Really weird story out of Waconia, Minnesota that appears to involve a Northern Arizona football player. http://www.kare11.com/story/news/crime/2014/10/16/police-star-hs-basketball-player-attacked/17349209/

I didn't say Montana State and Portland State are not winnable games. UND could certainly beat Montana State and Portland State next year, but they could also lose them. They are not certain wins, as Daryl was suggesting in his post. By the way, I'm also hoping for playoffs next year despite the really hard schedule.
-
You need to add Montana State to your list. I don't know what they're returning, but they're good every year. And UND barely beat PSU at home this year. Yes, we expect UND to be better next year, but you can't rule out a loss @PSU. The bottom line is that even though EWU is off, it's still a very tough schedule and UND will have to improve quite a bit to make the playoffs next year.

Agree to disagree. I think the only reason that underage drinking is a such a big "problem" is because we define underage drinking as anyone under 21, which is preposterous. Prioritizing enforcement of this law just drives drinking further underground, which arguably leads to more binge drinking. Rather than trying to bust 18-20 year old students, the President would do the community a bigger favor by prioritizing easy and cheap sober ride options. Moreover, I never bought into the hype about Grand Forks having a reputation for underage and binge drinking. The difference is most likely marginal when you're comparing it to the other non-commuter universities in the upper midwest. Kelley could appease the teetotaler stakeholders in much more meaningfully ways than by busting 18-20 year old students at athletic events.
-
Well, I don't think I'd do too well in college these days then. You will never eradicate college kids 18-20 from drinking. You'll just give them criminal records without accomplishing anything. It's too bad Kelley is apparently making underage drinking a priority.
-
Students apparently aren't very creative these days. None of the venues sold alcohol at all when I was there. It didn't stop anyone from drinking if that was their thing.

All I can say is Mission Accomplished by Bison Dan. He throws out a bomb in the UND versus Montana thread and, unsurprisingly, some of you guys fell for it. Now we have a side-discussion going on about who is at fault for the downfall of UND football. <sigh>

I think everyone agrees that it would be nice to have more balance (passing) in the offensive game plan. The only disagreement seems to be whether UND has the personnel to do it, or whether UND should pass more even if it doesn't have the personnel. I tend to think the coaches would implement a more balanced offense if they felt they had the players to execute it. I think the inept offense is more a reflection of the players the coaches have than their abilities to install an offense and call plays. I think Saturday is likely going to be a rough day. Everyone talks about how UND's defense has improved. And it has. But the only teams it has been able to limit (Robert Morris and Stony Brook) have really bad offenses. This defense, while improved, will still give up plenty of points to a really good offense like Montana State. And UND's offense isn't nearly good enough to keep up. It hopefully won't be as bad as the last two years, but I think Montana State will win going away. One of these years, I'd like to make it out to Bozeman to watch the game in person.

I can't say I'm surprised. Committees created by politicians and educators only care how the committee looks, rather than what it might accomplish. This is just typical higher ed mush.

If the nickname ends up being anything other than a NOUN, I will be mad. And if it's a WEATHER PHENOMENON, I will have hard time following the teams. And if it a WEATHER PHENOMENON first suggested by a prominent anti-Sioux activist, that will be the end for me.

I'd rather walk than drive an Edsel. And we're much more likely to get an Edsel than a Ferrari or a Jaguar.

I know. There are easily 3-4 posters that should have been eliminated long ago. I'm just saying that, given the lax standards on this forum, you can help by not inviting them into threads that don't relate to NDSU. If the thread is specifically about NDSU, then it's a given that it will be a trainwreck. There's nothing that can be done about those, but we at least can try to keep the non-NDSU threads clean.
-
If UND fans could refrain from mentioning NDSU in threads that do not specifically address NDSU, I suspect it would make it easier for the mods to identify trolls and take action. The problem often arises in threads where a UND fan (I won't name names) compares something to NDSU, and that gives license for NDSU fans to jump in and hi-jack the thread. And NDSU fans are more than happy to do it. If NDSU is not mentioned in the thread and an NDSU troll jumps in and starts smacking, then it would be easier and more justifiable for the mods to take action against that poster. I usually don't mind some of the trolls because I don't take them seriously, but sometimes I do think this board is too lax. I'd like to see the mods get a little bit stricter while still preserving the character of this forum. I think UND fans can help that process by not obsessively mentioning NDSU all the time.

Senser's is the only sure thing. It's a good atmosphere and there might be a few other Sioux fans there as well. But If you really want to stay downtown, you could try the Pourhouse. It's essentially a sports bar until about 9:30 when it turns into a nightclub. I've watched a UND hockey game there once. I called ahead and made sure they had channel the game was on and that they'd be willing to give me a TV. They won't give you one of their big screens, but they'll probably give you a TV behind the bar. I'd recommend getting there early and tipping well.

Stony Brook - 20 UND - 13

Wolves is unoriginal, uninspiring, and infinitely better than whatever nickname this committee ends up actually choosing. Seriously, I'm probably biased because I live in the Twin Cities, but it's too close to Minnesota's NBA team for my liking. i could live with being the same as NC State and Nevada, but the Timberwolves connection is too close for me.

27-6 Missouri State. As always....
-
You have it exactly backwards. UND wanted to keep its national television contract with FCS. UND fell on the sword for the good of the conference. I highly doubt UND would have objected to Notre Dame's national TV deal when UND wanted to keep its own national TV deal. It was more like every school except UND objected to Notre Dame's TV deal. The only difference is that Notre Dame wouldn't give up its own national TV deal and UND did.
-
I don't see this one being close. If UND gets a couple of opportune turnovers and capitalizes when they get opportunities, maybe they can stay in this one. But realistically, I see Missouri State by three scores. As always, I hope I'm wrong.

I haven't lived in GF for a while, but it will be sad to know that Pat Sweeney will not be at WDAZ. He was a fixture of my youth. I remember watching his sportscasts (and his play-by-play for Sioux hockey) since as long as I can remember. Sioux hockey games have not been the same since he was replaced, and now WDAZ will not be the same without him. It's just a reminder that nothing ever stays the same I guess.
-
I'm sure it's some technical issue on my end. Whatever. That's why I don't pay money for webcasting I'm not good with computers and there is always some kind of issue. Guess I'll go outside and enjoy the nice weather.

anyone else having trouble with the web feed? I'm logged in, but it won't give me a link to the game.

I don't think you guys get the bit.
