the zone the backchecker puts the stick in their armpit with no calls. These guys don't go down so they don't get the call. Next year they won't have to deal with that. I still think this is a problem that can only be fixed by the coaches. Unless they as a group put pressure on McLeod nothing will change. The league is currently under the impression that nothing is wrong due to it's dominance in NCAA play. Eventually either Major Juniors or Eastern hockey will be able to exploit this in recruiting.

It doesn't stop at Poppa Sheperd. The refs don't get any support from the league officials or the coaches to call things tightly. Basically they get more grief when they call a lot of penalties than when they don't and this is what we are left with. Change won't happen until WCHA coaches come to a consensus that the WCHA game needs to be remodeled after the NHL game.

I don't think we should get third parties involved. Unless your planning on wearing that purple stuff to the game? I've seen the HC stuff at Mariucci now for the MSU, UW and SCSU games. I guess a little more won't hurt.

The Sioux scored plenty that game if I recall correctly. This weekend is going to rule.

My guys have been playing like idiots all weekend. Too many slashes. O'Brien has been playing better but that was stupid. He cost us Goligoski for 12 minutes and Gordon for a game and a half. He gets pushed towards the goalie and the striped idiot wouldn't have called anything had he chosen not to finish his check.

Those MTU games were a killer for BSU's at large NCAA bid possibilities. BSU needs to sweep the Sioux or plan on winning their conference tourney dogfight to make the tourney.

It looks like if the player leaves the program acedemically eligible there are no consequences for the team. When guys like Hunter Bishop leave mid-semester (unless he finished his classes) I think that hurts your score, but all the guys who finish finals and leave in the summer don't hurt the score too badly. Truthfully I think they are trying to get football programs to start educating their players, and they will never get around to enforcing it upon hockey teams.

Wheeler's not signing suprised me a lot. I have to believe he was not offered. I believe he is now subjected to the new CBA bonus limitations, but he may get a better chunk via a grandfather clause. No one is going to get rich playing hockey anymore unless they earn it at the NHL level. Doesn't matter who you are or where you were drafted if you can't stick with the big club.
