So is NDSU supposed to play UND whenver it is right for UND? I remember Gene Taylor sending RT a perfectly fine 4 year contract that would have given UND two home games. Now NDSU has other contracts to fill, a different idea of just who they want to play(no D2s), and other schools wanting to play us as well.
-
Its also heads and shoulders above Miller Park and other retractable roof stadiums with the exception of Safeco(that one actually looks decent).
-
NDSU's isn't different but a new arena means more money and of course better facilities, both of which will make for a happier coach. NDSU can't stop every school from taking their coaches but a new arena and more money would take away some of possibilities(It would make some potential jobs seem like a lateral move).
-
I think it will do the opposite of what you say, NDSU will want to make it harder for the next coach to leave and also will want to draw in more revenue. A new arena would be key in getting that done and Miles wasn't going to be around forever(probably two more years max) so I doubt it makes the arena any more risky of an investment.

SUU is decent, they have a lot of players coming back next year. But with the schedule they are playing they'll struggle to win more then 3 games, it's just brutal. Every FCS team they play finished in the top 25 last year and of course you guys are tough as well. I agree it is a winnable game for UND but SUU can be tough at times as well, it's definately an interesting match-up.

Looks like you guys are playing SUU on September 8th..... http://www.suu.edu/athletics/football/skedrelease07.html

I am not in touch with this issue? I graduated from South in 2004 and have lived in Fargo my entire life, I would say I am pretty well in touch. I don't know what the world's largest squirt tourney has to do with Fargo being a hockey town, Fargo has a ton of hotels and restraunts and is thus a good home for a big tourney. As Bisonmav said Fargo hosted a big softball tourney and I would hardly call Fargo a softball town. Fargo has also hosted the American Leagion World Series a few times and will again in a few years but I don't run around calling Fargo a baseball town. As for South it is kind of a bandwagon school, in my sophmore and junior years basketball was the sport and drew a lot of support. My senior year, South had a good hockey team and that seemed to be the sport to follow. Football has always gotten a lot of support and never really has the bandwagon problem and that is why I say it is the sport at south.
-
I remember back in 2002 Fargo South played North in the title game and North also played in a state title game not so long ago(05?). State A should rotate, basketball is plenty popular out east just keep it away from GF.
-
Fargo a hockey town? Calling Fargo a hockey town is a disgrace to hockey towns everywhere, the sport has some support I won't deny that but Fargo has a long ways to go before it would be considered a hockey town. Heck, only one high school is a hockey school(Moorhead). South is a football school and neither North or West Fargo are hockey schools and the private schools are all pro basketball. Considering you raised your kids it is no suprise they like hockey but I am sure a lot of kids would say different, it is really hard to define Fargo as being pro any sport. Football is pretty much the only sport that has a case with South and West Fargo on the high school level and NDSU on the college level.

Fargo isn't a hockey town but it is also not a basketball town, it is probably a football town more then anything. The only hockey towns in ND are Grafton and GF. I also agree that GF shouldn't host EDC or state basketball, there just isn't enough support up there to host it and the location is poor. State should just rotate with Fargo and Bismarck and EDC should be played in the Fargo Civic.

You know what, Taylor was never going to say this on Eddie's show but the reason NDSU isn't going to play UND until 2009 is that UND wouldn't schedule NDSU in either football or basketball when we went DI. Thats the reason, fear has nothing to do with it. I suppose Taylor didn't say that because Eddie would have ripped into him and the last time he said UND made their own bed.... it didn't play very well in the press. Gene can't hold that grudge forever though and that is why the two will play in 2009. Any Bison fan that thinks NDSU will never again play UND is going to be dissapointed and you are going to be even more dissapointed when you find out it will once again be a yearly event. Taylor said he doesn't want to stop the rivalry after restarting it and playing the game just makes way too much sense for both sides.
-
Not playing UND forever would be a bad business decision, the people of North Dakota will want the game to resume and NDSU is not going to look good by saying no because of something UND did years ago. I really think that NDSU and UND will play again in 2009 and will meet every year after that. Right now it doesn't make sense to stop the rivalry in 08 after just starting it up again and I think it would be better for UND to be at more of an equal level as far as scholarships go.
-
Sioux fans can't you just be patient and wait util 2009? Taylor said its not a matter of if but when and I think the when is 2009 and that wouldn't be a bad time to start it up again. UND will be more established in the FCS and Taylor will be able to say to the people who hate the idea of playing UND that he made UND suffer the same fate of NDSU by not giving them any help in year 1 of the transition(AKA the year of scheduling hell). I also agree with Taylor and I don't really like the idea of starting the rivalry up again and then stopping it right away, NDSU is not going to play UND in 2008 and if we get into the Gateway I don't know if there would be room on the schedule to play UND in 08.

We will send SDSU their check as soon as SUU writes NDSU a 150k check for making us travel to Cedar City for 2 straight years. If you didn't know SDSU is on the same rotation as Cal Poly, 1 home game one year and three the next year so nobody owes anybody anything thats just the way schedules were worked out.
-
It clearly wasn't the top indicator this year and also I-AA.org is calling it that and not the I-AA playoff committee. Who clearly must think otherwise since it picked the #22 ranked GPI team over 4 teams ranked in the top 15. This whole arguement is really pointless by the way, we are pretty much arguing over which team is better #15 or #16 and really they could just as well both be #15 because there is pretty much no difference between the two.
-
In the last GPI Portland St was 10th but wasn't picked to go to the playoffs. UNI, USD and Cal Poly were also in the top 15 and didn't make it while Montana St was 22nd and got picked. As far the playoffs are concerned I don't think the GPI is that important, I think the committee has their own criteria and just uses the GPI as one of many thing in selecting who gets in. Cal Poly's biggest problem was that they didn't have 7 DI wins so they never really got considered and from what I hear UNI didn't get much consideration either. It all came down to PSU vs MSU and since MSU beat PSU they got the last spot.
-
http://www.i-aa.org/article.asp?articleid=80343 Cal Poly is ranked above UNI in every single I-AA poll, I guess you can keep on touting those alway questionable computer rankings but I'll take the word of a real person over them any day. Also if you truely think UND's schedule was on an equal level with NDSU's they aren't even close.
-
NDSU uses the same company for it's online content so I am sure the prices are close to the same...$70 dollars for a year, $40 dollars for six months and $8 dollars for one month.

Hockey Exposure Good or Bad for UND DI Transition
FargoBison replied to BobIwabuchiFan's topic in NCAA News
I don't see Bison fans calling Minnesota a rival, we have only one true rival and that is UND. -
Mary Mayville St SMSU VCSU Fans don't want to see those games(Going DI didn't change that fact), so it's not a suprise at all that attendance is that low. Playing UW-GB and Furman during Thanksgiving break didn't help matters much either but I guess that 6000 number for K-State helps even that effect out. As for next year the schedule is much better, the Mid-Con will give us something to play for and Colorado St will provide another major conference opponent.
-
I doubt state is going anywhere but the EDC tourney will have a great home if this happens.
-
Bohl is dreaming? NDSU football has 8 national titles, really I don't get all the fighting over which is bigger. NDSU fans love football and UND fans love hockey making both pretty much equal.
-
I could see hockey at NDSU if somebody or some group are willing to put up the money to get it started, until that happens NDSU isn't going to add hockey for at least 10 years.
-
NDSU was 26-1 in 2004-2005, beat a few top 10 DII teams and swept SDSU. That team would have had a great shot at adding to their championship totals.
